POSITIVE FUTURES CASE STUDY MEGAN SARGENT About me
What are you doing now?
I am 20 years old and I am from Bedworth. I went to Nicholas Chamberlaine School for 5 years, from 2008 to 2013. The subjects that I studied were Maths, English, Science, Art, History, Hospitality and Catering and Business. My school grades were not the best and I think this was because I struggled to complete the course work that is a big part of the final grade. After school I decided to attend City College as I really needed a fresh start and a chance to turn myself around. A chance to focus on a career. I studied Health and Social Care which was challenging but made me realise that I wanted a career helping people. I enjoy socialising with friends, learning new things and spending time with my nan. I walk her dog, do her shopping and generally make sure she is OK.
I am currently waiting to start my training with Jet2.com. Whilst on the Positive Futures programme I discussed with Joanna a job that I had always wanted to do since I was a little girl. I never ever thought that I would get a chance to do this job but when an opportunity came up to do it Joanna said I should definitely go for it. The PET-Xi team helped with every step of the interview process, helping with competence questions and what I would do in certain situations. When I got the call to say I was through to the training stage I couldn’t believe it.
How did you learn about the PET-Xi programme? I was with my work coach at the Job Centre and I saw a leaflet about the MOS course. I like working on computers and thought this course sounded interesting. I had a chat with Steve and he signed me up there and then and I started the course on the Monday. From there we discussed all of the opportunities that were available to me and from there I started the Positive Futures programme. What did you enjoy about the PET-Xi programme? I enjoyed every bit of the courses that I attended, both MOS and Positive Futures. It was daunting starting the programmes but between Steve, Joanna and Stevie they all made it so much easier and really enjoyable.
Would you recommend a PET-Xi programme to a friend? I couldn’t recommend PET-Xi enough. They have encouraged and supported me so much. They have given me so much confidence and made me believe that I could do anything that I wanted to do. Also when I received the call from Jet2.com to tell me that I had made it to the training stage, PET-Xi gave me the £700 that was needed to pay for the cost of the course from the PET-Xi Foundation which was set up as a charity foundation to help young people.
