Engineering plastics can be recycled through mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, or upcycling. They can also be reused through processes such as regrinding and extrusion, as well as in applications that require lowerperformance materials.

Most engineering plastics are not biodegradable or compostable, as they are designed for high-performance applications. However, some biodegradable options exist, such as polylactic acid (PLA), which can break down into natural components under specific conditions.
