At The Mill A New Chapter Begins There are moments in the life of a club when something new signals more than an addition; it signals a shift.

A new rhythm.

A new way to gather.

At Philadelphia Country Club, that moment is arriving with The Mill. And helping to shape it is Neil Ross. With more than 26 years in hospitality, Ross has built a career around the art of making people feel at ease. A Temple University graduate and certified sommelier, he most recently held leadership roles at Michelin-recognized My Loup and Vernick Food & Drink, where hospitality is as essential as the cuisine itself. Across roles as Beverage Director, General Manager, and Director of Operations, his focus has remained constant: thoughtful service, strong teams, and environments that feel both polished and genuine.

Now, he brings that philosophy to something entirely new.

“The opportunity to shape something entirely new for the Club is what excites me most…This is about creating a new feeling and new opportunities for Members across all generations,” Ross says.

The Mill is designed to evolve throughout the day—easy and transitional in the morning, social by afternoon, and a true destination by evening. “It shifts from in-between moments to a place you plan to be…it meets Members wherever they are and gives them a reason to stay a little longer.”

Behind that experience is careful preparation. Ross is leading the development of menus, themes, service standards, and operating procedures, while coordinating marketing, staffing, and regulatory efforts to ensure a seamless opening. At the center of it all is the team.

“Everything starts with people…If we get the people right, everything else will follow.”

Service at The Mill will feel more relaxed, but no less intentional—an extension of the Club that is approachable, flexible, and built around how members live and gather. “The Mill really comes to life once Members begin using it…how Members use it will ultimately shape what it becomes.”

The Mill is not simply a new space. It is a beginning.

Construction Update

As the calendar finally turns to spring this month, we expect to see some colors popping around the Club. The Mill is not far behind. In fact, many areas inside the building are already revealing their new colors as flooring, wall, and ceiling finishes are being installed.

Just this week, we are seeing the beginnings of the exterior patterns, colors, and textures come into focus. Now that the weather has warmed, the exterior stone work can commence and we can get back to work on the pool bar and deck.

From the racquets entry and the golf course, the full bulk of the building can now be seen, with the golf course deck and the pool patio roof in place. Over the next month, the pool bar structure will be installed, completing the building’s profile. Work will continue in earnest both inside and outside the structure, and please be patient as the number of construction workers increases, matching the variety of trades working. Site logistics are a key concern in the coming weeks as we will be installing the PECO gas line from Spring Mill Road and constructing the new pedestrian entry.

Inside the building, all the rooms, walls, stairways, and hallways are complete, representing a significant milestone in terms of in-wall mechanical systems and other infrastructure necessary for safe and efficient occupancy and operation of the building.

Additionally, as you walk within the finished spaces, you can feel the sense of space and purpose and begin to imagine your experience there.

The Mill Committee, as well as our team of designers and consultants, continues to work behind the scenes to push progress and resolve issues. We are focused on addressing the myriad of insightful comments provided to us on the monthly Member tours, and the more mundane, like the angles of the TVs in the Sports Bar. Expect a rush of color this spring around the Club, but also some more dust, activity, deliveries, and people at the site through June as we finish construction, move in, and prepare for opening.

How will The Mill be used for private events?

The Mill fills a niche for small to mid-sized events. For hosts seeking a more relaxed atmosphere. It will be ideal for birthday parties, baby or bridal showers, and family celebrations.

It will also be great for casual corporate outings that don’t feel like a boardroom.

Company dinners or retreats. It works because it feels social by default. You don’t have to create the energy; it’s already there.

How will it be used for club-hosted events, and what signature experiences should it be known for?

It becomes the home base for recurring, lifestyle-driven programming. From culinary classes and tasting experiences to tournament gatherings and post-play socials, watch parties, trivia nights, swim team celebrations, and summer evenings with live music, the energy is constant. Each experience is designed to feel relaxed and effortless, more like a resort, while still delivering the elevated service expected of the Club.

Will non-Member events be allowed?

Primarily Member and Member-sponsored use. Outside events may be considered selectively, but only if they align with the Club’s standards and do not disrupt Member access or experience.

What size events is The Mill best suited for?

Small (10-20 people) to medium (20-40 people) gatherings. It is intentionally scaled to feel comfortable and active, not oversized.

How do you program for different Member groups?

We plan the calendar so that different groups show up at different times and often overlap.

This creates natural opportunities for people to connect and helps the space feel welcoming and shared.

Is this primarily a Member amenity or a revenue-generating venue?

How will food and beverage be approached?

The Mill is designed first and foremost for everyday Member use, but select spaces will also be available for private events. Areas such as the Paddle Hut and the Pizzeria can be reserved for Member-hosted corporate gatherings, and the Sports Bar will be available for rental on days it is not in regular operation.

Interactive and customizable. Menus can be tailored for events, with the ability to introduce themed experiences like pizza nights, wine pairings, and tasting menus.

Dedicated event menus will streamline planning, while still allowing room for customization.
