Managing Your Game During The Dry Conditions During this recent spell of hot weather you will notice how firm and baked the fairways have become. For club golfers especially on holes over 400yards long who are used to using a driver, don’t be reluctant about taking your 3 wood or a driving iron as the ball will travel just as far as your driver would in normal conditions due to the firmness of the fairways, take this into account on holes especially with doglegs or fairway bunkers where trouble awaits if the ball travels too far. The same applies around the greens where the surrounds are just as firm,the leading edge of your wedge and sand wedge will have a tendency to bounce on the firm ground so (unless a hazard is in front of you) where loft is required on your shot, use a 7/8 iron and adopt a pitch and run shot which will be a safer shot to execute in the firm dry conditions .
