The Government’s consultation period over the new procedures that Estate Agents will have to undertake to comply with the Money Laundering Directive, ends this month. Up to now, Estate Agents have had to identify all Sellers, from the 21st June 2017 the new regulations will also require the identification of buyers. Will this deter terrorists and criminals? I think not. But this will mean more red tape to the process of buying a property as the buyer will be asked the same question by the Agent, the Mortgage Broker and Lender, together with the lawyer acting on the purchase. There should be a better way.

As if the world needed another Beyoncé, a few weeks ago we were blessed with the news that we were about to get two more. Taking to her official Instagram page, on 1st February, the talented singer wrote: “We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters.”

With over 9 million likes in the first hour, this announcement was a little more low-key than her first pregnancy announcement, which took place at the 2011 VMA’s and involved Beyoncé opening her jacket and rubbing her tummy during an incredible performance.

On 12th February, Beyoncé and bump performed at the Grammy Awards, whilst Blue and Jay-Z looked on from the crowd. This wasn’t a surprise however, as Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles let slip the star was still rehearsing for the performance. After working as his daughter’s manager, Matthew also called the pregnancy announcement, “smart,” and added: “I think it was a strategy. I think there’s more to come.” Later on in the month, she also won a Brit Award for International Female Solo Artist.

The 35-year old then delighted fans with a photo shoot of her naked bump to celebrate her good news, five years after the birth of her first child – Blue Ivy. Taken in black in white, one photo showed the expectant mother cradling her bump whilst another in colour, shows Beyoncé sitting in a throne surrounded by flowers and ivy – possibly a nod to her first daughter. She even brought Blue into some of the shots, kissing Beyoncé’s bare stomach. The original image used for the announcement soon racked up enough likes to be the most popular Instagram photo of all time.

However, under doctor’s orders, Beyoncé has pulled out of performing at California’s Coachella music, later this month.

The pregnant singer was due to top the bill at the annual festival in the California desert from 15th - 22nd April but organisers have said Beyoncé will headline the event in 2018 instead. The festival, which is based in Indio, hasn’t revealed who will replace her.

Design tips for small spaces

From clever storage solutions to simple room dividers, learn how to make the most of your tiny situation with these creative ideas4

Small spaces don’t need to lack creativity or design flair and in actual fact can have the biggest character of them all. To begin with if you have a small space, mirrors are your best friend. They open up a room, bounce natural light around and make the area seem bigger. Take the opposite wall from the source of light whether that is a door or window and mirror it. A collection of ornate mirrors hung on the wall is a great idea and looks elegant. It goes without saying that light colours will open a room whereas dark, bold colours will make a room feel smaller. Choose an atmospheric neutral colour and finish it with a rug in a similar tone.

Small kitchens can be the bane of any homeowner’s life but they don’t have to be. In a narrow kitchen, have as few upper cabinets as possible. If you haven’t got the space to store items then get rid. While regular kitchen cupboards are useful, there’s something eye-catching and appealing about open storage shelves. If your kitchen and dining area flow into one, separate them but keep the space open by adding a small wall divider. Plus, you can store pretty vases and glassware in the floor to ceiling shelves. If your kitchen backs on to the garden, coordinate your decking with the kitchen floor. By using this technique, your sight line goes to the space outside which in turn makes the room seem larger.

Downstairs toilets are also generally one of the smallest rooms. If you’re feeling brave, do something daring. Choose a large-scale wallpaper but make sure it isn’t a small, busy pattern. It has to be an open, graphic pattern that breaths with space between the repeats. Narrow wall shelves are an excellent way to store essentials in a stylish way and invest in some bon-bon jars to hold cottons balls etc.

Take the focus off the small architecture and beam it on an object — it can be anything from a piece of art, a plant or a funny family photo. Also, use small stacking side tables instead of big coffee tables, which eat up a room. Being able to move things around makes you feel less cramped and gives you more variety. Get creative with storage – think baskets under bed and wicker baskets on shelves to hide unsightly belongings. Make use of every inch of space but don’t over clutter as that will have a reverse effect. Any space can be enhanced with additional storage and under the stairs is always awkward extra space, waiting to be used.

Small spaces are often seen as a nuisance yet with the right design you can make the most of every area in your home. Remember they do say the best things come in small packages… n
