Welcome to the March edition of our Gateway magazine.

It is hard to believe that Easter is just around the corner. All the activity in the market generated by Buyers and Sellers in December and January is now coming to Completion with the legal profession under pressure to move people into their new homes by the Good Friday deadline.

Easter is second only to Christmas as a deadline that home movers set; important dates that are set into their diary for completely understandable reasons. This year, there is additional stress on the legal system due to the pressure on lawyers to complete transactions that would otherwise leave the new purchaser with an additional Stamp Duty Land Tax of 3%. The only saving grace is that this year there are three full business days between the end of the Easter weekend and April 1st.

Rightmove continues to release interesting housing market statistics. Last week, Benfleet was highlighted as an area where property was being sold within days of listing. We were asked by the local newspaper; the Echo, ‘why Benfleet?’ For the full story, look at our Facebook page and make sure you become a Fisks friend.

Finally, we are always being asked what will happen to the market after the 1st April. Undoubtedly, some of the froth will melt away; just like the snow in Spring.

However, the current buoyant activity will continue as long as the lenders continue to make mortgages available for Buyers and there is stock to meet the demand.

April will see the return of a huge golfing tournament in the form of the 80th edition of the Masters Tournament. Taking place on 7th – 10th April in Georgia, professional golfers will flock from afar to compete in hope of winning the title. One of these being 26 year-old Irish born, Rory McIlroy.

Augusta which would complete the Northern Irishman’s ‘Grand Slam’ set of all four majors after winning the competition in 2008, 2014 and 2015. Rory has already emerged victorious in a number of majors on the PGA Tour. He’s won the PGA Championship, Britain’s Open Championship and the U.S. Open

A member of both the European and PGA Tours, Rory is a four-time major champion and was world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking for 95 weeks. He is the first European to win three different majors, and alongside Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods is one of three to win three majors by the age of 25.

The 26-year-old put the finishing touches on his 2015 campaign when he won the DP World Tour Championship. It was touch and go but ultimately ended on a high as Rory won by one shot, in Dubai last November.

With a successful amateur career under his belt, he turned professional when he was just 17 and has since gone on to represent Europe, Great Britain and Ireland in the sport. He was even named RTÉ Sports Person of the Year, in 2011 and 2014, for his individual and team efforts.

Rory has definitely got his eye on the prize this month however and says one of his priorities for 2016 is to win the Masters at

He will now try to emulate a number of professionals from all over the world but Rory doesn’t seem fazed by the competition. “Every time you go to Augusta, there’s a lot of hype. There was a lot of hype around myself last year and Tiger making a bit of a comeback.”

But what does Rory do when he isn’t competing? Train hard at the gym of course. “I want to try and get healthy and get stronger again, get my body back, because I haven’t been able to do as much in the gym as I would have liked over the past few months.”
