reihen. Ein robust gebauter Mann umarmt ein riesiges Konstrukt. So scheint es zumindest: zur Seite gebeugt, rechte Hand obendrauf, linke Hand irgendwo darunter. Bequem sieht das nicht aus. Dann macht er eine ruck artige Bewegung, richtet sich auf und präsentiert eine riesige Nadel in seiner Hand. „Da! Geschafft“, sagt er schnaufend, aber mit zufriedenem Ausdruck. Jetzt wird klar, dass er ein schillerndes Stück Stoff, den Bezug, über das Konstrukt spannt. Guido heißt der Mann. Er ist Polstermeister und leitet die hauseigene Produktion. Derrière apparaît un hall inondé de lumière où se mêlent des bribes de conversation, des rires et le cliquetis des « Attention, s’il vous plaît ! », crie quelqu’un en manoeuvrant un grand chariot chargé de tissus pour l’amener vers l’une des tables de garnissage qui s’alignent le long de la baie vitrée. Un homme solidement charpenté enlace une imposante structure. C’est du moins l’impression qu’il donne : penché sur le côté, sa main droite posée sur le dessus et sa la main gauche quelque part en dessous. Cette position semble assez inconfortable. Puis il fait un mouve ment brusque, se redresse et dévoile une immense aiguille dans sa main. « Voilà, c’est fait ! », ditil en haletant, mais avec une expression de satisfac tion. On se rend alors compte qu’il est en train de tendre un morceau de tissus, la housse, sur la structure. Cet homme s’appelle Guido. Il est maître tapissier garnisseur et dirige la production interne. Un ancrage solide dans l’artisanat de la tapisserie d’ameublement, un esprit tourné vers l’avenir Johann Bretz a fondé l’entreprise en 1895. Depuis, chaque meuble rembourré qui quitte la manufacture de Gensingen, dans la Hesse rhénane, est une pièce unique conçue à la main. Une passion à toute épreuve et une bonne dose de courage ont permis à l’entreprise familiale de résister à long terme aux défis de l’histoire, de la destruction totale de l’usine pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale jusqu’à la crise de 1986 pendant les années de récession, suivie du sauvetage de l’entreprise par les frères Norbert et Hartmut Bretz l’année suivante. En 2010, la fille de Hartmut a rejoint l’entreprise en tant que designer. À l’époque, Carolin ne savait pas encore qu’elle développerait une telle passion ni qu’elle façonnerait un jour non seulement les produits, mais aussi la culture d’entreprise et l’avenir de Bretz. Depuis 2018, elle partage la direction de l’entreprise avec son oncle Norbert.

Mettre tout son coeur, son esprit et son énergie dans le progrès « Nous sommes une authentique entreprise familiale avec une longue tradition », explique Carolin. « Nous avons à coeur de préserver des valeurs telles que la cohésion, le respect et la confiance. Cela implique également une culture du débat ouvert et une approche constructive des différents points de vue. Nous considérons nos collègues comme des membres à part entière de notre environnement familial élargi. Certains nous accompagnent depuis des décennies. Nous en sommes fiers et cela nous prouve que nous sommes engagés dans la bonne voie. » Maria en est un parfait exemple : elle a commencé sa carrière chez Bretz en 1976 en tant que couturière et dirige aujourd’hui le service couture et découpe. « J’adore mon travail », affirmetelle avec sincérité. « Nous nous traitons à la fois avec respect et familiarité. Je connais mon collègue Guido depuis plus de quarante ans et nous travaillons en parfaite harmonie. La route qui mène au produit fini est parfois pavée de nuits blanches et de recommen cements, mais aussi d’échanges d’idées. Même lorsque les esprits s’échauffent, nous trouvons ensemble le moyen de rendre possible ce qui semble impossible. Ici, chacun donne le meilleur de luimême. » Des meubles qui invitent au voyage La concrétisation des valeurs de l’entreprise ne s’arrête pas à un emploi plus équitable. Pour des raisons éthiques, Bretz a totalement renoncé aux produits d’origine animale, comme le cuir ou le duvet. Depuis les années 1990, les tissus en velours aux couleurs vives et chatoyantes sont consi dérés comme sa marque de fabrique par excellence. Les textiles triés sur le volet proviennent d’Italie, d’Allemagne et de Belgique. En ce qui concerne la créativité, Bretz ne s’impose aucune limite. Pauline, designer, décrit parfois le style des meubles comme « maximaliste, éclectique et fantaisiste ». L’expérimentation avec les dimensions et les stéréotypes qui repousse sans cesse les limites peut être interprétée comme une philosophie latente, rebelle, mais aussi ludique. « Il est clair que Bretz polarise », assure Pauline. « Mais nos meubles ont une chose en commun : chacun raconte sa propre histoire, stimule l’imagination et réunit deux thématiques essentielles de la vie, qui sont pourtant fondamentalement opposées. L’aspiration à de lointaines contrées s’oppose au désir de se sentir en sécurité. Lorsque les deux trouvent leur place, le quotidien se remplit d’une magie qui ne cesse de nous inspirer. »

Dieser organischen Perfektion gehen viel Handarbeit und Geduld voraus: Um den ambitionierten Schnitt zu realisieren – sanft eingezogen, mal über Kante, mal gerundet, glatt, aber nicht zu straff – fordert jede Stoffraute besondere Zuwendung. Moonraft lädt dazu ein, zurückzutreten und aus der stillen Distanz die Welt zu betrachten. Das Polsterkonzept ist inspiriert vom Raumanzug, der im All konstanten Luftdruck hält. Nur eine kühne Neuentwicklung kann diese Illusion schaffen: In aufwändiger Handarbeit wird der Polsterstoff zu Kammern vernäht und darin wiederum Inletts eingebettet. Auf die Fächer der Inletts verteilt sich dann gleichmäßig eine Füllung aus PolsterMaterie. Moonraft interpretiert die physikalischen Gesetze neu und beschert ein Sitzgefühl zwischen Schwerkraft und Schwerelosigkeit.
Moonraft invites you to step back and view the world from a quiet distance. The sofaconcept is inspired by a spacesuit which keeps up a constant air pressure in the universe. Only a bold new development could create such an illusion: carefully handcrafted, the cover is being sewn together into chambers in which inlets have been put. In those

Le concept de rembourrage s’inspire des combinaisons spatiales qui maintiennent une pression constante dans l’espace. Seul un audacieux développement peut créer cette illusion. Un travail manuel colossal consiste à coudre le rembourrage en cellules, où sont encore aménagés des coutils. Sur les surfaces des coutils, une garniture de rembourrage est répartie de façon homogène. Moonraft réinterprète les lois de la physique et offre une sensation d’assise à michemin entre la pesanteur et l’apesanteur.

Cocoa Island has old traditions meet new standards. Whether it is a very small room or a very large one – the new modular version of the Chesterfield sofa always looks majestic. The reasons for that are the unconventional dimensions as well as the angled backrest. The cover unfolds its radiance in the truest sense of the word: Around the buttons, which were sewn on by hand, folds appear which remind of beams coming off a planet. That way, a soft interplay between light and shadow comes alive which, by the way, also feels heavenly.

Its trademark is the hand made cassette stitching which follows a 33 cm grid. The modular system offers more than 150 possible combinations – with three seating depths and three widths for the elements (cuboid to cuboid) it becomes an individual sofa solution. The velour fibers fan out over the curves and thus cast slight shadows. That is how the human eye catches the snugness of Ocean 7 from miles away.

This smart coffee table integrates or stands out, is quiet or loud, since its pedestal can wear any cover you like. El Trio is made out of three upholstered cylinders, which overlap and have a slim, semi transparent slap made of glass. A circular impression in the center of the table
