écheresse, aridité, pénurie en eau, sont des termes parfois présentés comme synonymes . Questionnant cette apparente évidence, l’auteur focalise son analyse sur la notion de pénurie en eau et oppose aux travaux centrés sur la rareté physique des ressources en eau une approche qui place les usages de l’eau au cœur de l’explication . Tiré d’une thèse de doctorat, cet ouvrage propose un examen des principaux indicateurs de pénurie (notamment celui de «stress hydrique») et conduit à caractériser la pénurie comme un phénomène à la dimension anthropique prononcée : il est en grande partie socialement construit, géographiquement et historiquement situé . L’analyse historique de l’évolution du mode d’usage de l’eau de part et d’autre de la Méditerranée révèle des similitudes quant à la manière de se représenter l’eau comme une simple ressource dont l’abondance ne serait limitée que par le dynamisme des infrastructures hydrauliques (barrages, forages, usines de dessalement, etc .) . Par le biais d’une approche en économie institutionnaliste, historique et pragmatique qui restitue les justifications à l’origine des règles d’usage de l’eau, l’auteur propose des éléments de compréhension de l’avènement d’une pénurie en eau au Maroc et en Espagne et discute les solutions proposées pour tenter d’y faire face et qui participeraient de l’émergence d’un nouveau mode d’usage de l’eau .

s of a consequence of the ongoing economic crisis, in 2010 there was a marked deterioration in cross-border relations between Italy and Germany . In both countries the press published articles openly blaming economic hardship on the squandering attitude of southerners or the egoistic and mercantilist policies of northerners . The author examines the dynamics of participation in and welfare impact of integrated aquaculture-agriculture (IAA) value chain by using three-year panel data from indigenous households in the northern and north-western regions of Bangladesh . By different panel estimation methods he analyses the IAA value chain participation dynamics and indicates that education and household size, access to extensions and market information, community-based organisations (CBO) membership are positively associated with participation and continuing participation in IAA value chain activities . Welfare impact results indicate that IAA value chain participation is positively correlated to household income and consumption frequency of some goods, particularly fish . Assessment of the comparative socio-environmental impacts of rice monoculture and rice-fish based IAA practices suggests that rice-fish based IAA is a sustainable alternative to rice monoculture .

This book reviews methods used for measurement, estimation and forecasting volatility and presents major classes of volatility derivatives and their possible applications in investment strategies and portfolio optimization . Since volatility is not constant, its term structure and the phenomenon of the volatility risk premium are discussed in view of the permanently instable relation between realized and implied volatility . The study proposes a method to use this information in the process of forecasting future values of volatility .

Poland’s accession to the EU in 2004 created new challenges and opportunities for its transport service firms operating within the framework of the EU Single Market . This book evaluates the market structure in the Polish road, maritime, rail and air transport sectors and compares them to other EU countries, using both sectorial and firm-level data . Despite infrastructural underinvestment in most transport sectors, Poland enjoys a strong competitive position in supplying international road and rail cargo services, but the modernization of transport infrastructure remains a major challenge .

This study explores issues of biomass energy use in relation to household welfare and it assesses Ethiopia’s future energy security with a focus on long-term model of the energy sector, and institutional arrangements required for decentralized energy initiatives . Data from Ethiopian rural households reveal negative welfare effects associated with traditional biomass energy utilization, while increases in the opportunity cost of fuelwood collection is associated negatively with allocation of labour to agriculture and fuelwood use . It appears that investment on integrated energy source diversification improves sustainability and resilience, but increases production cost . Innovations that improve alternative sources reduce production cost, improve energy security, and thus serve as an engine of economic growth .

His memoirs help to understand the collapse of the communist system and the stormy period of systemic change from a personal perspective . The author participated in these changes as an already well known Sovietologist, as well as through his own on- and off involvements in post-communist transition politics, participating in various advisory bodies (including that advising President Walesa) .

Die Bewertung der einzulegenden Forderungen wird durch den Gesetzgeber nicht abschließend geklärt . Nach einer rechtlichen Grundlegung entwickelt der Autor einen Formelapparat, der die Ermittlung der Werthaltigkeit der Sacheinlage sowie die Bewertung aller weiteren Kapitalgeberansprüche ermöglicht . Weil die Entscheidung über Fortführung oder Liquidation nicht aus Unternehmensgesamtperspektive getroffen wird, sondern den entscheidungsberechtigten Kapitalgebergruppen obliegt, kann es zu Interessenskonflikten kommen . Der Autor untersucht die Bilanzierung von Alternativen Risikotransferinstrumenten (Insurance-Linked Securities, Insurance Derivatives, Contingent Capital) nach HGB und IFRS (unter Berücksichtigung des Standardentwurfs für Versicherungsverträge ED/2013/7) und veranschaulicht die Bilanzierungsvorschriften mit Buchungsbeispielen . Er würdigt die Bilanzierungsvorschriften im Hinblick auf ihren Beitrag zu tatsachengetreuen und entscheidungsrelevanten Jahresabschlussinformationen und leitet Handlungsempfehlungen ab . Da Alternative Risikotransferinstrumente sowohl Merkmale von Rückversicherungsverträgen als auch von Finanzinstrumenten aufweisen, ist die Frage der Klassifizierung der Transaktion als Rückversicherung oder Finanzinstrument von entscheidender Bedeutung für die Bilanzierung .

Die Autorin analysiert den Verfügungsmachtbegriff und dessen Eignung als Realisationsmerkmal in der Umsatzrealisierung und Leasingbilanzierung nach IFRS . Bisher zeichneten heterogene Konzepte und Regelungslücken die Umsatzrealisierung nach IFRS und USGAAP aus . Im Rahmen des Konvergenzprojektes von IASB und FASB nahm man sich dieser Problematiken an und gab im Mai 2014 den IFRS 15 «Revenue from Contracts with Customers» heraus . In enger Beziehung steht das Projekt zur Leasingbilanzierung . Beiden Projekten ist die zentrale Rolle des Verfügungsmachtbegriffs gemein, mit dem sich bislang nicht ausreichend kritisch auseinandergesetzt wurde . Die Autorin zeigt zahlreiche offene Fragen und Inkonsistenzen im IFRS 15 auf und bemängelt ein divergierendes Nutzenverständnis der Verfügungsmachtbegriffe bei Umsatzrealisierung und Leasing .

Segment Reporting under IFRS 8

Der Zusammenhang von fehlerhafter Rechnungslegung und Unternehmensfinanzierung

Reporting practice and economic consequences The adoption of IFRS 8 marked a major change in the segment reporting rules under IFRS .

This step, however, was heavily criticized and several questions regarding IFRS 8 still remain unanswered . Therefore, this study analyzes the impact of IFRS 8 on segment reporting practice and its economic consequences . The results show that firms report on average more segment information . Moreover, segment reports from the management’s perspective are useful and mitigate information asymmetries, reduce the cost of capital and affect the work of financial analysts . The findings have implications for the IASB, preparers, auditors and users of financial statements as well as enforcement institutions .

EcoPolis Edité par Marc Mormont La collection EcoPolis est dédiée à l’analyse des changements qui se produisent simultanément dans la société et dans l’environnement quand celui-ci devient une préoccupation centrale . L’environnement a longtemps été défini comme l’extérieur de la société, comme ce monde de la nature et des écosystèmes qui sert de soubassement matériel à la vie sociale . Les politiques d’environnement avaient alors pour but de «préserver», «protéger», voire «gérer» ce qui était pensé comme une sorte d’infrastructure de nos sociétés .

Après quelques décennies de politique d’environnement, la nature et l’environnement sont devenus des objets de l’action publique et il apparaît que c’est dans un même mouvement que chaque société modèle son environnement et se construit elle-même . Cette dialectique est au centre de la collection .

«Strukturwandel», vor allem «globaler Strukturwandel», ist in aller Munde . Er ist in der Tat das wichtigste Phänomen, in dem sich die Dynamik des Wirtschaftens äußert und das dem Wachstum der Wirtschaft zugrunde liegt . Auch Wirtschaftspolitik ist seit mehr als zwei Jahrzehnten weit eher «Strukturpolitik» (im weitesten Sinne, also institutionelle Strukturen eingeschlossen) als «Globalsteuerung» . Statisch-statistisch gesehen haben Struktur und Strukturwandel mit ökonomischen Phänomenen auf «mittlerer» Aggregationsebene und ihrem Wandel zu tun: Sektoren, Branchen, sektorale Cluster und Netzwerke, ferner Regionen, regionale Cluster und Netzwerke sowie schließlich Betriebsgrößenklassen (wie z . B der «Mittelstand» oder Kleinstunternehmen und Existenzgründer) .

Diese strukturelle Dimension der Wirtschaft beschreibt zugleich das moderne Feld der Meso-Ökonomik .

Insgesamt soll mit dieser Reihe der Anspruch verfolgt werden, eine moderne, interaktive Meso-Ökonomik zu repräsentieren .
