ON THE STREET

Chuck Haney’s On the Street for May 3

Hedrick Medical Center Foundation’s second annual Gala event, held last Thursday evening at the Chillicothe Country Club, was a huge success. A full house was on hand to help support two major endeavors — The Oncology Nurse Navigator program

that guides patients from an 11-county area through the maze of cancer treatment — and The Gardens at HMC, a three-acre healing and botanical garden on the grounds of the hospital. Lindy Chapman, who is the director for the Foundation, said that all funds had

not be counted at the time of my contact the day after the event, but overall the night was huge success. The live auction of six items ranging from a Gourmet prepared meal by the talented HMC Chef Julie Bloomingdale for a party of six; a Family Memory Making event; to

a Magical Christmas; Fixer/ Upper Inspiration; to Fresh Flowers for a Year; to hosting an event in the official 2018 event and open house of The Gardens brought in $3,300. There were 17 sponsor tables sold for $320 as well as special VIP tables for $600; and a silent auction. Highlight of the evening was a very inspiring and emotional address by featured speaker Bryan Anderson. He is currently a spokesman for Quantam Rehab and USA Cares and is an Ambassador for the Gary Sinise Foundation. Anderson was injured while serving in Iraq and is one of a few triple amputees to have survived injuries in that country. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Representative Rusty Black will be the main speaker and representatives of the Ministerial Alliance as well as others will give brief remarks. Many area churches will be participating in the program at this special service. Last week MC Power companies, Gardner Capital, and the Missouri Public Utility Alliance, in cooperation with Chillicothe Municipal Utilities, City of Chillicothe, and Livingston County held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Chillicothe Solar Energy Farm located on 23 acres at the end of East Third in Chillicothe. The Cultural Corner, located at 402 Locust has announced the Annual K-8 Art Show that will be held at the new Cultural Corner this year rather than the Performing Arts Center. Artwork displayed is done by all students of Erin Pohren, Will Ford, and Susa Keller. The event takes place May 9-14 (Tuesday through Friday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a special opening on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Farmers Market is ready for the 2016 season and its 31st year of opSee CHUCK Page 5
