Dear members,
I hope you all have had a restful break after the long vacation I am so excited to welcome back current and new incoming members to CULS.
As we go into our 121st year of CULS, we have an array of events and initiatives for our members. We will be posting updates and reminders of all of the things to come this term so make sure you are following our social media pages and are signed up to our mailing list so you don't miss out!

Hugh Tomlinson KC is a barrister with a wide practice and is a founding member of Matrix Chambers. He has appeared in numerous high profile cases, including the recent 'Wagatha Christie' case, and is a noted specialist in media and information law. As part of our Speakers's Dinner Series, CULS members will have the opportunity to have dinner with Hugh Tomlinson after the event and ask him any questions in a more relaxed, intimate setting. The application form for this will be released shortly.
Location TBA 20th October

The panel will be themed around accessibility into the legal profession as well as the experiences of the panelists, with reference to current issues in the legal profession such as the recently announced indefinite strikes by criminal barristers.

CULS’s mentorship scheme is a wonderful opportunity to connect with people who were once in the same position as you. Our Alumni Department will partner up mentors and mentees with similar interests who can help each other to grow and learn. We highly encourage you to be both a mentor and a mentee. If you are a 1st or 2nd year student, sign up to be mentored by a student in the year above. 3rd year students will be paired up with an Alumnus. Whether you are interested in commercial law, the bar, business or further academia, the scheme has something for you. Don’t miss out!
We are excited to introduce our new alumni spotlight series. Throughout the year we will be posting about our inspiring alumni which will include testimonies and advice to our members. Stay tuned on our social media! A L U M N I

This year the Foreign Affairs Department have been working hard to plan for the first in person foreign exchange since the pandemic.
CULS is excited to be working together with Għaqda Studenti TalLiġi (Malta Law Students' Society) to offer an in-person exchange between the University of Malta and the University of Cambridge at the end of this term, the first in three years!
The trip is set to take place between 4th and 9th December, offering a unique insight into the way law is taught and practised in the University of Malta, with planned lectures at the university, and tours of court and parliament.
Alongside this legal focus, the exchange is also about having the chance to make friends and explore the culture of other countries.

Come along to learn about mooting procedure, get tips on your technique and witness a speed moot. This event is ideal for beginners, especially those participating in Fledglings, and Non-Law students wishing to get involved in moots this year
This Moot, sponsored by Quadrant Chambers, is an individual moot for beginners. Participants will not have had any prior mooting experience, making it perfect for freshers and non-law students. Moot problems are also only on first-year areas of law.
Cambridge mooters are invited to compete against representatives from the LSE

This is a team moot sponsored by Atkin Chambers Participants do not need to have prior mooting experience but teams must come from the same college Moot problems can be on any core area of law This year, the final will be held in Atkin Chambers and judged by members of this prestigious set
The 3VB is an advanced team moot sponsored by 3 Verulam Buildings Participants must form a team of 2 and both members should be from the same college. This year both the semi-final and final will be judged by barristers from 3VB, making this a great opportunity for aspiring barristers
