2023-2024 Phi Kappa Tau Foundation Annual Report

Page 1

Dear Phi Tau family,

Under the leadership of Foundation Chairman, Jeff Hilperts and National President, Mike McCrum, we are celebrating a year of transformational impact. Continuing the tradition of strong leadership, Doug Adams has been elected Foundation Chair and he is now leading us inspirationally towards his primary goal of being a professionally run 501(c)(3) that facilitates philanthropy, surpassing our previous totals and becoming a leader amongst Greek Foundations.

On behalf of the Foundation Board of Trustees, we send our most sincere gratitude to our 1,210 donors who helped us raise almost $1.5 million this year. We celebrate each grant we made this fiscal year and take pride in the success of our undergraduate members. The focus of our support remains education based—through leadership, scholarship, community service, and our new mental health initiatives.

A special thank you to our Boles Society members who have embraced the Boles 1000 plan. This year the Society grew by 36%, and we will endeavor to reach 1000 Boles members in the next few years, which will significantly expand the Foundation’s potential for greater impact.

We are also very excited by the Trustees and the National Council’s demonstrated commitment to philanthropy this year, with leadership support from the Trustees at 100%!

As you can see, we are in a solid fiscal position and are growing. From Boles Society to the Heritage Society, and those who helped us set a new Founders Day of Giving record we give thanks. Know that the future is bright for Phi Kappa Tau and all its members, we are truly Developing Men of Character into Men of Distinction!

Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you! I can’t wait to meet you!

Warmest regards,

FOUNDATION GRANTS MAKE TRANSFORMATIONAL IMPACT

2023-2024 was a historic year for the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation. The Foundation funded our Fraternity’s $310,000 grant request in the Fall. This major grant supported the staffing and program costs to create and upgrade some of the most important and impactful programs for undergraduate members. This grant supported educational programming like Zenith Officer Institute, Regional Conferences, and Leadership Academy and enabled the launch of Mental Health Initiatives including our 24/7 365 Crisis Text Line available to all members.

In addition to the Fraternity grant, the Foundation gave another $47,000 in financial aid to 22 different scholarship winners and provided travel grants to undergraduate brothers attending educational programs.

DOLE-AIROLDI GIFT

The unprecedented support provided by the Foundation this past year wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our donors and stakeholders, who strive to ensure Phi Taus around the country have the resources they need. None embody this ideal more than Alan Airoldi and his wife Kathleen Dole-Airoldi.

Alan Airoldi, UC Berkeley ’57, entered the Chapter Eternal in 2017, and was survived by his wife, Kathleen “KK” DoleAiroldi, until she passed away in December of 2022. Following the passing of Kathleen, the Foundation received an unexpected bequest totaling $430,000. Their impactful gift played a crucial role in enabling the substantial grant to the Fraternity. Notably, a significant portion of this gift will be preserved in perpetuity in a named endowed fund, honoring the Dole-Airoldi Family and the Nu chapter at UC-Berkley.

HERITAGE SOCIETY

The Phi Kappa Tau Heritage Society was established to recognize alumni and friends who have made provisions for future generations of brothers though a will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance and/or other planned gifts. The Heritage Society members are sorted alphabetically by last name. The second list being all those who have entered the Chapter Eternal—their legacy continues to live on through their gift to the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation.

EWING T. BOLES SOCIETY

The backbone of our annual campaign is the Ewing T. Boles Society. Those generous donors who give $1,000 or more—often much, much more—account for the majority of all giving to the Foundation. And we simply cannot support the educational initiatives of the Fraternity, fund educational scholarships and support our individual chapters without their generosity. Last year, our Boles 1000 initiative resulted in a record for the number of Boles-level donors. Below is a list of the Boles Society Members for the fiscal year 2023-2024, and through their support, Phi Kappa Tau will continue to thrive long into the future. The journey to 1000 Boles Members is well underway, and we will continue to inch closer to that goal with each passing year!
