Welcome to the Petchey Academy In this handbook, I hope we can communicate the passion, ambition, and commitment we have for our students. This is a school that places a strong focus on developing a culture of high aspirations among our school community. Above all, I want our young people to set their sights high, aiming for top universities and sought-after professions. Our students will one day be the country’s future leaders as lawyers, doctors, scientists, and engineers. To achieve academic success, you must first create a warm and welcoming learning environment where students feel safe and supported. This includes the systems and structures in place to ensure extremely high standards of behaviour, with students expected to be respectful, courteous, and well-mannered always. Also crucial is a broad, purposeful, balanced curriculum doesn’t just teach the answers, but invites questions, engages inquisitive, creative minds, and develops a lifelong thirst for learning and knowledge. Education isn’t just what you learn for exams, we must also prepare students for life beyond the classroom. This is why we encourage students to join a range of clubs, activities, trips, and mentoring sessions to develop their interests and talents. There are various clubs available to allow students to explore their talents and potential. I passionately believe that the right education has the transformative capacity to change lives, lift communities, to create belief and high expectations among young people. Choosing a secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make regarding their future. What you will find here is a calm and purposeful learning environment, offering a host of opportunities to ensure that our students are able to thrive. Daily Timetable
Equipment All students must bring the following compulsory equipment to the academy each day: • • • • • • •

Equipment can be bought locally, or from the student reception which is open to students throughout the day. A pocket home language dictionary is advised or can be provided if English is not your first language.
Curriculum All students begin a broad and balanced programme of study in Year 7, 8 and 9, before specialising on their GSCE subjects which begin in Year 10. More information about each of the subjects offered can be found on the main website in the Curriculum section.

Personal Presentation & Uniform Policy Please check the information below and make sure you are buying the correct uniform for your child. All students are expected to adhere to the following uniform expectations: • • • • • • • • • •
Blazer: TPA blazer with logo, must be always worn Shirt: plain white shirt, must be tucked in and top button done up Tie: TPA tie, worn to the waist. Jumper (optional): Plain black V-neck jumper, no logos Trousers: plain black, tailored, regular fit (no denim, coloured pocket zips). A plain black belt should be worn to ensure trousers are worn correctly. Skirt: plain black, knee-length, pleated. It must not be rolled up. Socks or tights: plain black or navy Shoes: plain black leather school shoes, providing adequate protection and support (no casuals, fabric, canvas, trainers, sandals, pumps, ‘work type’ shoes e.g. Dr Martens boots, high heels, boots, coloured laces, coloured stitching) Coat: plain black, to be removed in the school building (no leather, suede, denim, hoody, sweatshirt, sports top, body warmer or gilet) Hijab, Abaya, Prayer Cap, Turban, Patka: Plain black.
