PRESIDENT’S WELCOME Dear all, The warmest of welcomes to all returners, freshers and our new members! I hope you had a restful summer vacation. I’m delighted to present you with CULS’ Michaelmas Termcard 2026! As we head into the 125th year of CULS, we continue to have exciting plans in store. This year, we are staying true to our values of equipping you with the skills to excel in the legal profession, as well as widening the social impact of our initiatives. Our Michaelmas calendar is packed with skills-focused careers workshops for aspiring solicitors and barristers, social events where you can get to know different firms, and speaker events where you can interact with experts in the legal space. Brand new this year is our competitions department, who will expand CULS's advocacy programme to provide members with opportunities to develop the practical legal and commercial skills increasingly valued across the legal profession. Furthermore, we have various opportunities for you to get involved – from Per Incuriam submissions and essay competition, to pro bono subcommittee applications! We will have more hands-on pro bono opportunities such as a multi-university Legal Clinic initiative and our new Case Preparation Unit. Our revised mentorship scheme will enable you to strengthen your network within the Cambridge legal community as well, providing a holistic supporting environment. By continuing our partnerships with
iconic local brands in Cambridge we will also provide the best discounts to CULS members. It is important to us that CULS remains an accessible and inclusive space for all, where people come together and forge lifelong friendships. For our non-law members, our Non-Law Department will be organising various socials and panels where you can meet other CULS members and legal professionals with a non-law background. We will also be continuing access prices for our annual law ball, such that everyone gets an equal opportunity to attend. We will continue to post updates on our website, Instagram and Mailing List for all our events, so please do watch out for them! Finally, I want to express my sincerest gratitude and admiration to the CULS Main Committee, who have worked incredibly hard to make this term card possible, by coming up with new ideas and bringing them to fruition. I would also like to thank our sponsors for their generous support of our society, and their enthusiasm in supporting CULS members in their career aspirations. We look forward to meeting you all at our events this Michaelmas! Kind regards, Rayna Hon CULS President 2026-2027

FOREIGN AFFAIRS
FOREIGN AFFAIRS
We are delighted to announce the continuation of our highly popular Foreign Affairs Exchange Programme, now entering its fourth year of in-person exchanges since the pandemic. In recent years, CULS has partnered with leading student societies worldwide, including Maastricht University (2023/24), ELSA Austria at the University of Vienna (2024/25) and most recently IE University in Madrid (2025/26). Each exchange gives our members a unique opportunity to explore both the legal and cultural life of another country. Highlights from Madrid included attending a talk by an ECtHR judge , watching a Flamenco and visiting the Segovia campus. The programme is split into two parts: Cambridge students first travel abroad, and followed by us hosting our exchange partners here in Cambridge. With sponsored flights, accommodation, and a diverse itinerary, the exchange remains one of the most memorable experiences of the year.
This year, we will be partnering with The University of Malta! For any queries, please contact foreignaffairs@culs.org.uk.

COMPETITIONS
CULS Competitions is committed to promoting different avenues of alternative dispute resolution, and to give both law and non-law students the opportunity to develop legal skills beyond mooting. We aim to host a range of practical legal competitions throughout the academic year. These include negotiation, arbitration and commercial awareness competitions, such as drafting and other skills-based events designed to support students in their future careers.
COMPETITIONS
These competitions often reward everyday skills such as communication, persuasion and finding common ground, but to make them as accessible as possible for those trying them for the first time, we hope to run a dedicated competition for students trying negotiations for the first time. The branch also aims to establish opportunities for Cambridge students to compete in national and international competitions, including overseas negotiation and arbitration competitions. By supporting students to represent the University in these events, we hope to broaden access to competitive advocacy and strengthen Cambridge’s presence on the international stage. If you would like to get in touch, please contact us at competitions@culs.org.uk.
