PET-Xi Training Case Study – Demi’s Story

DEMI’S STORY

P E T-X i C A S E S T U DY Demi Holland-Dixon, aged 20, originally got in touch with PET-Xi in 2018 in a bid to develop her skills but struggled with anxieties around classroom learning and was not comfortable in new settings.

After focussing on her mental health and wellbeing, she re-joined PET-Xi with a newfound drive to better herself, with an ultimate goal of moving into employment.

Support provided by PET-Xi Demi joined PET-Xi’s 18-week Traineeship programme designed to help get young people into apprenticeships, employment or further training.

She is currently working with PET-Xi centre manager Kendall Clark and the team via interactive remote sessions including work preparation, ­employability, and personal development skills. She receives one-to-one support, information, advice and guidance to develop both her transferrable soft skills and functional skills in maths and English with our subject expert.

Kendall said: “Demi is an absolute superstar. She has applied herself daily, showing an incredible amount of dedication, resilience, and ­determination. She has taken lead on our work placement project heading up the fundraising team, and she has consistently smashed personal barriers and opened up opportunities.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic we have adapted our Traineeship to be remote online through our brand-new PET-Xi Live learning platform.

Demi is the first learner to log on each morning, it’s a joy to see her ­confidence and work skills grow each week, she has even won our learner of the month award for two consecutive months earning herself £50 in shopping vouchers.

“Her functional skills have seen a huge improvement as demonstrated in her recent midpoint assessments, she is now feeling capable and confident about her upcoming exams next month and we are now also looking at her next steps and preparation for work and beyond.

“Her passion is beauty – particularly lashes – as this will require additional qualifications at cost, she is now considering roles she would have previously avoided to gain financial independence and fund her professional development. She is considering options within contact centre work utilising her newly gained professional communication skills as well as similar roles she could undertake alongside any further studies whilst having the opportunity to progress and upskill.

“We’re all extremely proud of all she has achieved during the traineeship and of the vibrant, confident young person she has become.”

TRAINEESHIP

Outcomes Demi has seen her confidence increase even further and has developed a number of core transferable skills which will support her in her next steps. Her experience has also inspired her to launch her own small business, joining The Bodyshop at Home which sees her sell products from the brand.

“I have worked so hard at home on my traineeship to better myself through the pandemic and I’m so proud of myself.

The teachers are amazing and so supportive - I’ve done things I never thought I’d be able to.

“I chose PET-Xi because I thought it was an amazing opportunity to take and I’m so glad I did - it was the best choice I’ve ever made. I’m finally excited about my future, and with the support and encouragement of the PET-Xi team I know I’ll be successful in my next steps.”

Demi Holland-Dixon Together we work as one Demi’s traineeship is funded by Humber Learning Consortium AEB and run by award-winning national training provider PET-Xi Training. The programme aims to provide 16 to 24-year-old NEETs across Yorkshire and Humber the skills and confidence to move into work, apprenticeship or further training, removing potential barriers along the way. All learners receive a combination of explosive inspiration via live interactive sessions and one-to-one flexible support.
