Welcome to the October edition of our Gateway magazine.

The Autumn season has now truly arrived with temperatures heading downwards. The nights are drawing in but Buyers are still viewing in the early evening. Gardens are an important feature and when presenting a property to a Buyer during the Winter months, the early nights restricting the Buyer’s view of the Garden is an issue, which may require a second viewing during daylight hours. We, of course, will always make ourselves available to accommodate the seasonal obstacles which we can all do nothing about.

On 21st October, Zooey Deschanel is back and voicing Bridget, a female troll. From the creators of Shrek comes the most smart, funny, irreverent animated comedy of the year, DreamWorks’ Trolls. Set for release on 21st October, enter a colourful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters and discover the story of the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomach.

Featuring original music from Justin Timberlake, the film stars the voices of Zooey alongside Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand, James Corden, Icona Pop and Gwen Stefani. DreamWorks’ Trolls is a fresh, broad comedy filled with music, heart and hairraising adventures. This month, nothing can prepare you for the new Troll world.

Based on the dolls of the same name by Thomas Dam, it is directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn. The plot revolves around two trolls who are on a quest to save their village from destruction. Produced as the 33rd animated feature by DreamWorks Animation, it’s expected to be a huge hit for people of all ages.

in 1999, it wasn’t until the 2000’s that she became famous for her deadpan comedy roles in films such as The Good Girl, Elf, Yes Man and 500 Days of Summer. Since 2011, Zooey has also played Jessica Day in sitcom New Girl, for which she has received an Emmy Award nomination and three Golden Globe Award nominations.

But what motto does Zooey live by? “You have to keep reminding yourself it’s not about money, because there is a lot of money to be made in this business if you’re willing to do whatever. But that’s not what I’m thinking about. I continue only to take movies because I love the script and because I really want to do it.”

Often described as ‘girlie’, Zooey doesn’t agree with the way Hollywood portrays girlie girls. “I think you can still be girlie and maintain power. I’m going to wear whatever I want to wear, because I’m expressing myself and I deserve that right. You’re not demeaning yourself by acting girlie. I think the fact that people are associating being girlie with weakness - that needs to be examined.

Canvey Island

Spooky Spider Cupcakes

Sausage Mummy Dippers

Ingredients: 200g butter 200g golden caster sugar 4 eggs ½ tsp. baking powder

Ingredients: 1 tbsp. honey 1 tbsp. ketchup 2 tsp. yellow mustard 12 chipolatas Tube of ready to roll croissant pastry

1 tsp. vanilla extract 6 tbsp. chocolate chips 2 packs of liquorice Catherine Wheels 12 tbsp. Nutella Liquorice allsorts 1 length of red bootlace sweet Heat the oven to 180C and line a muffin tin with 12 cases. Put the butter, sugar, eggs, baking powder, vanilla and flour in a mixing bowl. Beat until smooth and creamy. Stir in the chocolate drops and spoon the mixture into the cases, baking for 25 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. To decorate, unravel the liquorice wheels and cut into lengths making dangly legs, sticking 8 on each cake. Spoon the chocolate spread on top and spread lightly within the liquorice legs to make a round spider’s body. Use the other sweets to make eyes and mouths and enjoy.

Frozen Banana Ghosts Ingredients: 200g white chocolate 4 bananas 85g desiccated coconut Handful of chocolate drops Melt the white chocolate and set aside. Peel the bananas and cut in half, pushing a lolly stick into the middle of each. Using a pastry brush coat each banana half in the chocolate, sprinkling into coconut. Now add the chocolate drops to make eyes and freeze for at least 4 hours. Enjoy for up to a week.

Heat the oven to 200C and brush a baking tray with oil. Mix the honey, ketchup and mustard together, and then brush over the sausages.

Unroll the croissant dough and divide into 3 rectangles. Pinch together the diagonal perforated seams, then cut into long thin strips – you should get about 16 per rectangle. Wind the croissant strips around the chipolatas, leaving a little gap at one end to make a slit for the eyes.

Place on baking trays and bake for 20 mins. Using the mustard, dot a pair of little yellow eyes on to each mummy. Enjoy warm.

Eyeball Pasta Ingredients: 100g cherry tomatoes 150g mini mozzarella balls Handful of basil 400g spaghetti 350g jar of tomato sauce 4 tbsp. fresh pesto Halve the tomatoes and remove the seeds. Half the mozzarella balls and place into the tomato halves. Scrunch up a tiny piece of basil and stick into the mozzarella to form pupils. Boil the pasta and heat the tomato sauce. When the pasta is cooked, drain and stir through the pesto. When serving, spoon over the sauce and arrange the stuffed eyeballs.
