SEASON 2023 LET THE FUN BEGIN!
Perth Symphony Orchestra is a proud collaborator with our First Nations artists – wonderful and talented musicians such as Phil Walleystack, pictured here performing in PSO’s String Sessions in October, 2022.
Perth Symphony Orchestra acknowledges the Whadjuk people of Noongar boodja, traditional custodians of the land in which we work, live and make music upon.
We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
WELCOME
It is with great pride that I welcome you to Perth Symphony Orchestra’s first ever annual season program. In a final gift to the orchestra that she founded, Creative Director Bourby Webster has curated a year of musical experiences that speaks to the heart of why this organisation was created.
With concerts that celebrate the best of West Australian talent and performance venues that span concert halls to hay bale amphitheatres, Perth Symphony continues its ground-breaking work in smashing barriers and providing some of the most diverse orchestral experiences around the globe.
The achievement of our first annual season would not be possible without the fantastic support of the companies and individuals who share our vision and passion to connect and inspire every West Australian through music.
We thank Principal Partner, Minderoo Foundation for their leadership and longstanding commitment, Founding Partner Warburton and Patron Tim Roberts, and the many companies, foundations and individuals who have contributed to support the evolution of our orchestra.
We invite you to come on a journey with Perth Symphony as we push the boundaries of orchestral music into a brand new era.
CATHERINE HENWOOD CEO
CREATIVE MESSAGE
Creating a program for Perth Symphony for the first time has been a huge undertaking but one I have relished. Programing for an orchestra whose aspiration is to reach every Western Australian with relevant, meaningful, engaging music is a massive yet rewarding challenge.
Our commitment to showcasing WA talent is loud and clear with our String Sessions series, and our classical program is far reaching. Music & Art: Kathleen O’Connor brings an under-recognised WA artist’s worldly story to life; and the music of Handel is celebrated by candlelight in a marvellous collaboration with Aquinas Scholar Cantorum.
Watch an orchestra morph into an awe-inspiring rock beast as we pay tribute to one of the biggest bands of all time, the legendary INXS. We continue our mission to take music out of the concert hall as we showcase our dazzling electric string quartet INNEKA at The Court Hotel.
Our Narrogin Hay Bales concert promises to be a memorable collaboration between local and professional musicians. Performed under the stars in an arena of hay bales, this concert will celebrate the wonder and joy of music-making and its ability to touch hearts in every corner of our vast State.
Finally, we bring the year home with our annual tradition
The Snowman, showing that music is and always will be, the most magical and memorable way to bring any story to life.
Join this remarkable orchestra for our first-ever annual program as we explore diverse genres, programs and venues, and through the talent of our musicians, we will become connected through music in the most extraordinary way.
