SUMMER GARDEN PARTY TIME

It’s time to throw your best garden party yet.

Summer is here, which means now is the perfect time to throw a garden party. However, planning and organising a successful garden party can be a daunting task. Fortunately, with a few key steps, you can host a garden party that your guests will remember fondly for years to come. Here are some tips to get you started...

CHOOSE THE RIGHT DATE AND TIME

When choosing a date and time for your garden party, check the weather forecast in advance. Ideally, you want a day with plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Weekends are often the preferred choice, but keep in mind that they may be more crowded and expensive. Afternoon parties are typically easier to plan and may include finger foods and afternoon tea, while evening parties offer a chance to create a more formal atmosphere and include full meals.

MAKE SURE YOUR GARDEN IS PARTY-READY

Before you send out invitations, make sure your garden is up to the task. Trim any overgrown hedges, tidy up flower beds and lawns, and clear any clutter or debris that could impact your visitors’ ability to move freely about the space. If you have any garden ornaments that you’d like to display, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase them.

PLAN YOUR DECORATIONS

When decorating your garden party, don’t go overboard - simple, well-placed decorations work best. Scatter some flowers or foliage on the tables, add some string lights and lanterns in the trees and bushes, and perhaps even set up a photo booth area with props to encourage your guests to capture the moment.

DECIDE ON YOUR MENU

A garden party is the perfect opportunity to serve up some summery treats for your guests. Consider finger foods such as bite-sized sandwiches, sausage rolls, and cheese and crackers. If you’re planning a more formal evening party, you could serve up some more substantial dishes such as barbequed meats with sides like salads or baked potatoes. Don’t forget to cater for dietary requirements - having some vegetarian and vegan options available will be much appreciated.

BE PREPARED FOR THE WEATHER

Even though the forecast says sunshine, it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the British weather. Have a plan B in case of rain - a marquee or indoor space will do the trick. It’s also a good idea to have some blankets available for guests to use if there is a chill in the air.

By following these tips, you’re sure to throw a stunning garden party that your guests will be talking about for months to come.

KEEPING COOL IN THE HOT WEATHER

Keep yourself and the whole family cool during the summer months.

Summer can be an exciting time - holidays, planned events, visiting friends in the pub garden - but, it’s important to remember to keep cool. Overheating can be dangerous and unpleasant, so it’s important to take steps to stay comfortable in hot temperatures. Here are some effective tips on how to keep cool during the summer time...

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Staying hydrated is critical when it comes to beating the heat. Always carry a water bottle with you and drink regularly throughout the day, especially during the hottest hours.

WEAR LIGHT CLOTHING

Cotton and other lightweight, breathable fabrics are ideal for summer. Choose light colors and loose-fitting clothing that allows air to circulate around your skin.

USE SUNSCREEN

Sunburn not only increases the risk of skin cancer, it’s also a surefire way to get overheated. Apply sunscreen liberally before going outside, and reapply regularly, especially after spending time in the water.

STAY INDOORS

If the heat outside is too much to bear, stay indoors during peak hours, particularly in the afternoon. Make sure your home is properly insulated and ventilated to keep it cool.

TAKE A COOLING SHOWER OR BATH

A quick cold shower or bath can provide relief from the heat and help to lower your body temperature. You can also try placing a damp towel around your neck or on your forehead to cool down.

PLAN YOUR ACTIVITIES

Choose your activities wisely and avoid strenuous exercise or prolonged outdoor activities during the hottest times of day.

USE FANS OR AIR CONDITIONING

Fans can help to circulate air and make a room feel cooler. If you have air conditioning, set it to a comfortable temperature and ensure it’s properly maintained.

EAT LIGHT, COOL FOODS

Avoid heavy meals and eat fresh, light foods like salads, fruits, and vegetables. These foods not only keep you cool, but they also provide essential nutrients and hydration to your body.

By following these tips, you can stay cool and comfortable throughout the summer. Remember to prioritise your health and safety in hot temperatures, and don’t hesitate to take a break or seek medical attention if you feel unwell.

Why use FISKS?

The industry has changed hugely with the development of digital technology - this has created two different styles of agency, the traditional high street agency, and the modern online agency. At Fisks, we believe that the best solution is to be both.

5 DOWNSIZING TIPS

Make your life easier by reading our downsizing tips.

START EARLY

Downsizing can be an overwhelming task if you wait until the last minute. Starting early and taking a gradual approach to downsizing can make the process much more manageable. Begin by decluttering your current home and donating or selling items that you no longer need.

DETERMINE YOUR PRIORITIES

Before you begin your search for a new home, make a list of your priorities. Decide what features and amenities are essential to your lifestyle and what you can live without. This will help you focus your search and find a home that meets your needs.

CONSIDER YOUR NEW SPACE

Once you have determined your priorities, consider how your new space will accommodate your belongings. Measure your furniture and other large items to ensure they will fit in your new home. If you are downsizing significantly, you may need to sell or donate some of your belongings, as mentioned above.

Downsizing your property can be a great way to reduce costs, minimise maintenance and simplify your lifestyle. Whether you are an empty nester looking to move to a smaller home or a young professional seeking a more affordable living space, downsizing requires careful planning and preparation...

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL

If you are struggling to downsize on your own, consider hiring a professional organiser or downsizing specialist. These professionals can help you sort through your belongings, decide what to keep and what to sell or donate, and even help with packing and moving.

TAKE YOUR TIME

Downsizing is a major life change, and it’s important to take your time and make the right decisions. You should always do your research, visit potential new homes, and even chat to friends and family for advice on the subject.

Downsizing your property can be a great way to simplify your lifestyle and reduce expenses. By following these tips, you can downsize successfully and enjoy the benefits of a smaller, more manageable home. Contact Fisks today and start your search.
