MARIA’S STORY

P E T-X i C A S E S T U DY Maria Bliss, a 30-year-old mother of two from Nuneaton, gave birth to her second child one month before the pandemic began, and wanted to mark the start of post-lockdown life by returning to the workplace. Despite having more than 10 years’ experience in the care industry, Maria found that many roles required formal qualifications and came across PET-Xi’s remote courses via her Job Centre careers advisor. Maria found an ideal role within adult social care whilst completing her qualification and submitted a speculative application, before being told that she would be offered the job because of the skills and knowledge she would pick up on the course.

Support provided by PET-Xi Maria was enrolled on PET-Xi’s Level 2 Health and Social Care course to build on her practical experience in care as part of a 10-day programme. Harry Craker, Recruitment and Progressions Co-ordinator at PET-Xi said:

“The course that Maria took part in teaches learners about safeguarding and GDPR as well as equality and diversity, duty of care and personal development. “The feedback that Maria received from all of her tutors was excellent, she has very positive attitude to learning and her enthusiasm for care shows that she is definitely following the right career path.” The outcome Maria’s Level 2 qualification was vital to her securing a position as a social care worker for People in Action, a Midlands-based charity that delivers personal care services.
