On-Street Parking • Free on-street parking downtown is available for up to three hours except in designated NO PARKING zones.

Parkades and Lots • The City operates five parkades and seven parking lots that have stalls rented out on a month-by-month basis.

• Six locations offer hourly ($1 per hour) or daily ($6 per day) parking on a pay-by-plate basis.

Free Off-Street Parking • Free off-street parking is available on weekday evenings from 5:00pm onwards, all day Saturday and Sunday, and on statutory holidays at the following locations: • City Hall • Plaza Parkade (lower level) Winter Restrictions – Downtown • Parking restrictions are in place from October 15 to April 15 of each year to help with snow and ice control operations. On-street parking is prohibited from 12:00am to 7:00am.

FEBRUARY Downtown Winterfest invites everyone to “Come Celebrate Winter”. Our downtown has been transformed into the ultimate winter playground. Even on the frostiest of days, downtown becomes the hot spot where the whole family can embrace the cold with a variety of fun winter activities for all ages.

JULY Summer just isn’t summer until you have experienced Downtown Summerfest! We hope that everyone will be able to, ‘Take to The Streets’, once again. You don’t need a better excuse to hang out with your friends and family in Prince George’s downtown. There has always been great food, live entertainment, exciting activities, fascinating vendors and literally… something for everyone! We will look forward to seeing people smiling, enjoying incredible food and just being social in our downtown.

NOVEMBER SEPTEMBER Fall is another time to celebrate the changing of the leaves and embrace that slight chill in the air. The whole family can enjoy Downtown Fallfest where vendors and exhibitors will introduce you to local products, green & sustainable ideas and a unique look at Prince George’s farming and entrepreneurial spirit

Plaid Friday is a relaxing and enjoyable alternative to “Black Friday”, taking place on the same day. This special day kicks off a great campaign to promote downtown and its many local and independently owned businesses making for great holiday shopping and celebrating.

EGUSI SOUP(Nigeria)

Instructions

Ingredients 250ml Water 2 Cups Grinded Egusi (Melon Seeds) 1 Cup Palm Oil or a little more or less depending on preference 4 Tbsp Grinded Crayfish 3 Tbsp Iru (locust beans) (optional) 24 oz chopped spinach 1 Red Bell Pepper

Place Beef tripe, Goat Meat in a bowl. Cut 1 onion into cubes and put on meat. Add some salt to taste with water to boil. Cook until tender to your liking.

Blend the peppers and 1 Onion together until smooth and set aside.

Blend the Egusi, half of the remaining Onion, and Crayfish together.

Set aside as well.

Heat the Palm Oil in a pan and allow it to melt over a medium heat but don’t overheat the Oil. Add the remaining half onion (diced) and half of the Locust bean. Let it cook for about 3 minutes on a medium heat.

Add the blended pepper and cook till the water is reduced (this should take about 15 minutes on a medium heat) until the water is reduced stirring about every 5 minutes to prevent burning.

1 Scotch Bonnet or powdered Pepper 3 Onions Stock Cube (Maggi, Royco, Knorr) Optional 1 lb Beef Tripe, Dry Fish, Goat Meat Salt to Taste 3 cups Beef stock Chicken stock works just as well

Add the remaining locust bean, Beef stock, and salt to taste. Cover and leave to cook for another 5 minutes Gently introduce the blended Egusi inside the sauce but don’t stir it at this point. Just cover it and leave it to cook for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Keep an eye on it, so it doesn’t burn (but try not to stir it until the Egusi turns into a thick soft paste). Then, gently stir together and add more stock or water if necessary.

Add the Dry Fish and meat and leave to cook again for another 5 minutes.

Stir in the Spinach and leave to simmer for about 10 minutes (stir constantly). Adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Eat with rice, Eba, Pounded Yam, or Boiled Yams.

Serve while still hot.

A new partnership with Northern Health, Downtown Prince George and the Drug & Alcohol Recovery Team (DART) now supports a Clean Team that focuses on maintaining the cleanliness in our downtownalleys and laneways.

Downtown Prince George has worked closely with Paladin Security to support an overnight mobile security patrol. This program provides a security presence that can monitor activity in our downtown, alerting us to safety concerns and dangerous activity.
