As a health and human services professor at Northwest Missouri State University, Jeff knows what the symptoms mean: heart attack. He quickly takes aspirin, but swallows the tablets instead of chewing them, delaying their effect. Soon Jeff is sweating like crazy, and the pain in his chest is excruciating. His son Clay rushes him to St. Francis Hospital & Health Services, just three minutes away, where the ER team immediately takes action. “As it turned out, one of my coronary arteries was 99.9% blocked,” Jeff says. “The only reason I’m alive today is because the ER team at St. Francis acted so quickly and decisively. They really knew what they were doing.” Following his heart attack, Jeff started cardiac rehab at St. Francis Hospital & Health Services. “Janet Murphy (front row, right, Cardiac Rehab Nurse) and her team were terrific,” Jeff says. “The information they provided was very comprehensive. By following their diet and exercise program, for example, I lost 30 pounds and now weigh 165. I haven’t been this slim since I ran track in college. I owe so much to the people at St. Francis. They saved my life!”
