The Multi-Purpose Center has been given the opportunity to remain at its current location. They have purchased the present facility. This building is set up to compliment the missions and programs currently offered at the Center. There already has been nearly $100,000 toward the goal of paying off the loan on the building and making the needed improvements. The additional $300,000 will provide the balance

needed to complete projects such as retiring the note on the building at the current location. The funds will also provide interior/exterior improvements and provide a maintenance reserve. As many will recall the Grand River Multi-Purpose Center was originally called the Senior Center and was located downtown on Locust Street in the old Montgomery Ward building next to the Library. It has been in existence since 1974. How important is the Multi-Purpose Center to Chillicothe and Livingston County? Check out the following statistics: During fis-

cal year 2015-16 it provided 40,762 meals with a daily average of 163 meals. It served 22,207 persons at the center; and served 18,555 home delivered meals. That included a 21 percent increase for home delivered meals from the previous year. And, here’s another important point: Over the past five years the home delivered meals (done by volunteers) have increased 54 percent. The Center is more than just providing nutritious

meals. They also offer many other programs and services such as the following: Nutrition programs and education; exercise classes; health services; information and assistance; financial literacy; social events and programs and wellness checks. To hear the stories of those who work there and of those who serve as volunteers really touches one as to why we need this senior center and what it does for our community. I hope you will take the

time to learn more about the fundraising campaign and will become a contributor to it, regardless of your monetary donation. Please contact Director Cindy Ireland or any board member or call 660-6461555 and stop by for a meal or a tour and you’ll know the importance of this center and its programs. TIME FOR TAXES Get a head-start on tax season The dawn of a new calendar year often marks the end of the sometimes hectic holiday season. This time of year marks a return to normalcy for many families, as the kids go back to school and parents return to work. January also serves as a great time to start preparing for tax season. While the deadline to file returns may be a few months away, getting a head-start allows people the chance to organize their tax documents so they aren’t racing against a deadline come April. The following are a handful of ways to start preparing for your returns now. • Find last year’s return. You will need information from last year’s return in order to file this year, so find last year’s return and print it out if you plan to hire a professional to work on your return. • Gather dependents’ information. While you might know your own Social Security number by heart, if you have dependents, you’re going to need their information as well. New parents or adults who started serving as their elderly parents’ primary caretakers over the past year will need their kids’ and their parents’ social security numbers. If you do not have these numbers upon filing, your return will likely be delayed and you might even be denied potentially substantial tax credits.

ACCOUNTING & Tax All year service for Farmers, Small Businesses and Individuals Computerized Tax Preparers

Now is the time to start preparing for your taxes. • Gather your year-end financial statements. If you spent the last year investing, then you will have to pay taxes on any interest earned. Interest earned on the majority of savings accounts is also taxable, so gather all of your year-end financial statements from your assorted accounts in one place. Doing so will make filing your return, whether you do it yourself or work with a professional, go more quickly. • Speak with your mortgage lender. Homeowners should receive forms documenting their mortgage interest payments for the last year, as the money paid in interest on your home or homes is tax deductible. If

these forms are not received in a timely manner, speak with your lender. You might even be able to download them from your lender’s secure website. • Make a list of your charitable contributions. Charitable contributions, no matter how small, are tax deductible. While it’s easiest to maintain a list of all charitable donations you make as the year goes on, if you have not done that, then you can make one now. Look for receipts of all contributions, contacting any charities you donated to if you misplaced any receipts. • Book an appointment

with your tax preparation specialist now. As April 15 draws closer, tax preparers’ schedules get busier and busier. The earlier you book your appointment, the more likely you are to get a favorable time for that meeting. In addition, if you have gathered all of the information you need by early February, then booking your appointment early means you can file earlier and receive any return you might be eligible for that much quicker. Tax season is right around the corner, and it’s never too early to start preparing your return.

Chuck Haney’s On the Street — Continued from Page 3 Continued from Page 3 tor the Mayor to promote the 2017 Fly-In and DriveIn at the Chillicothe Municipal Airport that will be held in August. They were testing the water to see about adding to and making some changes for the day-long event. Mrs. Hamilton said the plan was to add more booths, programs and events to the Fly-In making it a full family event for the children and the adults. They were looking at additional concessions, including food. There already is the pancake and sausage breakfast and a catered lunch by Wabash BBQ. They also have had the National Guard, police and

fire departments, ambulance service, and Life Flight, but want to add something more for the youngsters such as farm animals and perhaps a petting zoo. They also would like to bring in antique vehicles, race or drag cars and the list goes on. Give Cathie a call at 660646-8850 if you have any ideas. I am sure they would be welcomed. In regard to EAA Chapter 944 in Chillicothe, it was also announced by the EAA Aviation Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin that Drew Minnis of Chillicothe, Jackson Pauley of Chula, and Wesley Sportsman of Marceline have been selected and sponsored by EAA Chapter 944 to attend the 2017 Advanced

The EAA Air Academy offers young people the opportunity to meet and work with aviation professionals while living and learning the arts, sciences and lore of aviation both in the classroom and workshop settings. They join many other young people, ages 16-18 in this aviation program. Several days of the Academy take place during the world’s largest and most exciting aviation event — the EAA AirVenture 2017. Participants in the EAA Air Academy come from across the United States and several countries. The local EAA Chapter 944 has sponsored 16 individuals since 2012 to

Sophisticuts Beauty Salon on Washington Street, across from City Hall in Chillicothe, becomes the second beauty salon to change locations in the past two months. Lindsey Creekmore, who purchased the business in November, said she is moving to a building in the Hutchinson & Co., complex at 1129 Washington Street

and will be open for business in the new location on Jan. 31. Sophisticuts has been located in the 700 block of Washington in the same building occupied by KULH (The Wave) radio station for the past five years. Creekmore said there are currently six employees, five stylists and one who does nails. She will be adding another stylist soon. Chatting With Chuck is heard each Thursday at 8 a.m. on KULH (The Wave 105.9 FM). Grand River Entertainment and the Chillicothe Mudcats wood bat collegiate baseball team officially began its 16th season at its annual “First Pitch Party” held Friday, Jan. 20 at the Celebrations Event Hall at the south end of the Fast Lanes Entertainment Center. New Head Coach Jack Winter was present to greet board members and fans. I have already told you more than I know.
