Maryville High School students Gage Grispino, left, and Lukas Erickson will take part in the Missouri Scholar’s Academy this June. MHS administrators said it is rare for two students to be selected for the academy from the same school in a smaller district.

Two Maryville High School sophomores will travel to the University of Missouri-Columbia this summer to participate in a camp for the best and brightest students in the state. The Missouri Scholars Academy brings together 330 gifted students as they prepare to begin their junior year in high school. The camp will take place June 8-June 28.

I emailed the coordinators of the Missouri Scholars Academy and asked them if I could nominate two and what the chances of both of them going would be.” The coordinators told her she could nominate multiple students, but that they wouldn’t make any guarantees with regard to acceptance. “So they both applied,” James said. “We rolled the dice, and they both got in. It’s pretty exciting.” See MHS, Page 6
