Call us paranoid, but we’re pretty sure there are assassins everywhere. Don’t believe us? Just look at this map – the Assassin’s Creed series has been all over the globe… stePhen ashby
Publisher ubisoft / DeveloPer ubisoft massive / release Dates 2007-2017
Montreal, Canada
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag there are references to montreal in the Contracts missions of Assassin’s Creed III, but we don’t get a proper look at the city until Black Flag. even then it’s the modern-day city that we see as we explore the templar-run abstergo entertainment offices as an unnamed assassin initiate. to get the best look at the city, pop up to Garneau’s top-floor office. it’s real swanky.
New Orleans, USA
Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation okay, so maybe we’d rather play an Assassin’s Creed title set in New orleans during the jazz age, but this is still a fun excursion into Louisiana. the city itself is quite small (it was 1765, after all) but you also have the chance to explore the bayou. it’s filled with crocodiles, though, so arm yourself before you head down there to enjoy one of the beautiful sunsets.
The Caribbean
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag if your idea of paradise is sitting on a sandy beach as the sun beams down on you, you’ll love a bit of Black Flag. be warned, though – there is also a lot of stabbing, shooting and general skullduggery. the game world is the standout part of ACIV, with a huge ocean littered with small islands to explore. Larger cities like Havana help break up the pirate’s life, too.
New York, USA
Assassin’s Creed III When frank sinatra sang ‘New York, New York’, we’re fairly confident he wasn’t talking about the city in 1776 as the assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton (just call him Connor) stopped a templar plot to assassinate George Washington. We certainly didn’t hear frank mention anything about hidden blades. While you’re there, take a trip to the swampy mess that would later become Central Park!
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Assassin’s Creed III Desmond takes a trip to the most populated city in the southern hemisphere in the modern day to retrieve an ancient power source, which is hidden beneath a stadium, needed to unlock a magic door in an even more ancient temple. if that all sounds like total nonsense, then welcome to Assassin’s Creed. While in brazil, Desmond assassinates his nemesis, and escapes on the city metro. Not the best sightseeing tour, if we’re honest.
Paris, France
Assassin’s Creed Unity Did you know that in revolutionary france people sometimes didn’t have faces, or would just disappear into the floor? History is so interesting. after the patches to fix numerous bugs, Paris really is a joy to explore though, and thanks to the Xbox one’s power, it is absolutely packed with people. unfortunately, they all have weird british accents – they were probably auditioning for roles in Syndicate.
London, UK
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Cor blimey, guv! i can’t adam ‘n’ eve it! blow me down! Yep, you guessed it – Creed’s London is packed with cockneys yelling at you. We would normally call out ubisoft for playing on stereotypes, but we’ve been to London on a saturday night, and it’s… surprisingly accurate. Syndicate’s London is huge, and it features trains that regularly chug between the stations! actually, maybe it isn’t so accurate after all.
Italy
Assassin’s Creed II the Colosseum, the canals of venice, the sistene Chapel, and more piazzas than you can shake a hidden blade at. ezio travels through much of italy during his life and meets some famous faces along the way, including Leonardo Da vinci and michelangelo (the painter, not the Ninja turtle). He also punches the Pope. When in Rome, and all that.
Russia
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles if you like completing colouring books using only the colours black and red, you’ll love the Russian entry in the Chronicles series. the dour colour scheme was likely supposed to evoke ideas of communist control and government control, but in reality it just made us long for the bright, colourful lands of Rome, india or Cuba. about as much fun as running around moscow naked in february.
China
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles shao Jun’s stabby stroll through China takes in some lovely sights – there are misty mountains, misty cities and, erm, misty forests. turns out there was a lot mist in 1526, okay? the world in which the 2.5D action takes place is lovely; it’s just a shame that action itself isn’t really much fun. still, if you fancy stabbing people on the Great Wall, first go speak to a psychiatrist, then try this game.

Egypt
Assassin’s Creed Origins sand. a bit of blood and shitloads of sand. No, we’re not talking about your car journey home after a family holiday to blackpool. We’re talking about the mind-bogglingly huge and truly beautiful egyptian world created for Origins. Clambering all over ancient and priceless relics is what Creed is all about, and this ticks the box so hard it broke the pencil. it’s a stunning world to explore. seriously, though – there’s a lot of sand.
Jerusalem
Assassin’s Creed ah, Jerusalem. Do you remember the first time you clambered to the top of a tower in the first Creed? Do the same now and you’ll squint across a scene that looks like an amazon delivery dropped a load of brown boxes onto the street, but back in 2007 it was an incredible achievement. the Holy Land held plenty of wonders, including altair’s secret weapon: dozens of hay bales that serve no purpose apart from as a cushion.
Constantinople
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations We know what you’re thinking. You thought Constantinople was a madeup, mythical city like atlantis. Wrong! it is ezio’s playground way back in 1509, long before it became istanbul in 1923, and it is the location of his final missions as a playable character. Revelations wasn’t the most popular title in the series, but this is worth playing for the city alone.
India
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles the pinnacle of the Chronicles series is this beautiful watercolour jaunt through the temples and streets of india in 1841. soaked with all the bright colours that the Russian entry in the series was lacking, and full of rampaging elephants, the world we get to explore makes us wish for a full, 3D adventure set in Delhi or bombay.
