2024 Annual Giving Appeal

Whether it’s trying new foods or cooking together, food brings people closer through shared experiences.

Food is our common ground. A powerful medium for cultural exchange that unites people worldwide. Sharing a meal can foster understanding and appreciation for the beauty and assortment of our food cultures and people.

“Food is a great equaliser, it builds friendships, diversity, the kitchen is the heart of the home. Our students start working separately, by the end of the session, they’re all at one table sharing what they’ve learnt, food they’ve made, and different groups of friendships form.”

Food Technology Kitchen: inspiring curiosity, collaboration, and connection.

The Perth College Foundation Annual Giving Appeal 2024 focus is to ‘upgrade’ the Food Technology Kitchen.

THE FOOD TECHNOLOGY KITCHEN AT PERTH COLLEGE IS A MULTI-PURPOSE AND FLEXIBLE LEARNING SPACE.

Our kitchen inspires our students to be interested in food, science, technology, health, wellbeing, collaborative learning, and healthy eating. It educates students on a range of skills including horticulture food hygiene and preparation, cooking, vocations and enterprise - subjects cover both indoor and outdoor learning.

“Our Food Technology class is a happy place where ingredients become stories, recipes become lessons and every bite is a celebration. It feeds our stomachs and our curiosity!“

— Lola Affleck

Year 11 Food Science & Technology

“Food Technology at Perth College helps me learn about the nutrition I need to function and teaches me about the food that fuels my body. I want to be a nutritionist when I’m older, so learning about the nutrients in different meals help expand my knowledge and prepare me for university and my career.”

— Emilee Grainger Year 11 Food Science & Technology

“I love doing Food Technology because I like to be creative. I get to use my problemsolving skills to create different approaches to plating which I really enjoy. I am grateful I get the opportunity to do Food Technology because I have learned about so many new ingredients to cook and the correct techniques of cooking them. I know it will help me in the future because I am learning things that are useful for when I grow up and live independently.”

— Mirae Unicomb

ANNUAL GIVING APPEAL | 3

Kitchen Upgrade Recipe: bringing people together, one ingredient at a time.

Our kitchen is where ingredients are transformed and flavours are elevated – it breeds innovation, creativity, and ultimately, culinary delights.

The Food Technology Kitchen is a place of experimenting and learning, mistakes are not failures, but opportunities for improvement and growth.

From homestyle cooking to ‘hospitality’ style cooking, courses offered include:

• Breakfast on the go

• Culinary Creators

• Be Our Guest

• Café Culture

• Food Science and Technology

“It is a supreme privilege to share with students the joy of food. The nourishment it provides, the conversations it sparks, the connections it forges – there is nothing quite as unifying as sharing a meal, albeit one the students have learnt to create themselves! Our approach to Food Technology at Perth College is one that celebrates diverse cuisines and cultures, encourages students to collaborate and create with one another and provides a safe space for divergent thinking, improvisation and fun. Everyone can experience success in the Food classroom.”

Great cooking is not just about following a recipe; it’s about trusting your instincts and embracing creativity.
