Welcome to the March edition of our Gateway magazine.

Spring has definitely arrived. The weather is changing for the better, as is the housing market. Easter is just around the corner and with it, the promise of Summer.

Spring has traditionally been the Government’s budget time and notwithstanding the various forecasts by so-called ‘experts’ on the budget content, we will not really know what is in the Chancellor’s mind and how any proposals will affect the housing market until after the speech is over. The smart money is on the Chancellor leaving the property market alone; even though the property industry has lobbied hard against the recent changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax. There is now plenty of evidence that the current rates have adversely affected the top end of the market; by which I mean £1million plus.

The current demand remains strong. In Canary Wharf the market has reacted to the current supply as more and more tower blocks come on the street.

In Essex the demand for one and two bedroom flats to buy, remains strong coupled with two bedroom bungalows and three bedroom semidetached houses. This segment in the market is generating sustained, well qualified enquiry.

Disney’s DONE IT AGAIN

Famous for his roles in The Hobbit, Fast and Furious 6 and most recently The Girl on the Train, Luke Evans seems to be the name on everyone’s lips. What’s more, the Welsh actor’s career seems to be going from strength to strength as later this month he will star in a Disney classic.

In April 2014, it was reported that Walt Disney Pictures would begin developing a new live-action version and remake of Beauty and the Beast after making other remakes of fantasy films such as Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and The Jungle Book. Finally, nearly two years later, on 17th March, Beauty and the Beast will be released, directed by Bill Condon. One for all to enjoy, we can’t wait to see what has been made of the family favourite.

in many of London’s West End productions such as Rent, Miss Saigon and Piaf, he eventually got his Hollywood break starring in the Clash of the Titans 2010 remake, playing Apollo. Following his debut, the London resident was cast in other action and thriller films like Immortals, The Raven and The Three Musketeers. Since 2013, the heartthrob has had roles in Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit and Dracula Untold.

Multi-talented, at the age of seventeen, Luke moved to Cardiff, where he studied under the supervision of Louise Ryan, an established singing coach. In 1997 he won a scholarship to The London Studio Centre and graduated in 2000. It wasn’t until the age of 30 that he secured his first film audition – so there’s still some hope for the rest of us!

Luke will star as Gaston alongside Dan Stevens, Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor and Emma Thompson to name a few. In the musical film, Belle is taken prisoner by a fearsome Beast in his enchanted castle and learns to look beyond his appearance while evading a narcissistic hunter who seeks to take Belle for himself.

He’s certainly had a successful career yet what is Luke’s motto? “Being an actor, you have to take the rough with the smooth and the highs with the lows. That’s how it is…

When I left school, I got a job in a shoe shop and I used to save 15 quid a week and pay for my own singing and acting lessons… I felt alive when I read a script and acted out a scene, or sang a song. It was my dream. I’m just very lucky that I’m still doing it and able to earn a living from it.”

The musical film shouldn’t be a problem for 37-year old Luke however as he began his career on stage. Appearing

Conservatories, a garden house or a shed at the bottom of the garden – whatever you choose, an extra living area away from the hustle and bustle of family life can not only look great but is also a perfect place for relaxing in. A garden room is a great way to give your home a new lease of life. If you’re craving extra space at home and have the ability and budget to extend out into your garden, go for it!

A classic conservatory is a popular choice but contemporary conservatory designs can work well even for period houses. Glass conservatories look effortlessly chic and by installing solar panels your property can make the most of the suns rays. If your home has limited space then a lean-to-conservatory is the best option as they make the most of the space at the side of a house.

Alternatively, opt for an orangery, which is more substantial than a conservatory. Usually made from brick to match the existing property, orangeries are the perfect solution for kitchen/diners.
