Chamber

plans for

The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to all the possibilities 2016 brings, that will make it our best year yet! To accomplish that goal, we will need the help of all our members! Here are some of the areas that we plan to focus on in the coming year.

Finding that Unique “Niche” The Chamber has long been a promoter of tourism in Maryville and Nodaway County. We’ve received grants that helped us publish brochures of our area, created booklets of information, and coordinated many events to entice the interest of many around the United States. However, looking at other communities comparable in size, have a much stronger tourism impact than we currently do. Most of these communities find a unique and quirky niche they play off of and the whole community embraces it. Tourism is becoming more and more detrimental to communities our size to help them survive. The economic impact that could be brought into our business community is limitless. So as a goal this year, the Chamber hopes to pull business and community leaders who are passionate about finding out what Maryville and Nodaway County’s niche should be and how we can utilize it in the most positive and economic light.

Empower our Members

In this past year, we’ve had many businesses renovate, expand, build from the ground up and decide to choose Maryville as their home. I hope that this trend continues to move forward and we will continue to help in any way we can, but what the Chamber wants to ensure, is that the businesses we already have in town are not forgotten. With new trends and technology appearing by the minute, it is our job as a Chamber to ensure that we help our members stay up to date and current. This past month, we have done a survey to our members and one of the top initiatives they would like us to pursue is a mentorship program. Take the areas that pertain to each individual business and focus on their needs, wants, and difficult areas that they need a little extra help in and find a mentor to help guide them through and empower them. Another aspect of empowerment we are hoping to accomplish is to create a central area to which business and community leaders can go to gather information about different volunteer opportunities. This community is full of leaders who want to help, but are not able to get the information needed in order to do so. As the Chamber and a representative of many Nonprofits and organizations who are constantly looking for volunteers, it is our duty to be able to provide that information. If you have interest in helping the Chamber on these objectives or have suggestions for us, please do not hesitate to contact us at 660-582-8643 or email us at director@maryvillechamber.com.

JUNE – Over a hundred runners participated in the 13th

and last, Annual Maryville Chamber Country Classic Marathon. The success of this event was due to the many businesses and organizations that volunteered over the years. Near the end of June was our second event for Downtown Event Series, teaming up with local radio station 95.9 PickUp Country and coordinated the preliminaries of Country Showdown. It also featured Trenton singer, Jeremiah Hamilton and a beer garden by Burny’s Sports Bar. Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce closes on the purchase of their new building. JULY – The Chamber Ambassadors host the Nodaway County Fair Parade. The theme was “Let the FUN Shine In.” This was the first parade to take advantage of Maryville’s new 4th Street Corridor. AUGUST – The Chamber produced materials to promote Maryville’s participation in the “Back to School Sales Tax Holiday” to surrounding communities. The third Downtown Event Series, featured a Community Pep Rally featuring the Marching Spoofhounds Band, the Dazzlers, & Cheerleaders with Spoofy. We also got to meet and wish all our Fall Sports teams good luck showing our Maryville Spoofhound Pride! OCTOBER – Chamber, Nodaway County Economic Development and Maryville License Bureau moves into their newly purchased and renovated building. During Customer Service Week, the chamber honored Fred Mares-Hy-Vee; Shelly Combs- Tri-State Ford; Jim Cronin and Staff- 97.1 The Vill; Michael Spiking, United Fiber; and Tom Wilmes- Wilmes Tire. If you experience great customer service, please tell us at chamber@maryvillechamber. com! Trying something new this year, the Chamber asked Non-Profits to nominate a Grinch Marshall of their organization that would tie into our Christmas Shop Local Campaign. Nominee finalists were: Jim Blackford-The Bridge Maryville, Ben Lipiec- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nodaway County, Jonathan Mitchell- Nodaway County Ministry Center, Rod Auxier- Girl Scouts Service Unit 805, and

Larry Cady-Nodaway County Senior Center. NOVEMBER – The Chamber hosted the 55th FarmCity Banquet held at Northwest Missouri State University, where we had the pleasure of guest speaker Andrew McCrea, “American Countryside” Radio Personality and Author. Many awards were given to leaders of the farming community in Nodaway County that night.. The Chamber sponsored a Legislative Coffee at the CIE Building on Campus. Missouri Senator Dan Hegeman and Representative Allen Andrews discussed challenges facing state policy makers in the coming legislative session. The Community got to vote for whomever they wished to become the Chamber’s Christmas Parade Grinch Marshall by putting $1 in a box at multiple businesses across town. The voting process collected over $750 to the Grinch Marshall organization. The winning Grinch was Jim Blackford with The Bridge Maryville. DECEMBER – The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Girl Scouts Service Unit 805 and coordinated a Christmas Parade that leads to Franklin Park where Santa arrives. This event was a huge success with over 35 businesses and organizations participating and hundreds of spectators lined Main Street for several blocks.

Thank You! Thank you to all of our volunteers who dedicate their time to be a part of our event committees, making them possible and helping the Chamber achieve their goal to enhance the community as a desirable place to live, work, and play. Without you, none of it would be possible.
