Cover Photo Ultimately, this mold was chosen as the 2024 Sourcebook Cover photo because it exemplifies the power of using company strengths to attract and retain domestic business. By leveraging quality craftsmanship and collaborative partnerships, Industrial Molds, Inc., Rockford, IL (a subsidiary of the Pyramid Molding Group), was able to successfully reshore a mold from China and source the entire project (mold manufacturing, processing and plating) in the U.S. Because the end part needed to be molded and then chrome dipped, a process that would highlight any imperfections, the molded part had to be “perfect.” Understanding this, the Industrial Molds team worked with its customer to design a mold that could provide the correct fit and finish and made adjustments throughout the process to ensure the required quality was met, including proper gating to ward off blemishes or knit lines in the Class A surface. Relying heavily on its technology, unique scheduling process and experienced team, Industrial Molds was able to meet compressed deadlines, eliminate the complexity of multiple suppliers, overcome time zone and language barriers, and establish a relationship built on transparency, trust and communication.

CUT COST & INCREASE TOOL LIFE WITH DYNA-BLUE®, DYNA-BRITE™ & DYNA-GLOSS™ The most cost effective way to cut mold/tool cost is to increase tool life. DYNA-BLUE® & DYNA-BRITE'" are both low temperature Ferritic Nitrocarburizing processes that produce a hard 75+HRC compound zone diffused into the steel supported by a Nitrogen rich diffusion zone which increases wear resistance 2-10 times over nitriding and other coatings. We also offer DYNA-GLOSS to maintain gloss levels on textured tools and DYNA-BRITE to maintain high finishes on Lens/Lighting Molds and provides better release.

Through-hardenability AND

No stress relieving required?

MD®Xtra is your answer

Our latest development is the patented MD®Xtra. This new material achieves industry leading through-hardenability, high impact strength, and enhanced thermal conductivity. Finkl Steel has proven the through-hardenability of molds up to 45" thick through various tests and trials (see above photo of a full-sized block cut in half and hardness tested). If the application requires a high-polish requirement, Finkl Steel produces MD®Xtra in the "Super-Hard" condition at 38-43 HRC. If the application calls for a high-gloss finish (SPI A1 or greater), Finkl Steel’s vacuum arc remelt version MLQ®Xtra is the perfect fit. Both materials have been specifically engineered to support laser hardening, chrome plating, nitriding, texturing, and excellent weldability.
