t’s easy to make sure your child’s summer is packed with fun and enrichment with the M-NCPPC Department of Parks of Recreation in Prince George’s County. There are plenty of summer programs from which to choose— more than 631 camp sessions, 94 Summer Playgrounds and 19 Xtreme Teen Centers! Summer Camps are structured, full- or halfday camps that last one or two weeks, while Summer Playgrounds and Xtreme Teen Centers are supervised drop-in programs that operate for six weeks. You may mix and match so your child attends camp some weeks and a playground or teen center other weeks.

Register for any Summer Camps you have selected beginning February 26 at 9 am (see pages 4 & 5 for registration details). Pay in full while registering, or make a deposit and schedule payments.

Register for the corresponding extended care sessions for any camps your child is signed up for beginning Monday, February 28. Your child is guaranteed a spot!

Register for any Summer Playgrounds or Xtreme Teen Centers you have selected starting April 1 (see page 50). Be sure to turn in all necessary forms (Participant Profile, Health forms, etc.) for each camp, playground or teen center your child is registered for by June 1. CAMP REGISTRATION INFORMATION

SMARTLINK INFORMATION You must have a SMARTlink account established prior to registering for any program. EXTENDED CARE INFORMATION • You must first be registered in the corresponding day camp before registering for extended care. (Not all camps offer extended care.) • Please complete extended care registration at least one week prior to camp start date. • You must pay in full at the time you register for extended care. • Extended care registration is NOT available via SMARTlink telephone.

PAYMENT & PAYMENT SCHEDULING OPTIONS You may pay in full or make a $50 deposit (per camper, per session) when you register, and schedule the remaining payments. The $50 deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.

CANCELLATION POLICY Registrants are entitled to a 100% refund (or SMARTlink credit) in the event that M-NCPPC cancels a camp.

Scheduled payments must be paid in full by June 1 for sessions that begin on or before July 11; or by July 1 for sessions that begin after July 11. (June 1 is the last date personal checks will be accepted.) You may pay your balance before the due date; when paying on line or using the automated touch-tone telephone system, your payment will be shown as a credit to your account. On the due date, the system will automatically apply that credit to the balance. REGISTRATION DATES Prince George’s County residents: Camp registration begins: February 26, 9 am Extended care registration begins: February 28, 9 am Non-Prince George’s County residents: Camp and extended care registration begins: March 5, 9 am

WAYS TO REGISTER... To register via Internet or telephone, have your SMARTlink barcodes and family PIN, course number, and MasterCard/VISA credit/debit card number. Register on the web – visit www.pgparks.com and click on the SMARTlink logo before midnight June 12. Register via SMARTlink automated, touch-tone telephone – call 301-583-BOOK (2665) before midnight June 12. Register in person at any M-NCPPC staffed facility in Prince George’s County. All walk-in registrations during the week prior to camp start date must be processed at the offering facility, and are subject to supervisor approval.

CHECK POLICY Checks returned for insufficient funds will be assessed a $20 fee by M-NCPPC, in addition to your bank charges. NO starter checks accepted. FEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Fee assistance is available (subject to approval) for Prince George’s County residents only. For complete information and application forms, stop by your local community center or obtain the forms on line at www.pgparks.com>About Parks and Recreation>Fee Assistance. Applications must be processed no later than 3 weeks prior to start of program. LATE PAYMENT PENALTIES If you’ve made a deposit and full payment is not received by the due date, your space may be forfeited and you will lose your $50 deposit. If the camp accepts your late payment, you will be assessed an additional $20 late payment fee. WAIT LISTS If a camp session is full, you may put your name on a wait list and register for another camp during that session. If a spot opens at your first-choice camp, upon your request your registration will be transferred to the first-choice camp without penalty. WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICY Withdrawal and refund requests for fully paid or partially paid registrations are subject to a $50 non-transferable, non-refundable withdrawal fee per child/per session. Withdrawal and refund requests from extended care (with continued enrollment in associated camp) will be assessed a 20% fee. NO EXCEPTIONS. Withdrawals from sessions must be processed by the facility offering the program. WHAT (R), (NR) AND (IA) MEAN (R) means Residents of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties; (NR) means Non-Residents of all other jurisdictions; and (IA) means residents living in the Impact Area of the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex. Impact Area residents receive a fee reduction for camp programs at the Complex. Call 301-583-2400, TTY 301-583-2483 for information about the Impact Area.

SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION AND POLICIES

Swimming Trips Policy – SWIMMER DESIGNATIONS Please read the following information carefully prior to selecting your child’s swimming designation on the Health Form. To help ensure the safety of your child while he or she is participating in swimming pool trips this summer, you will be asked to designate him or her as a “Non-Swimmer” or “Swimmer” on the Health Form. Use the following descriptions as a guide for selecting your child’s appropriate swimming designation. NON-SWIMMER: Non-swimmers have limited or no previous experience with swimming pools or other aquatic environments. They are unable to independently swim distances of 20 yards or more and/or cannot swim or play comfortably in water that is above their heads. If you designate your child as a “Non-Swimmer” on the Health Form, he or she will be restricted to chest-deep water on swim trips. SWIMMER: Swimmers have previous experience with swimming pools or other aquatic environments. They can swim a minimum of 20-yards and can swim or play comfortably in water that is above their heads. If you designate your child as a “Swimmer” on the Health Form, he or she will be required to pass a swim test each time he or she visits a pool. The swim test requires participants to enter and to exit the pool unassisted, swim a minimum of 20 yards in water more than five feet deep and continuously tread water for a minimum of 20 seconds. Upon successful completion of the required swim test, children designated as “Swimmers” will have full access to both shallow and deep-water areas of the pool during swimming trips. Designated “Swimmers” who do not pass the required swim test will be re-designated as “Non-Swimmers” on their Health Form and restricted to chest-deep water. If your child’s swimming abilities change between the time you register for a program and the start of the program, please contact staff, you will need to fill out and sign a new Health Form.

EXTENDED CARE OPTIONS • Supervised, non-structured playtime before and after camp session hours are available for many camp sessions. Extended care sessions are listed with each camp session in this brochure. Not all camps offer extended care. Please check activity descriptions. • All disability accommodation requests (inclusion services) for extended care must be indicated on the Participant Profile Form (p. 57) and requested at least two weeks prior to the start date of the camp. LATE PICKUP FEE POLICY A late fee of $5 per camper for every 15 minutes late (or portion thereof) will be assessed for campers who are not picked up by the program’s scheduled closing time. Payment is due when you pick up your camper. We recognize that emergencies arise and request that parents call the campsite if they are delayed for any reason; however, the late fee still will be assessed. REQUIRED FORMS A complete list and explanations of forms is available at ww.pgparks.com, and in the Parent Handbooks (available in English & Spanish), or obtained from staff. All forms and handbooks can be downloaded from www.pgparks.com. NOTE: Maryland state law requires that each child have a complete set of health forms at each program. Completed health forms must be turned in prior to the first day of the program session. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to deliver all necessary, completed health forms to each program location. Children may not attend any session without completed health forms on site. NO EXCEPTIONS. • Participants must provide date of last tetanus or DPT vaccination. • All participants must complete and return a Participant Profile Form (p. 57) and Health Form (p. 58). • All participants who take prescription or over-the-counter medication or use medical devices (i.e. inhalers, EpiPens®) must complete and return a Day Camp Medication Form. (A physician’s signature may be required.) • All participants must complete and return a Day Camp Authorization Form. • All forms are due by June 1. WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICY Withdrawal and refund requests for fully paid or partially paid registrations are subject to a $50 non-transferable, non-refundable withdrawal fee per child/per session. Withdrawal and refund requests from extended care (with continued enrollment in associated camp) will be assessed a 20% fee. NO EXCEPTIONS. THERAPEUTIC RECREATION & INCLUSION SERVICES WHAT IS INCLUSION? Inclusion within The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation means that individuals with disabilities are welcome to participate in the same recreation programs and activities as their non-disabled peers. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable an individual’s successful participation in a program. Certain minimum eligibility requirements, such as age and level of participation, must be met in order to participate. WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS? Accommodations that may be available to promote successful participation in programs include: the provision of an enhanced staff/participant ratio; use of companions; sign interpretation for the deaf and hard of hearing; adaptive activity equipment and/or supplies; accessible transportation when transportation is provided as part of an activity or program; and assistance with health services that do not require medical training. HOW DO I REQUEST A DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION? All disability accommodation requests for camps, including extended care, must be indicated on the Health Form (p. 58), noted on the individual’s SMARTlink account, and requested at least two weeks prior to the start date of the camp. WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL INCLUSION? The same minimum requirements that apply to a person without a disability also apply to a person with a disability. These include: • Meeting the program’s age and registration requirements; • Following the rules of conduct (with or without reasonable accommodation); • Voluntary participation (Note: Recreation programs and activities are voluntary in nature. Participation will be encouraged and aided, but not forced.); • Meeting necessary level of participation with or without reasonable accommodations (participant will engage in scheduled activities for the majority of the program time); • Ability to use a consistent form of communication to indicate basic needs and follow simple directions; and • Ability to function, with assistance, as a member of a group of 12 or more people.

WHAT SERVICES ARE NOT PART OF AN INCLUSIVE PROGRAM? Inclusion services do not include the following: • Provision of separate program activities • Exception (with or without accommodations) to minimum compliance with program rules and regulations established for safety purposes. • Hiring, selection, or guaranteed assignment of a specific staff member; • Individualized therapy within a program; and • Provision and/or purchase of personal custom devices. IS AN INCLUSIVE RECREATION PROGRAM THE RIGHT CHOICE AND/OR EXPERIENCE? Observe the program first-hand and ask yourself… • If school-aged, do your child’s current classroom activities or goals prepare him/her for an inclusive recreation experience? • Has the individual shown an interest in the program activity or subject matter? • Is he/she comfortable and able to function appropriately, with or without assistance, in inclusive environments (malls, restaurants, parks, etc.)? WHAT ARE THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES? The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation offers alternative choices (for Prince George’s County residents only) through its provision of specialized therapeutic recreation activities for individuals with disabilities. Patrons have a wide range of abilities and special needs; some prefer and benefit from participating in specialized programs designed specifically for participants with disabilities. Art Camp: Making a Musical

This camp is designed for children to have fun while they expand their imagination, express their creativity and sharpen their learning skills. Each camp will pursue a variety of artistic media, along with complementary reading and writing activities around such themes as animals, nature and adventure. For those who dream of being on stage. Act in an age-appropriate musical play and learn about musical theater, acting, singing, movement, costumes and scenery. On the final day of the session, campers perform for family and friends in the evening. Recreational activities also included. Tennis and Travel Camp

Tennis Camp: Children

Learn tennis fundamentals including rules, scoring, etiquette, terminology and techniques. Campers will take 2-3 trips weekly. Note: Tennis instruction at Watkins Tennis Bubble is conducted on indoor courts. Allentown’s programs are conducted on an outdoor court. For more specifics contact the camp facility.

Tennis camp includes three hours of instruction and play. Other activities may include nature hikes, fitness, wally ball, and swimming. Cosca tennis programs are conducted on outdoor tennis courts. Extended care is not available for half-day camps at Cosca Tennis Bubble.

WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICY FOR SUMMER PLAYGROUND & SUMMER XTREME TEEN CENTERS • The $40 fee for Summer Playgrounds and Summer Xtreme Teen Centers is non-refundable and non-transferable. NO EXCEPTIONS.

CANCELLATION POLICY Registrants are entitled to a 100% refund (or SMARTlink credit) in the event that M-NCPPC cancels a program. Conducted at neighborhood locations throughout the county, summer playgrounds offer fun activities for Prince George’s County residents only, ages 6-12. Children are free to come and go during the day, and to attend some days and not others. Extended Care is not offered. The fee is $40 per child, whether a child attends six hours a day for all six weeks, or select days and times only. Optional field trips and special events may be offered for additional fees. Children must meet the minimum age of 6 on or before August 31, 2011. These drop-in programs operate MondaysFridays, June 27 until August 5. All sites are closed July 4.
