Christmas Eve tragedy
The Grant City home of Bob and Treasa Staton was destroyed by fire Christmas Eve. A local church is accepting donations on behalf of the couple and their three young children. Bob Staton had heart surgery last month and has been unable to work.
GRANT CITY, Mo. — An area family of five lost virtually all of their possessions on Christmas Eve when their Grant City residence was destroyed by fire. Bob and Treasa Staton, along with their children Macie, 12; Robby, 8; and Kara 7, were at home on Dec. 24 when they smelled smoke. Almost immediately, the structure was engulfed by heavy smoke, though the family managed to escape into the bitter winter cold without injury. The fire spread quickly through the small, wood-frame house, which burned to the ground. Officials aren’t yet sure what caused the fire but are continuing their investigation. The Statons are members of the Grant City Christian Church, and their loss has resulted in an outpouring of support from members of the congregation and other local residents. “The community has really stepped up,” said the Rev. The steep slope rolling down onto the St. Gregory School playground has been a popular local sledding spot for years.
