Put a collar on your pet with your name, address, phone number, and a temporary place you will stay until the storm ends. Also, the dog’s name. Especially do this if the furbaby is not chipped.
Add one more emergency phone number on your pet tag. You can use a waterproof marker to do it.
Add a list of your pet's favorite things and habits just in case you get separated. Write down your family and closest friends phone numbers. Don’t forget your vet contacts.
Use a harness in addition to the collar just in case if you need to evacuate. Some pet companies have a calming down spray.
Consider packing an old shirt of yours.
Pets feel comfortable being able to smell the scent of their pet parent.
Get pee pads or diapers (if your pet needs them)
Get your pet favorite small toy. Avoid squeaky or other noise making toys.
Pack a pet stroller, bag or bed if your pet size allows it or a blanket.
Have in your pocket or wallet a pet emergency card with how many pets you have and more details. Add the card on a front window of your house, suitcase, bag, and in your car as well.
Get some dogs/pet pads if your pet is older and has difficulties moving. Get just in case a cooling vest or pad.
Pack: pet food, treats. Soft, hard food and small size treats. Peanut butter if your pet likes it for a healthy and filling snack. Have 1 2 collapsible pet food/water bowls. Bottles of water.
Get: A battery charger for your phone and regular batteries if need with a flashlight.
Lower the brightness of your phone to preserve your battery longer! Turn off your Wi-Fi.
Backup your phone and computer photos to the cloud or other online platform like google drive /dropbox
Charge a fan if your pet is older or has heart health conditions.
Download: Calming music if you don’t have access your internet. Or make sure you keep talking to your pet. Your pet loves and recognizes your voice.
Have a photo print of your pet and your family.
Put a family photo and emergency phone number as a screen saver on your home. Take photos of your home and car in case of damages to provide your insurance company.
Take down your photos from the walls closer to your windows. Store and lay down horizontal all of your pictures.
Wrap them and if needed, put them in a garbage bag. It is typically a closed closet ( depending on the layout ) in your home and it might be the safest place. Don’t forget your photo albums as well.
