For the first time since its 1745 premiere, experience Jean-Philippe Rameau’s original version of Le temple de la gloire with its unedited libretto by Voltaire. This will be the first fully-staged opera originated by Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale. Music Director Nicholas McGegan and his historically-informed Orchestra and Chorale will revive this newly-discovered version of Rameau’s sumptuous score and present a full-scale opera with an international cast of singers and dancers, specially-designed lighting, set projections and period-inspired costumes by Marie Anne Chiment.

The season opens with the first-ever co-commissioned piece for PBO and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment (OAE) in London. Scottish composer Sally Beamish has been fascinated with Jesus’s disciple, Judas Iscariot, and tells this story through a passion loosely based on Gnostic texts. The libretto, written by David Harsent, will explore Judas in a more sympathetic light — the ultimate question of perspective, of failing humanity, forgiveness and redemption. The Judas Passion is the perfect complement to Bach’s 6th Brandenburg Concerto. Big vocals and rich instrumentals.

Scottish composer Sally Beamish has been fascinated with Jesus’s disciple, Judas Iscariot, and tells this story through a passion loosely based on Gnostic texts. The libretto, written by David Harsent, will explore Judas in a more sympathetic light — the ultimate question of perspective, of failing humanity, forgiveness and redemption. The Judas Passion is the perfect complement to Bach’s 6th Brandenburg Concerto. Big vocals and rich instrumentals.
