In 2049, San Francisco has tackled housing affordability and transportation challenges, embracing sustainable solutions.

However, emerging issues include the impact on jobs from evolving technologies, persistent social inequality, and the need for safe and inclusive public spaces. The city is in need of a dynamic hub to reunite cultures, communities, and individuals.

The authors of ‘Biblioteket i byudviklingen’ argue that libraries play a significant role in the strategic development of urban areas in three distinct roles related to place, space, and relations. [1] These roles could be related to the 3 scales - interior, building and urban scale, to help define goals at each level.

The new library typology operates as a dynamic learning machine, facilitating community education. Functioning as an open-source database, it compiles various types of knowledge data such as text, multimedia content, spatial information etc. evolving alongside expanding data. In this symbiotic process, the library transforms into a learning machine, continuously evolving to meet the needs and interests of its users.
