Glidden said he didn’t know if the briefcase contained all of the stolen money, which totaled about $10,000. But the stash appeared to include a significant amount of currency in $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5 bills. Still to be recovered, Glidden said, is the gun, or guns, used in the holdup. On the day of the robbery, White said last week, at least one of two suspects who entered the bank displayed a handgun. A third man reportedly remained in the trio’s vehicle, a burnt-orange Ford Explorer, and served as the getaway driver. In other developments related to the holdup, Glidden said that video captured by security cameras inside the bank is being studied, and that local authorities are continuing their investigation in
conjunction with the FBI, since bank robbery is a federal offense. The filing of federal charges against the three men is “the ultimate goal,” Glidden said. Though bond has been set, all three suspects remain in custody, Glidden said. However, he would not confirm if they are still being held in the Nodaway County jail. The robbery occurred about 11:15 a.m. Friday at the Citizen’s Bank & Trust in Burlington Junction after two of the three suspects reportedly entered the building through a back door and demanded money at gunpoint. Escaping in their Ford, the men were followed by a private citizen who moments before had called White on a cell phone and told the sheriff that the men looked suspicious. Officers from various state and county agencies soon joined the chase, including personnel from Maryville Public Safety, the Mis-
souri and Iowa state patrols and deputies from Page and Taylor counties in Iowa. In addition to a small fleet of patrol cars, two airplanes were dispatched to pursue the robbers from above. According to White, the winding pursuit proceeded north on Dynasty, a gravel road, and ultimately northbound again on Route FF to the Iowa line, where the blacktop changes to gravel. Once in Iowa, the suspects abandoned the Ford and backtracked on foot into a wooded area on the Missouri side of the border. The holdup was the second bank robbery in Nodaway County in less than six months. On Nov. 13 a suspect made away with less that $2,000 from the Bank Midwest branch at the corner of South Main and South Avenue in Maryville. Earlier this month David Brown Jr., 39, Kansas City, was arrested in connection with that crime. He was to be indicted on charges related to the Maryville holdup as well as similar offenses in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Dec. 20 and Manhattan, Kan., on Nov. 27.

One hurt in two-car collision
KEVIN BIRDSELL/DAILY FORUM
A two-car accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Market and East First streets in Maryville. A silver Chevrolet Impala containing the driver and a passenger was traveling north on Market and stopped for a stop sign at the intersection. Continuing northbound, the Impala struck a brown Chevrolet Suburban containing only the driver that was traveling east on First Street. Following the impact, the Suburban spun around and came to a stop facing west. The passenger in the Impala reportedly suffered injuries and was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital & Health Services. The names of the drivers and passenger were not immediately available.

The weather may not feel like it yet, but it’s spring cleaning time, and these days that means recycling all the paint, cleaners, solvents and fluids that have piled up in the garage over the winter, not to mention the new-style compact fluorescent light bulbs and dead batteries collecting dust in catch-all drawers and cabinets. And then there are those old snow tires. Getting rid of such household waste safely and legally can be a real hassle in an environmentally conscious age, which is why the Northwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District is hosting a household hazardous waste disposal and tire collection event from 8 a.m. until noon this Saturday at the Nodaway County maintenance garage, located at 1516 E. Halsey St. in Maryville. Unlike past years, the 2014 collection will accept both household waste and scrap tires. According to Linda Laderoute, environmental planner for the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments, state funding is no longer available for tire recycling. Fortunately, she said, Nucor-LMP has stepped into the breach and is providing both the trucks and personnel needed to load up the tires and haul them to EnTire Recycling in Rock Port.
