POSITIVE FUTURES CASE STUDY TYIANA NELSON About me
What are you doing now?
I am 22 years old and I am from Rugby. I live with my mum, sister and brother. I went to Bilton High School and left there in 2012. My GCSE’s were not very good, I didn’t enjoy school and felt that there wasn’t much help. I did various courses as I didn’t know what I wanted to do but wanted to carry on with education. I also volunteer at a local club where I work with young people and I help run a youth club.
I am now working as a Custodial Care Officer at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre. I secured the role four weeks before the course finished. Joanna took me to my interview, it was mainly role play with one face to face interview. This role was all about the person and didn’t focus on qualifications. The PET-Xi team helped me prepare for the interview, so I could confidently put across my personality.
How did you learn about the PET-Xi programme?
Would you recommend a PET-Xi programme to a friend?
I learnt about the course from Justice. Steve Morris interviewed me and told me what it was all about, he told me that the course was focused on me and what I wanted. I soon realised that this course would help me and I also needed my maths for when looking for a job. What did you enjoy about the PET-Xi programme? The PET-Xi team were really helpful. There was a nice atmosphere in the group and everyone got on so well. I was the last to join the course, I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all and was made to feel so welcome. I wanted to improve my maths and I did. Pete and the team looked out for jobs that I would be interested in and gave me the confidence and guidance to apply for them.
I would definitely recommend the programme as it was very helpful and you get the help and support that you need. I didn’t leave school with the best grades, but Joanna and the team helped me with my CV and made sure that my p ersonality and determination showed through and that it best represented me as a person. Once I had my professional CV I could start applying for jobs. PET-Xi encouraged me every step of the way and because of this I never allowed myself to get off course. With continuous help and support they helped me believe that I can do anything.
