The reclaimed dark wood used throughout juxtaposed with bright white finishes gives the urban agriculture center a state of the art feeling, inviting community members to come and explore.
Situated in Brooklyn, the New York Urban Agriculture Center is the first of its kind. A museum-like space that will bring demos and exhibits of all the current urban agricultural practices to the public under one roof. With a mission to transform the way we grow and consume food, the Urban Agriculture Center focuses on fostering learning, building community, and empowering local residents to change the way we practice agriculture in our urban spaces.

WHY URBAN AGRICULTURE? Current agricultural practices and methods has lead to serious issues with the economic, social, political, and environmental state of our world. Made worse by the issue of climate change, it is necessary to transform how we produce and distribute food. Urban agriculture is a solution. THE DESIGN The design for the New York Urban Agriculture Center is the first of its kind, a museum-like space that will host displays of different urban agricultural practices. Some of these practices include hydroponics, aeroponics, container gardens, rooftop farming, vertical gardens, community gardens, and aquaponics. Modeled after the approach of The Living Building Challenge, the design for the New York Urban Agriculture Center is a regenerative space that connects occupants to light, air, food, nature, and community. With a fully integrated sustainability system, the building gives more than it takes, creating a positive impact on the human and natural systems.

SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIES VERTICAL GARDEN A 40’ tall vertical tomato garden serves as the focal point as you enter into the space. Lounge seating and a small cafe give guests the chance to relax and enjoy a menu with food grown right in the building.

Built on an abandoned lot, the New York Urban Agriculture Center includes several community garden boxes that are directly adjacent to the building. These allow community members to be involved in the growing process.
WILKES LIBRARY CONCEPT
PROJECT
Honey colored, wood beams are the main design element, while a bright blue is accented in the wall niches and furniture selection. Concrete and other neutral materials add to the inviting atmosphere.
Situated in the westernmost county of West Virginia, Wilkes Library serves as the heartbeat of the civic and cultural life in Harrisburg. With a population of just over 11,000, the design for the library incorporates several different features including a large auditorium space, computers, study rooms, books, music and DVDs, flexible community space, as well as a designated children’s area with bi-weekly children’s programs.

INTERIOR The main core of the L-shaped building houses the bookshelves and public computers. The two blocks of administrative rooms and offices flank this core which allows the open space to be well utilized for the various library services. The interior features high angled ceilings which give the space a lofty feeling. The wood beams run all the way to the floor, grounding the space and adding visual interest.

FURNITURE Organically plush-shaped furniture provides guests plenty of opportunities to sit and enjoy all the programs the library has to offer.

DETAILS Wood beams add depth and bring in a unique element. The bright colors and custom seating allow the children’s nook to host multiple activities.
ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT CONCEPT
PROJECT
The modular shape of the ADU mimics the look of the couple’s existing home, while accents of naturally aged corten steel give contrast.
Located in the heart of Northeast Portland, Oregon the Accessory Dwelling Unit designed for Mark & Kit Olpin provides the perfect guest house and Airbnb space. Both working professionals, the couple wanted an ADU that would complement the design of their modern split level home. The ADU is located behind their main home and sits adjacent to the detached garage.

Locally-sourced Douglas fir makes the ADU stand out amongst the lush, green vegetation of Portland. Corten steel accents add warmth to the exterior and an extensive green roof reduces the environmental footprint of the home.

Purple Root is a fast-casual restaurant aiming to provide healthy, tasty and affordable food. With a 100% vegetarian menu, Purple Root allows more people to enjoy a plant-based dining option. The design for the restaurant includes a small waiting area, ordering counter, and dining room, as well as, back- of-house operations.

BRANDING PACKAGE Developed with simple honesty, the branding for Purple Root inspires a healthy approach to life. The root logo represents the core of Purple Root’s mission, to provide 100% vegetarian options at an affordable price.

FLOOR PLAN The restaurant layout includes a small waiting area, ordering and togo counter, dining area, back-of-house operations, and a classroom where individuals and families can take cooking classes.

INTERIOR Aimed at bringing an inviting aesthetic to the world of vegetarian dining, natural daylight floods the space and brings out the warm tones of the wood. With a slight industrial nod, the grid ceiling detail and simple, drop pendant lighting provide the perfect setting for a quick and healthy meal.
Serenity med spa CONCEPT
PROJECT
Drawing inspiration from the beautiful simplicity of Japanese Zen gardens, the design for Serenity Medical Spa features a light neutral design accented with natural bamboo tones and diffused, soft lighting throughout.
Serenity Medical Spa is located at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley in Draper, Utah. Designed to give a complete tranquil feeling, the medical spa includes several consultation rooms, procedure rooms, as well as a lobby and employee break room.

The design fosters collaboration through versatile seating options, a variety of workspaces, and several different meeting rooms. hyrum city transit center CONCEPT
PROJECT
The design has a softened industrial aesthetic with exposed ceiling beams, boardformed concrete, and polished terrazzo floor. Rich textures and bright blue accents give the space an active feeling.
Located at the south end of Cache Valley, Utah Hyrum City has grown tremendously in the past five years. In order to keep up with this growth, it’s crucial the city provides a new park and ride transit center. The design takes a holistic approach to the integrative process of interiors, architecture, and landscape. With ample seating, modern spacious restrooms, and a small bistro, the Hyrum City Transit Center is a travel hub for visitors and year-round residents.

The simple but striking roofline of the building’s architecture serves as the focal point to the backdrop of the beautiful Cache Valley night sky. Boardformed concrete exterior and natural wood accents complete the design.
INTERIOR The central core structure, which contains the ticket kiosk and information desk, is wrapped in floor to ceiling wood slats. White architectural beams are fastened to it with reclaimed metal supports. Lounge seating, in blue and a classic black and white print, allow guests to relax while they wait for their bus to arrive. A polished terrazzo floor and board-formed concrete finish the space.
