EDITOR'S NOTE After twenty-eight days of February and a crazy week of extremely cold weather complimented with power and water outages, it's safe to say 2021's winter activities were quite eventful.
Can you believe we are already dipping our toes into the third month of the year? I personally think the first half of 2021 is breezing by quite quickly. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year - even though AP exams are approaching (and IB exams for others). However, the 2020-2021 officer team will soon be saying goodbye and passing on their duties to the 2021-2022 officer team. I can't wait to meet all the candidates.

As the month of love breezes by, Key Club has been spreading their love through service. During February, Plano East Key Club has set off on a mission to help their members with individual service projects such as CAS - creativity, art, service projects required for IB graduates - and others to ultimately help others all over the globe. Spoon Fed Care! Spoon Fed Care is a CAS project by one of our lovely Key Club officers in which members are required to either donate eight to ten dollars of canned food or submit two recipes using canned food. I have written an
article specifically on Spoon Fed Care if you are interested in how it got started and what they are planning to do next (page 8)! In addition to this CAS project, Plano East Key Clubbers are always welcome to submit their projects through the suggestions Google Form located on every Google Slide presentation and the Website.

As Plano East Key Clubbers spread love through their unique way of service, many people locally and even across the globe are being affected by their efforts. Hence, Plano East Key Club hopes to continue through this season of service by providing impactful missions to work
Evelyn serves as a model Key Clubber who has been the previous November 2020 Plano East Key Club member of the month. In addition to her, numerous leaders are building their character on leadership and I am especially proud of our advancement in service during this difficult year.

SPOON FED CARE a CAS project that's making moves on the hunger crisis

What is one of the biggest problems that have been amplified as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic? Food insecurity. Although the hunger crisis has been a continual worldwide issue, some Plano East seniors are helping ease food insecurity one can at a time. Three IB seniors - Aisha Polani, Divya Maddu, and Alice Liu - started Spoon Fed Care as their International Baccalaureate CAS project after coming across a Texas Tribune article on the troubles food banks have recently had due to the coronavirus and federal regulations. They hope to spread awareness about food insecurity locally and globally. “We’re working towards this goal by posting recipes that show the
usefulness for canned food, interviewing different activists about this issue, and donating cans,” the three girls stated. This first food can collection date was this past Friday, February 26th. This was a huge success and Spoon Fed Care officially collected 22 cans which were shortly after, on their way to the North Texas Food Bank; the food bank checked the quality of the cans and will make sure they are given to families in need. As this project progresses, more collection dates will be set up. Key Club was able to help publicize Spoon Fed Care’s collection date during the February monthly meeting and PESH Key Club hopes to continue working with them to build a better world one step at a time.

“Spoon Fed Care won’t stop at Plano East,” says the group - they are currently working on a website that will include interviews, recipes, and a tracker for the number of cans donated so far! Key Clubbers have already started to submit recipes using canned food that will soon be featured on Spoon Fed Care’s website. Similar to the collaboration with Spoon Fed Care, Plano East Key Club is always open to supporting individual or group service projects - feel free to message any of the officers via Remind or e-mail. The officers are always checking the suggestions form as well.

Key Club has been part of my academic and highschool life since freshman year. It has been important to my friend group as well. It has also allowed me to develop a unique sense of selflessness that is special to Key Club members. The PESH key club community is a true example of what it means to be a good citizen of the world.

MUSTAFA HAQUE How Key Club has impacted our lovely member!
Academically, Key Club has taught me to manage my time. Volunteering is a time consuming activity that requires a lot of our valuable time. Volunteering is one of the best ways to use this valuable time. However, there are other ways I need to use time. Studying, schoolwork, my part time job, all of these activities require time. So it is important that we manage time wisely. That way we can

do everything to the best of our ability. Key club has definitely helped me learn some of those valuable skills. My friend groups and relationships have also benefited from Key Club. One of the first times all of my friends got together was at a key club meeting. We really enjoyed completing the service project together. From then on, we met up almost every weekend and talked and did something together. We have gotten to know each other extremely well all thanks to Key Club. Key Club has also taught me how to be bigger than myself. I enjoyed these projects that the key club would have us complete. I was so moved by some of them that I felt compelled to take on my own projects outside of school and Key Club. For example, I started volunteering with a massive humanitarian organization known as Islamic Relief. I write blog posts and bring awareness to issues that affect some of the world’s most needy people. I also picked up a project with the North Texas Red Cross. I work on an IHL campaign to bring awareness to the issue of education in places torn by war. This sort of idea that I need to work on things bigger than myself came about as a result of my activity in Key Club. THE KEY POINTS | 13
NEXT STEPS FOR 2021-2022 KEY CLUB OFFICERS
The Key Club Officer Team this year!
As the end of the 2020-2021 school year approaches, the senior officers are making preparations to pass on their leadership positions to the underclassmen. During the February meeting, Key Clubbers were informed to be on the lookout for the officer applications. We plan to release the applications shortly after the monthly meeting on March fifth. THE KEY POINTS | 14
Currently, the officers are in the process of preparing the applications for an online format in addition to organizing which positions are open for candidates. In the past, application packets were handed out during meetings and posted on the website to print out and turn in on a specific due date. Then interviews were conducted throughout the next month before
school, during lunch, and after school and the officers along with our sponsor elected the next officers for the school year. Since this year’s process will be online only, the format of the application and interviews will take place accordingly. To be eligible for an officer position, you must be in the ninth, tenth, or eleventh-grade levels; we strongly encourage ninth and tenth graders to apply! There are no requirements for an officer position other than being a part of Key Club for the past year, we are open to speaking to individuals about their circumstances as well
(feel free to Remind or email the officers if you are concerned). The timeline of officer elections this year will be as follows: midMarch, release officer applications online through Google Classroom; late March, release interview times and Zoom links to candidates; early April, finalize 2021-2022 Plano East Key Club officers; mid-April, announce the officer team of the 2021-2022 school year at the monthly meeting.
We hope to see a large number of applicants this year!

What are service hour requirements?
When and where are meetings held?
How do I turn in service hours?
If I miss a meeting, are there makeups?
The link to submit service hours will be sent out monthly on Remind and Google Classroom. The Google Form will keep track of how many hours you have completed everytime you enter a new activity in.
There are no makeup meetings, but join the Google Classroom to view the slides for the meeting you missed and ask questions through Remind! Make sure you complete the required service activity as well.
Do winter break hours count towards the 12 hours?

Yes! All hours you got from winter break count towards this semester's 12 hours.

12 hours are to be submitted via Google Form this Fall Semester, you can have a maximum of 3 donation hours.
