From the Club President
John Spagnola
Several weeks ago, while match play was still underway at the U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament, I wrote to the membership to express my gratitude for the outstanding work our management, golf, maintenance, and volunteer teams did in presenting Philadelphia Country Club to the golf world during the two qualifying days. Afterward, I had the opportunity to attend the closing ceremonies at Merion Golf Club and hear remarks from USGA President Kevin Hammer and the two finalists, Jay Leng, Jr. and Jack Whaley. Allow me one final victory lap on behalf of our Club: all three spoke of the playing conditions and challenges at Philadelphia Country Club and Merion Golf Club with equal respect and admiration. Based on feedback from players and their families, our hospitality and amenities were second to none. The goodwill generated by hosting this event elevated our Club’s profile and sparked interest among prospective members. After reviewing the final numbers from this year’s qualifier, the Board of Directors will consider whether to host a future USGA event. I hope we agree to do so. As many of you return home after time away this summer, I hope you have a chance to visit the Mill. We have now enjoyed nearly two months of operation, and the feedback has been very positive. Our management team has worked diligently to staff the Mill and accommodate everyone who wants to use it. We are off to a great start! As we head into the fall season, the Board and various committees will move into action: The Finance Committee will review our fiscal year-end finances and prepare next year’s budget. The Strategic Planning Committee will begin meetings focused on: Programming Facilities and campus Management and staff engagement Bylaws and governance Membership Finally, an ad hoc Padel Committee will review options and recommend a permanent solution for padel. As we complete the final two months of the 2026 fiscal year, which ends October 31, PCC remains on sound financial footing. We are meeting our benchmarks and sharpening our plans for the year ahead. Please come use the Club—we love seeing members fully engaged! Warm regards,
John Spagnola Club President

Hosting the U.S. Amateur at Philadelphia Country Club was an extraordinary moment in our Club’s history and a week that I know many of us will remember for years to come. First played in 1895, the U.S. Amateur is the oldest championship conducted by the USGA. It is also one of the organization’s most ambitious undertakings, beginning with a field of 312 players and requiring competition and operations across multiple clubs before the field is reduced for match play. The scale of the championship, and the coordination required to successfully execute it, made the opportunity to host particularly meaningful. While the golf showcased some of the finest amateur players in the world, what stood out most to me was how our Club community came together. Years of planning culminated in a single week, and our members, staff, volunteers, fellow host club, and partners embraced the responsibility of welcoming the amateur golf world to Philadelphia. And when the week arrived, Philadelphia Country Club delivered. Our golf course was presented beautifully, our facilities were ready, and the hospitality throughout the property reflected the very best of PCC. Every department contributed. Much of that work happened behind the scenes through early mornings, late nights, quick adjustments, and an unwavering attention to detail. I could not be prouder of our staff. They met the week's demands with professionalism, flexibility, and genuine pride in representing Philadelphia Country Club. Just as importantly, our members were tremendous partners throughout the process. Hosting a national championship required patience and adjustments to normal Club life, while many members also gave their time as volunteers and ambassadors. The enthusiasm and hospitality you showed our guests did not go unnoticed. The championship also gave us an opportunity to showcase PCC on a national stage. Those who may have known our Club primarily for its history were able to experience not only the quality of our golf course and facilities, but the people and culture that define PCC today. As we move forward, we have an opportunity to build on that momentum, particularly in how we communicate and connect with both our members and the broader community. One of the most significant initiatives ahead is the launch of a new Philadelphia Country Club website and mobile app experience. We are taking it a step further than a visual refresh. We are rethinking our digital presence to make it more dynamic, intuitive, and responsive to how people expect to interact with organizations today. For members, the new experience will make it easier to discover what is happening across the Club, access relevant information, and engage with the programs and amenities that matter most to them. Through deeper CRM integration, we will also have the ability to better understand member interests and deliver communications that are more timely, targeted, and relevant rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Externally, our new website will better position PCC for the way people increasingly discover information online. That includes traditional search engine optimization (SEO) as well as AI optimization (AIO), ensuring that our digital content is structured, current, and accessible as search continues to evolve through AIpowered platforms and experiences. Ultimately, the technology is only a tool. The objective is a better experience. Fewer barriers, more relevant information, stronger engagement, and a digital presence that reflects the quality of Philadelphia Country Club. In many ways, U.S. Amateur week reinforced what is possible when preparation, communication, and execution come together. We want to carry that same mindset forward, not simply preserving what makes PCC special, but continually seeking thoughtful ways to improve the member experience.
4
Finally, thank you. Thank you to our members for your patience, enthusiasm, volunteerism, and support. Thank you to our staff for the extraordinary commitment and pride you brought to the Club. And thank you to everyone who played a role in helping PCC welcome players, families, officials, spectators, and guests from around the country. It was a remarkable week for Philadelphia Country Club and a proud chapter in our history. Now, we look forward to building on it. Best regards,
Ryan Kenny, CCM, CCE General Manager/COO

Hi Everyone, Welcome back to Treasurer's Corner, where we share regular updates on Philadelphia Country Club’s recent financial performance and strategic outlook. A Summer of Milestones The end of summer is upon us, and what an extraordinary season it has been. Thanks to the combined efforts of our membership and management team, the Club successfully executed two massive, highprofile initiatives to rave reviews: The US Amateur: This landmark event was an enormous success. The praise we received from the USGA, golf analysts, and across social media has been phenomenal, significantly elevating the Club’s global brand and reputation. The Mill’s Ongoing Success: Following its on-time and on-budget completion, The Mill has generated exceptionally strong momentum. After its first two months of summer operations, it continues to outperform our initial revenue, service, and culinary benchmarks. Some members have asked whether The Mill is cannibalizing revenue from our main clubhouse dining room. The data shows a healthy balance: while it naturally draws members looking for a casual atmosphere who might have otherwise dined off-campus, our main clubhouse menus remain highly competitive, and regular dining traffic there remains stable. Financial Performance & Key Metrics As of July 31—marking the end of the first nine months of our fiscal year—our overall financial trajectory continues to trend ahead of our budgeted projections. Cost Controls: We continue to sustain lower payroll expenses through optimized staff scheduling and improved operational management. The Final Stretch: The final quarter of our fiscal year (August through October) is historically critical. Management remains laser-focused on tightly controlling operational costs while delivering the premium, seasonal club experience you expect. Membership Pipeline: In our last update, I shared that we had reached our annual goal of 22 new Resident members. As of August 15, that number has grown to 24 Resident members, with 49 new members across all categories. The spotlight from the US Amateur has accelerated our inquiry pipeline. Expanding our active membership base allows us to distribute fixed costs more efficiently, directly easing the long-term upward pressure on individual dues.
6
Looking Ahead As we transition into autumn, please note these important upcoming dates: Labor Day & September Weekends: Enjoy the pool and the pool bar from Friday through Sunday all the way until the end of September. Second Annual Finance Town Hall: Join us on Tuesday, December 15 for a transparent, comprehensive review of the Club's year-end position and financial outlook. A Final Note on Club Stewardship Recently, PCC member Mark McCallum—who also holds a membership at Victoria Golf Club in Australia— shared a highly insightful perspective on country club longevity. The piece outlines the vital balance of intergenerational equity—the principle that each generation of members must responsibly fund the ongoing asset consumption they enjoy, rather than deferring maintenance and pushing liabilities onto future generations. Investing thoughtfully in our physical campus today ensures our infrastructure remains premium for decades to come. I highly recommend reading the short piece linked below: Read: Strategic Stewardship & Intergenerational Equity And if you have a trip planned to Melbourne Australia, Mark would be delighted to set up a game for you at Victoria Golf Club – one of Golf Digest's Top 100 golf courses of the world! Autumn brings some of the best weather, pristine course conditions, and vibrant campus life of the entire year. I look forward to seeing you around the Club soon. See you at the Club,
Pete Goodhart Treasurer, Philadelphia Country Club

From the Fairways Head Golf Professional, Scott Reilly, PGA
Finishing Strong: Fall Golf in September, October, and November As the calendar turns to fall, the golf season enters one of its most rewarding stretches. September, October, and early November provide ideal conditions—cooler temperatures, firmer turf, and often some of the best scenery as the leaves change color. It’s also a time to strike the right balance between enjoying the camaraderie of member events and staying committed to your personal goals so you can finish the season on a high note. Fall Events: Men’s Fall Classic — September 11 and 12 Mixed Twilight — September 18 Ladies’ Fall Guest Day — September 22 Men’s One-Day Member-Guest — September 23 Under 50 Member-Guest — October 2 Tuesday Ladies’ Closing Day — October 6 Thursday Ladies’ Closing Day — October 15 Men’s Closing Day — October 17 Junior golfers, note that the Player Development Program continues in the fall with Sessions 6 and 7. Plus, Fall Ball starts in October. In addition, for those looking to compete, we have a Parent-Child event on September 20 and the Helen Sigel Wilson Invitational on September 27. Play with Purpose With the end of the posting season approaching, every round matters. Scores can be posted to GHIN through November 14, making this a critical window to see your work translate into results. Approach each round with a clear intention. Commit to a pre-round plan, track key stats (fairways, greens, and up-and-downs), and reflect afterward on what’s improving and what still needs attention. Rather than simply playing for score, use your rounds as a measuring stick for your progress. Sharpen Your Short Game Fall conditions bring a noticeable change around the greens. The rough becomes thicker, heavier, and more unpredictable. This demands a more thoughtful and versatile approach to your short game. Spend extra time practicing: Club selection: Don’t default to one wedge—experiment with different lofts and even short irons. Ball-first contact: Focus on getting to the bottom of the golf ball to avoid the club getting stuck in heavy grass. Trajectory control: Not every shot needs to be high—learn to play lower, running shots when appropriate. The players who adapt best to these conditions are the ones who save strokes and maintain consistency late in the season. Be mindful of: Slightly shorter carry distances with cooler temperatures. Firmer greens that will be more receptive to shots from the fairway.

Variable lies that require creativity and commitment. Staying committed to your pre-shot routine. Continuing to work on your 3- to 5-foot putts to become “automatic.” Golf Team Updates Thank you to our summer golf interns, Jayden Keenoy and Sophia DeSantis. Jayden returns to Coastal Carolina for his sophomore year in the Professional Golf Management Program, while Sophia returns to Fairfield University for her senior year on the women’s golf team. We thank them for their efforts and for choosing PCC. Continuing with us in the fall will be Jack Lorenz and Spencer Cornelious. Both finished their studies at Methodist University and will continue to grow within our program. Congratulations to Ken Taras, PGA Assistant Golf Professional, for finishing T25 in his first Philadelphia PGA Section Championship. Ken made the cut and had a strong showing against 150 other area club professionals. Fall Golf Operations The Golf Shop closing time changes to 6 PM in October. Please note that after Labor Day, the driving ranges will close at sunset. The Spring Mill range will still close early on Wednesdays and Sundays for a clean pick of all the balls for mowing. Golf Course Aerification All greens are scheduled for aerification on October 19, 20, and 21. Aerating golf greens is vital to relieve soil compaction from foot and equipment traffic, control spongy organic thatch buildup, and boost oxygen, water, and nutrient flow to grass roots for a smoother, firmer playing surface. As the season winds down, set a clear goal for these final months—whether it’s lowering your handicap, improving a specific part of your game, or simply playing more consistently. Stay engaged in your practice, get lessons when needed, compete in your events, and hold yourself accountable to your standards. The habits you build now will carry directly into winter and next season.

Once Upon A Christmas Classic Step into the magic of PCC’s Christmas Classic, inspired by some of the season’s most beloved holiday films. Throughout the Club, each space will bring a different Christmas favorite to life, from the candy cane-filled forest of Elf and the charm of Miracle on 34th Street to It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story. The celebration continues in the Ballroom with live music from Go Go Gadget, returning after last year’s event, along with a raw bar, strolling caviar and plenty of festive food and drinks throughout the evening. Before you head home, stop by Merc’s Bites for some late night snacks to enjoy on your ride. 24
