CAREERS EVENTS

Case Study Session

Come and join Slaughter and May’s Case Study Session where firm representatives will guide you through how to approach, analyse and understand a case study.

This event will be useful for anyone applying for a vacation scheme or training contract as the interview often involves a case study. It will also be helpful to anyone who wants to increase their commercial awareness - perhaps in order to excel on a first year scheme or vacation scheme.

There will also be an opportunity to network with Slaughter and May representatives over drinks and nibbles after the session.

WITH Commercial Awareness Presentation

Come and join Slaughter and May for their session on commercial awareness. Slaughter and May acts for more FTSE 100 companies than any other law firm, so you will be learning from leaders in this field.

Commercial awareness is a crucial skill for all law firm (and commercial bar) applications However, it is a somewhat elusive concept. This session will explain what commercial awareness is, how you can increase your awareness and how you can convey your commercial awareness in applications or vacation schemes.

This event will be particularly useful for first year law students who want to gain an understanding of what commercial awareness is in preparation for first year schemes or vacation scheme applications next year. It will also be very helpful to second year law students who will be attending vacation schemes or applying for training contracts.

Alternative Careers in the Law

The careers team have been working to curate a series of panel discussions, Q&As and networking sessions - all relating to an 'alternative career in the law'. This involves people who have studied law at university, or have trained to become a lawyer, but did not end up in a commercial law firm

This series seeks to challenge the idea that there is a particular place you need to be as a 'successful law student' (vacation scheme in second year with a training contract straight after graduation) and hopes to encourage more CULS members to explore all of their options before making a decision about their future

Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and mailing list for more information..
