ABU’S STORY
P E T-X i C A S E S T U DY Abu Imran, aged 37, had been out of employment for a long period of time and found that this was affecting his confidence during the job search process. He attended PET-Xi’s Level 2 IT User Skills course where he was also able to find out more about the additional support he could access through the training provider.
Support provided by PET-Xi Abu was referred to PET-Xi Employment Coach Charmaine Jones who conducted a detailed Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) assessment and discussed his career aspirations of working in security or sports coaching. Charmaine worked with Abu to enhance his CV, highlighting the work he had done to further increase his skills as well as arranging for him to complete an Employability Level 1 qualification. She not only looked into permanent vacancies, but also encouraged Abu to consider temporary roles while looking for longer-term employment. Charmaine said: “Abu would have needed an additional qualification to pursue a career in security, so we began looking into other sectors where he had experience. “He was initially apprehensive about temporary roles with employment agencies, but I worked with him to help build a more positive outlook and he secured a number of temporary cleaning roles. “This helped increase Abu’s confidence and has led to him obtaining a longer-term role in the industry. “Abu made working with him effortless - he was open minded to all suggestions of work and gave 100 per cent dedication to any v acancies I sent to him, as well as the additional training opportunities I registered him for.”
