Welcome to the December edition of our Gateway magazine.

Now that Christmas is here, it’s a good time to look back on the Property Market for 2015. A market of fewer transactions than expected but steady price growth, due to the lack of properties for sale. The unexpected announcement from the Chancellor in the Autumn statement will accelerate the continuing upward price movement; at least until the Spring of next year. As with all major Tax changes – and this increase in Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is certainly that – this will distort the market for some time, even after the commencement date of the 1st April 2016.

The big question is whether this policy will achieve the desired result of assisting First Time Buyers by tilting the playing field in their direction, at considerable expense to Buy-To-Let Investors. Not forgetting, of course, purchasers of holiday and second homes. Only time will tell.

If the experience of the top-end of the London Market is a guide; then these SDLT increases will have an effect on the Residential Market.

On 1st January, Knight of Cups will screen in UK cinemas starring Natalie Portman. The American romantic fantasy film is written and directed by Terrence Malick and produced by Nicolas Gonda and Sarah Green.

It may sound like a challenge but surely Natalie will take it into her stride as she has done with various other roles. Appearing in Thor, The other Boleyn Girl, Black Swan and V for Vendetta, this film will just be another in a long line of film and stage credits.

The film may have a star-studded cast including Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and Jason Clark but production was everything but A-list. It was shot during the summer of 2012 without a completed story and even spent 2 years in post-production but fear not, the film is now completed and looks great. It was premiered at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival and was met with positive critique.

In 2010, the Israeli born American signed with Dior and appeared in several advertising campaigns as well as starring in numerous films. By February 2012, she had signed on for 2 Terrence Malick projects, one being Knight of Cups. Natalie then took to music and in April 2012, starred in Paul McCartney’s music video ‘My Valentine’.

The film tells the tale of a screenwriter who lives in Los Angeles and is trying to make sense of the strange events occurring around him. While he may be successful in his career, his life feels empty. Haunted by the death of one brother and the dire circumstances of the other, he finds solace in the Hollywood excess that defines his existence. As women provide a distraction to the daily pain he endures, every encounter that comes his way brings him closer to finding his purpose in life and his place in the world.

2015 has been a very busy year for the 34-year old actress who has worked on 3 films already including the Western film Jane Got a Gun, set for release in early 2016. Natalie already has 3 films planned and in May 2015, signed on to play the title character in Jackie, a biographical drama about 1960s American First Lady Jackie Kennedy, following the death of her husband, President John F Kennedy.

Knight of Cups will be released on New Years Day and we think 2016 will be another successful year for Natalie. n
