Varying your Pitch Shots Around the greens try to vary your clubs when playing pitch shots, a common fault with some golfer is the tendency to use only one club eg there pitching wedge or sand wedge, which is fine when you need to get the ball airborne with a soft landing on the green. If you are not confronted with a hazard or steep bank in front of you another good option is to use a 7/8 iron, these clubs have less loft and a straighter face than your wedges. When using these clubs adopt the same method you would use on your putting stroke, keeping the wrists firm, positioning the ball in the middle of your stance with the body leaning slightly towards the target, with the feeling that the swing is controlled by the shoulders and arms. Whatever pitch shot you require around the green a good point is to remember is to maintain your rhythm, ensure the back swing is the same length as your follow through do not get into the habit of swinging to far back then decelerate in the downswing due to the short distance the ball has to travel. Hopefully by using a variation of clubs around the greens this will help you become more consistent and lower your scores.
