We turned off Blaauwklippen Road and meandered along the country lane lined with rustic farm walls that leads to Keermont, where an idyllic valley at the foot of the mountains (farmed since the 18th century) opened up before us. Situated on a tree-shaded terrace, The Farmhouse looks onto a stunning vista of vineyards and fynbos, presided over by mountain peaks. Being in the midst of the winelands means that Keermont makes a perfect base from which to explore neighbouring estates such as Waterford, De Trafford, Kleinood and Dornier; not that you need to venture very far to taste wine – the estate’s tasting room is only a spitting (or spittoon’s) distance away down the hill, and the boutique vino is superb.
