EVENTS
Activities abound throughout the year

In Maryville, there’s never a shortage of reasons to gather, celebrate, or cheer. Sporting events often take center stage. All year long, Spoofhound and Bearcat home games bring waves of green to the streets, flags to the yards, and excitement to the air.
SPRING EVENTS
In March, line up along Market Street in front of Burny’s “Just One More” Bar & Grub to try and get a glimpse of the World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade. You’ll have to squeeze in to make sure you catch it — the parade route is less than 80 feet long!
Maryville Parks & Rec hosts a large craft fair in April at the community center. It’s the perfect opportunity to grab the season’s newest decor and craft projects.
For Easter, hundreds of kids from around the county gather to search for the Easter Bunny’s eggs during the Maryville Host Lions annual Easter Egg Hunt. Legend has it that in the more than 40
years the Easter Bunny has been hiding his eggs at the event, there’s still one that has never been found.
In early May, Saturday morning Farmers Markets are launched with a Spring Into Fun event on the downtown square with dozens of vendors providing products, food, fun, and games for all ages.
SUMMER EVENTS
Nothing signals summertime in Maryville quite like the Nodaway County Fair. Attracting thousands from the surrounding areas to the downtown square for the carnival rides, local and national music acts, and, of course, the fried food. The fair — and the accompanying 4-H/FFA livestock show — is classic smalltown community at its best.
Throughout the summer at Donaldson Westside Park, Maryille Parks and Recreation offers a series of free Concerts in the Park. Hundreds bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs to relax and hear regional/national acts play through to sunset.

FALL EVENTS
The autumn season begins with the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Bearcat Stadium. It’s a chance for the community to remember the sacrifices of first responders on that fateful day and an opportunity for young people to learn how it changed our country forever.
At the end of September, the Fall Into Fun event on the downtown square marks the end of the Farmers Market season. Families can stroll around the square, shopping, snacking, looking at the giant pumpkin contest entries. Some may even enter the pie eating contest!
The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats’ Homecoming Parade adds festive fun for all ages in and around downtown.
But in Maryville, few holidays are bigger than Halloween. Thousands of goblins, princesses, superheroes and superstars come from across the region to the Haunted Campground at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park for one of the most popular

family-friendly events in northwest Missouri. Coupled with the annual Downtown Trick or Treat, Maryville provides no shortage of safe, spooky fun for kids and families.
As the weather gets colder, the fun heads inside with the annual Maryville Parks and Recreation Fall Craft Fair, which brings more than a thousand visitors to the Maryville Community Center each year.
But the cold weather can’t stop some people — and for them, Thanksgiving is also the day of the Downtown Turkey Trot, where those cold turkeys can strut their stuff in a fun run/walk.
WINTER EVENTS
The holiday season truly begins with the annual President’s Tree Lighting ceremony at the historic Thomas Gaunt House on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University.
And speaking of Christmas, Maryville gets all sorts of visitors around that holly jolly time — from Santa Claus to the Grinch! Every Christmas season

starts with the Yuletide Magic Parade downtown led by a Grinch, selected by the community in a charity fundraiser, and Santa stops by the Downtown Pocket Park to get some gift ideas.
If kids miss Santa at the parade, they can always make a breakfast appointment with the jolly old elf when he stops by the Maryville Community Center for Breakfast in Whoville.
But for those craving some different grub, there’s the Yuletide Feaste held at Northwest Missouri State University each December. The Feaste journeys back to merrie olde England with the songs, dances and entertainment magic of the day at an elegant royal banquet with delicacies that graced the tables of the Lords and Ladies of the 16th century.
In December, the Chamber’s Shop “Merry”ville promotion offers consumers picking up their Christmas gifts from local businesses a chance to win prizes.

CULTURE
‘Camaraderie is what it’s all about’
When Northwest Missouri State University head football coach John McMenamin was hired in December of 2024, he spoke about Bearcat DNA and the blueprint for success laid out by College Football Hall of Fame coach Mel Tjeerdsma.
“I got to play for Mel Tjeerdsma, whose blueprint for how he built this program obviously speaks for itself,” McMenamin said at his introductory press conference. “I think that blueprint is very similar.” What followed for Bearcat football was a renewed
enthusiasm to be at Bearcat Stadium on fall Saturdays, a return to the playoffs and an MIAA championship.
“It is an amazing feeling,” McMenamin said after his first win as the Bearcat head coach. “It gives me chills again to get the win with these guys, join the Northwest family and be a part of it.”
Northwest men’s basketball has seen its success in recent years with a national dynasty established by future Hall of Fame coach Ben McCollum. The men’s basketball team made

strides in year two of the Matt Keeley era.
Bearcat baseball has returned to the national spotlight with Director of Athletics Andy Peterson hiring Tony Jandron, who took the Bearcats to the conference championship series in his first year and built on that in his second year.
The track and field and cross country programs have continued to rack up conference championships and national accolades under coach Brandon Masters.

Amy Woerth’s volleyball program, Naomi Tellez’s softball program and Austin Meyer’s women’s basketball program are also highly successful.
The staple is the winningest coach in Bearcat history — tennis coach Mark Rosewell, who won his 1,300th match this season.
“We’ve had just fantastic players for a lot of years, and Coach (John) Byrd — before (me) — started it in the 1970s,” Rosewell said during his Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction. “I haven’t

won a single point, but all the fun that we had — and fun is the big word there — homecoming and alumni matches when they come back, we don’t necessarily talk about the big wins, but the bus rides and the fun and things that happened. To me, the camaraderie is what it is all about.”
HALL OF FAME CULTURE
The 1982 Maryville Spoofhound football team was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2025 and current activities director and football coach Matt Webb summed up what he believes the legacy of Spoofhound culture to be.
“We talk about ‘tradition never graduates,’” Webb said. “... There are a lot of individuals on this team that I know personally, and I’ve coached some of their sons and family members. I know that our current players know what those men mean in our community and the commitment they have to young people. It just goes to show you the

type of people they are.”
One of those who has carried that Spoofhound culture to the next level is Super Bowl champion Jalen Sundell. The 2018 Maryville High School graduate was the starting center for the 2025 Seattle Seahawks championship team.
“It feels good,” Sundell said after the Super Bowl. “It is super surreal. It is something that was beyond my wildest dreams of where I thought football would take me. There are not a lot of words for it.”
In a season where her brother won the Super Bowl, the other half of the Sundell siblings also kept their parents busy. Serena Sundell finished her career as the all-time assists leader at Kansas State University, was a WNBA draft pick and represented the United States on an international level in 3-on-3 basketball.
“That is such an honor to represent your country,” Serena Sundell said. “Any time that you get to have ‘USA’ on the front of your jersey, that is pretty cool.”
Sundell finished her first WNBA season playing for the Dallas Wings then signed professionally in Australia.
The Sundells’ success serves as a reminder for current Spoofhounds, according to Webb:
“You can do anything from right here in Maryville, Missouri.”

RECREATION
Inside or outside, there is fun for everyone
For seasonal visitors and full-time residents alike, Maryville is the recreation capital of northwest Missouri. It all starts with the 3,000-acre Mozingo Lake Recreation Park, located just east of town.
The 1,000-acre lake offers the best sport fishing in the region, the best golf courses in the state, a variety of camping options, expanding and high-quality RV hookups, swimming and more.
Mozingo is the golf capital of Missouri, featuring two state-of-the-art courses. The Watson 9 was designed by golf legend Tom Watson and offers big fun in a compact package perfect for all skill levels.
The Sechrest 18 golf course at Mozingo was recently named the No. 1 course in Missouri by GolfPass, and Golf Digest has called it the “best course to play in the state of Missouri for under $50.” Starting in 2026, Mozingo will host a 54-hole tournament with the American Junior Golf Association.
Indoors, the amenities are just as inviting: a conference and event center welcoming up to 500 people with a stunning, 180-degree view of both golf courses and the lake; the Lake Tavern 75 sports bar and restaurant; and Cobblestone Inn & Suites, a 40-room, business-class hotel adjacent to the event center on the park’s grounds.
In addition to Mozingo, Maryville boasts the most city parks of a town its size in the state, ensuring

that activities from organized sports leagues through Maryville Parks & Recreation to just climbing on a jungle gym aren’t much farther away than just down the street.
At the Maryville Community Center, visitors of all ages take part in wellness classes, work out or just shoot around in the gym.

Named for longtime residents Dick and Kay Thomson who donated the park to the city, The Thomson Splash N Play at 1920 S Munn Ave is a free summertime destination for kids across the region. Smiles are plentiful as kids run through the fountains and splash in the jets.
Thanks to Nodaway County Services, a new ADA accessible playground at Sisson-Eek Park offers exciting apparatuses for all.
The Sunrise Bark Park, new in 2026, is located at 720 E Depot St. With fenced play areas and a dog wash station, this park has quickly become a favorite for pups and their owners.
The Hangar Family Entertainment Center at 1602 S. Main St. offers a place to enjoy a meal and a movie as well as arcade games to beat the heat.
On the campus of Northwest Missouri State University sits Missouri’s largest freestanding structure north of Kansas City: the Carl & Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse. The 137,000-square-foot sports and events complex is the product of one of the largest public-private partnerships in the region’s history, a $21 million effort shared among the city of Maryville, Northwest and private donors.
Inside, the Fieldhouse features a 90-yard practice turf, a 300-meter indoor competition track, batting cages, tennis courts, state-of-the-art athlete facilities and spectator seating for sporting events. It’s also tailor-made for conventions and other activities, outfitted with three theater-style classrooms with full A/V hookups, WiFi and an indoor flooring system that allows for seamless conversion.
Throughout the year, the Fieldhouse plays host to practices and games for a number of sports for both Northwest teams and teams from the Maryville R-II School District, along with events like regional tournaments, sports camps and conventions.

All of Maryville’s a stage ... ARTS
Many of Maryville’s youth performances of plays and musicals take place on the stage at the Lee and Nina Schneider Center for the Performing Arts at Maryville High School.
The state-of-the-art, 700-seat facility was funded by a $10.25 million taxpayer-approved bond and a $558,000 donation from Lee and Nina Schneider, who spent their lives in music education.
Each year of the more than 40 years they taught music in Maryville, they set aside a little money for what would become “the PAC,” built in 2016.
Performing at the PAC might be any of the high school’s award-winning bands, choirs or theater classes. Each year, show choirs from throughout the region and beyond strut their stuff on the PAC stage at the Spoofhound Spectacular competition, highlighted by MHS’ own Spectrum and Illumination show choirs, and the middle school’s Encore show choir.

The community utilizes the PAC in a variety of ways. It’s home to multiple summer theater camps, community productions and concerts.
The Nodaway Chorale celebrated its 20th year in 2026 as a welcoming, secular, mixed-voice choir made up of community members from across the county. The choir traditionally performs a spring concert and a holiday concert. The Nodaway County Band includes members from all walks of life who provide the soundtrack to the Nodaway County Fair each summer.
At Northwest Missouri State University, the Mary Linn Auditorium in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts is a 1,027seat theater that can accommodate a full symphony orchestra and Broadway-style stage productions.
In the same facility is the 5,500-square-foot Studio Theater. The 549-seat Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building adds even more performance space, while housing the Olive DeLuce Art Gallery.
The Gallery features student art among others, many of which are created on site.

EDUCATION
Teaching the leaders of tomorrow
The beating heart of the Maryville community is its schools, and its lifeblood is education.
Approximately 1,300 students pass through the halls of the Maryville R-II School District every school day. A low teacher-tostudent ratio of 1:11 ensures each student has the individualized attention needed to be successful.
In addition to instructional staff, each school within the district has licensed counselors and nurses to promote emotional and physical well-being and growth.
EARLY AND ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
Educational opportunities in Maryville start early, with childcare services at Northwest Missouri State University’s Phyllis & Richard Leet Center for Children and Families starting at 1 year old all the way through preschool.
The Maryville Early Childhood Center, part of the Maryville R-II School District, also provides preschool education for children from age 3 through kindergarten and a Parents as Teachers program, a voluntary early childhood parent education and family support program designed to help parents give their children the best possible start in life. Maryville taxpayers approved a bond issue that renovated and upgraded the MECC and the attached elementary school, Eugene Field Elementary, providing students with access to a facility built for modern education and safety.
In addition to Eugene Field, elementary students in Maryville can attend the Horace Mann Laboratory School on Northwest’s campus. The Lab School pairs innovative teaching practices for students with a living classroom for those studying to become tomorrow’s teachers at the university.
And Maryville youth also have the opportunity to go to St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic School, which serves students in preschool through eighth grade. St. Gregory offers comprehensive academic and technology education complemented by faith.
MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
Maryville Middle School is a Leader in Me Lighthouse School focusing on educating students in the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens,” as written by Franklin Covey. This certification showcases the school’s dedication to creating a leadership culture. Throughout their learning journey, students in Maryville have access to the latest learning tools, hands-on environments and are exposed to new ideas and pursuits in exciting ways outside the classroom. Maryville students excel in extracurricular activities through the Marching Spoofhound Band, theater, the Spectrum show choir, a speech and debate team, FFA and many more organizations that frequently earn state recognition for excellence.
Northwest Technical School, part of the Maryville R-II School District, serves students from Maryville and the surrounding areas. At NTS, high school students take part in practical, hands-on vocational courses in agriculture, auto and collision repair, building trades, business technology, culinary arts and welding. NTS also offers an array of adult education programs ranging from subject areas like computers to dance and music to business. The building trades class at NTS has helped build several structures across the community, including houses for Habitat for Humanity, the Mozingo Visitors Center.
NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
Northwest Missouri State University, home of the Bearcats, is a four-year, regional state university that is one of the fastestgrowing hubs for career-focused higher education in Missouri. Drawing heavily from Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska in addition to Missouri, enrollment has grown to 8,747 students in fall 2025.
Bolstering enrollment is the largest agriculture business program in the state, home to the newly built Agricultural Learning Center at the university’s R.T. Wright Farm, which offers state-of-the-art facilities for students to take part in unique practical learning experiences.

BUSINESS
Paving the way for the future of business
Maryville is a town building for the future. The city’s main business thoroughfare, South Main Street, will see a yearslong renovation project completed in 2026, rejuvenating the South Main Street corridor for drivers, pedestrians and shoppers.
Maryville is also the home of the entrepreneur, supporting new businesses big and small.
Several new businesses have taken advantage of the revitalized roadway and pedestrian amenities and existing businesses have

undergone a facelift.
Elsewhere, the city helped MTE Office Center celebrate its 90th year serving customers in 2025, while Rush Printing celebrated its 75th year in 2024. In 2026, the Bearcat Boogie Dance Studio celebrates 25 years as a premier destination for girls dance.
Downtown, visitors will also see a whole new look in 2026. A new pedestrian alleyway project between Bank Midwest and The Pub will feature accessible pedestrian

walkways, moveable bench seating, suspended lighting, vine trellis walls and turf berms, along with readymade photo ops.
The murals will feature northwest Missouri artists like Maryville native Jaclyn Anderson, who painted the mural on the south wall of Maryville Glass and Lock; Ashton Markt, of Oregon, Missouri, who painted the mural on the north wall of Bank Midwest along with multiple others across town; and Evan Brown, a Kansas City-based artist who
painted the mural on the south wall of The Pub.
The pedestrian corridor leads the way to a new pavilion in downtown Maryville that will serve as the center of downtown events starting in summer 2026.
The 50-by-80-foot open-air pavilion is part of a new pedestrianfriendly courtyard area downtown next to City Hall and the Maryville Public Library where events like the Downtown Farmers Market will keep downtown buzzing.

INDUSTRY
Creating careers, crafting community
At the heart of Maryville’s economy beats the steady thrum of industry.
Chances are, if you’ve mowed your lawn with a lawn mower that uses a Kawasaki engine, it was made in Maryville.
The city’s largest employer is Kawasaki Motors Mfg. Corp., U.S.A, whose Maryville plant opened in 1989. Since then, the plant has grown to become the global company’s largest producer of small industrial gasoline engines, and employs more than 1,100 people in its sprawling, 900,000-square-foot facility on the south side of Maryville.
In addition to Kawasaki, the Maryville area is home to several other manufacturing and packaging companies, including Bolder Industries, Federal Mogul/DRiV, J.L. Houston, Laclede Chain Co., Maryville Metal Culverts, Midwest Warehouse, Nucor LMP, Predictive Maintenance Technologies and

Robbins Lightning Inc.
Northwest Missouri State
University maintains a full-time employment base of around 700, while Mosaic Medical CenterMaryville employs approximately 500 people. At least a half-dozen other employers, including Walmart and Hy-Vee, maintain payrolls of between 200 and 300 employees.
ENERGY
The Maryville area is quickly
becoming Missouri’s headquarters for modern energy solutions, starting with turning one of the region’s natural features into a strength that’s obvious from miles away on your way into town: wind power.
Nodaway County is home to two major wind farms: the 236-megawatt Enel Green White Cloud Wind Project in the southwest part of the county and the 242-megawatt Tenaska Clear Creek Energy Center north of Maryville. Together, the projects provide hundreds of megawatts of

renewable energy to the Midwest electrical grid thanks to the winds on the hills of Nodaway County.
And in 2025, electricity provider Evergy announced that it plans to construct a 440-megawatt natural gas power plant south of Maryville that is slated to be in operation by 2030.

HEALTH
Treating the whole person for a whole life
MOSAIC MEDICAL CENTERMARYVILLE
Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville serves as a regional hub for healthcare, providing access to a variety of health needs from emergency care to family doctors and specialty care.
Dozens of physicians and other health care professionals lead a staff of about 500 employees in offering a wide range of wellness, diagnostic and treatment services in a facility that contains more than 80 licensed acute-care beds installed primarily in single-occupancy rooms.
The hospital and adjoining or nearby clinics house more than 30 practicing medical providers specializing in everything from oncology to cardiac rehabilitation to sports medicine.
In addition to winning numerous awards and accolades for quality care, the hospital, along with the entire Mosaic Life Care System, is

a member of the prestigious Mayo Clinic Care Network.
In a difficult time for rural health providers, Mosaic remains committed to women’s health care, providing full maternity care and opening a newly renovated women’s health clinic in 2026 to ensure women across the region have access to private, high-quality
healthcare. In collaboration with Haven Modern Mercantile and Coffee Bar, the hospital hosts a “For the Girls” breast cancer awareness event each year that helps women schedule regular mammograms.
THE SOURCE MEDICAL CLINIC
The Source Medical Clinic believes everyone deserves access
to compassionate, confidential and high-quality sexual healthcare — regardless of age, income, insurance or background.
Their services, including OB ultrasound, pregnancy testing, Abortion/Abortion Pill information, STI/STD teasting and treatment, HIV testing and prevention education and birth control consultation, are 100% free, judgment-free, and designed to empower a person to make informed choices about their health and future.
NODAWAY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Nodaway County Health Department provides a number of services including blood pressure checks, health screenings and immunizations.
The center puts an emphasis on health education, with resources and outreach services available for diabetes health and nutrition.
And in 2026, the health department expanded its services to include free diapers for qualifying families in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
The department also offers bicycle helmets, training for proper use of car seats and other educational opportunities for children and families.
NORTHWEST MISSOURI
COOPERATIVE MENTAL HEALTH BOARD
Members of four northwest Missouri counties have joined together to form a cooperative effort to tackle the ongoing need for more mental health services in the region, the first board of its kind in rural Missouri.
The board helps to coordinate services across the region and, in partnership with Mosaic, was instrumental in ensuring every school district in the four-county area has access to confidential telehealth services for students in need.
SENIOR LIVING
Seniors will find all sorts of opportunities for activities and community involvement in Maryville, starting with the Nodaway County Senior Center.
Walk into the senior center on any given day and you’ll find friendly faces playing cards and stopping in for lunch.
For seniors on the move, the Maryville Community Center offers a range of fitness and wellness classes tailored to seniors or just a quiet track to walk around early in the morning.
Seniors also have access to several elder care facilities and assisted living homes in and around Maryville.
