Chamber plans for 2015
plan to focus on in the coming year.
The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to all the possibilities 2015 brings, that will make it our best year yet! To accomplish that goal, we will need the help of all our members! Here are some of the areas that we
BECOMING THE “GO TO” RESOURCE CHANNEL e Chamber has long served as a resource referring members to not only Th the community, but other members as well, providing expertise and assistance in all areas of business improvement and development. We can help put you in touch with many businesses and service providers that can assist your already existing or start-up business, making it a success. Something new in 2015 that we have the pleasure of providing this year, thanks to the Small Business Administration Portable Assistance Program, and help of partnering agencies such as: Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments, Nodaway County Economic Development, MU Extension, Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation, and SBTDC; the Chamber will be providing Roundtable Luncheons with a specific focus or theme for the business community in Maryville & Nodaway County. These
focuses could include human resources, marketing methods, developing partnerships and customer service. IMPROVE & ENVISION ver the past few years, the Chamber has really expanded what we do O to focus extensively on special events and activities that make Maryville a better place to live, work and play. We do this because we want Maryville to have a variety of activities that would be of interest to everyone who calls Maryville home. Not only is the community in need of events that appeal to families, retirees, and young professionals; it is also in need of events that bring in visitors because they will help boost the community’s economy while they’re here. The Chamber currently offers a variety of events from the Downtown Concert & Event Series to the Chamber Country Classic Marathon to the Home & Better Living Show. This year we are reviewing all events, to see if we can improve in certain areas, making them more appealing to all and boosting attendance. Not only are we focusing on already existing events, but we are also envisioning the future. Maryville and Nodaway County has captured all our hearts in some way, we just need to discover what unique niche Maryville/Nodaway County has that would be appealing to outsiders. If you have interest in helping the Chamber on these objectives or have suggestions for us, please do not hesitate to contact us at 660-582-8643 or email us at director@maryvillechamber.com. FEBRUARY Great Northwest Day at the Capitol was a rousing success! More than 30 business and community leaders joined hundreds of participants from the 18-county area in Jefferson City. The event puts issues impacting our community in front of legislators and administration officials and is coordinated locally by your Chamber and Nodaway County Economic Development. The 28th Class of Leadership Maryville, an educational program sponsored by the Chamber, graduated at a ceremony at A&G Restaurant Bar and Grill. MARCH The annual Northwest Missouri Home & Better Living Show, conceived by area business owners drew over 50 vendors, and more than 600 attendees. APRIL Maryville and Nodaway County once again supported the Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday with a local and regional advertising campaign. MAY The Legislative Affairs Committee hosts the first of two Legislative Coffees featuring speakers Missouri Senator Brad Lager and Representative Mike Thomson at the Maryville Community Center.

Also, the first of three Downtown Sounds Event & Concert Series featured Illusionist & Comedian BJ Talley. JUNE Hundreds of runners participated in the 12th Annual Maryville Chamber Country Classic Marathon. The success of this event is due in part to the many businesses and organizations that volunteered to decorate and run water stations. Near the end of June was our second event for Downtown Sounds Event & Concert Series that featured Jerry Maccoux and The Kroux, 50’s & 60’s Doo Wap, Blues and Jazz trio. JULY The Chamber Ambassadors host the Nodaway County Fair Parade. The theme was “Fairadise by the Carnival Lights.” Due to construction, the parade took a new route, but with all the help from our ambassadors, public safety, & volunteers; it went very well. AUGUST The Chamber produced materials to promote Maryville’s participation in the “Back to School Sales Tax Holiday” to surrounding communities. The third Downtown Sounds Summer Event & Concert Series, featured a Community Pep Rally featuring the Marching Spoofhounds Band, the Dazzlers, & Cheerleaders with Spoofy. We also got to meet and wish all our Fall Sports teams good luck showing our Maryville Spoofhound Pride! OCTOBER During Customer Service Week, the Chamber honored Chad Pedersen - Championship Motors; Carol Owens - Wal-Mart; Brooke Spaulding - St. Francis
Hospital; Tina Schulte, Phil Poynter, & Staff - Gentle Dental; and Meghan Hersh - NW Cell. NOVEMBER The Chamber hosted the 54th Farm-City Banquet. Held at Northwest Missouri State University, where we had the pleasure of guest speaker Richard Fordyce, MO Department of Agriculture Director. Many awards were given to leaders of the farming community in Nodaway County that night, as well as an induction for Eugene Frueh into the Nodaway County Agriculture Hall of Fame. The Chamber sponsored a Legislative Coffee at the Maryville Community Center. Missouri Senator Dan Hageman and Representative Allen Andrews discussed challenges facing state policy makers in the coming legislative session. DECEMBER The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce partnered with the City of Maryville and Nodaway County Economic Development to organize an aggressive “Shop Local Campaign” for the holiday season.
Thank You! Thank you to all of our volunteers who dedicate their time to be a part of our event committees, making them possible and helping the Chamber achieve their goal to enhance the community as a desirable place to live, work, and play. Without you, none of it would be possible.
