Fire fundraiser a hit PEREGIAN Golf welcomed a new crowd on Friday, February 28 as more than 300 people turned out to raise money for the Rural Fire Brigade and enjoy pizza, a drink and a movie under the stars.

The top of the practice fairway became seating in the form of camp chairs and blankets for families keen to enjoy the balmy weather and watch Aladdin on the big inflatable screen.

Earlier in the night singer Samuel Jordan provided a great backdrop for the event, with Amore Pizza Company working frantically to keep up with demand for pizza from the crowd. Entry was by gold

coin donation and 20% of all food and drink sales on the night will be donated to the Sunshine Coast area via the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade Donations Fund.

Golf Services Management’s Ian Denny said $1398 was raised on the night, including $290 in gold coin donations.

He thanked Aveo for sponsoring the movie and said future movie nights were being considered.

He said in the meantime, the bar will be open and Amore will be back serving pizzas on Friday nights from March 13, starting at 5pm.

The year is marching along. In fact, since I went to the recent Division 9 Sunshine Coast Council Candidates Forum at the Golf Course in February, I realised it only seemed like yesterday I was at the last forum 4 years ago.

The last Sunshine Coast Council elections came at a time when the land next to Peregian Springs Shopping Centre had just been cleared, providing a focus for residents to tell that new Councillor how they would like to see the local area evolve over the next 4 years.

There have been a lot of changes in Peregian Springs and Peregian Breeze since then, including many hundreds of new residents, Ridges Multi Layered Body Corporate Scheme final lots for sale and the latest - Developer FKP Residential (a subsidiary of Aveo) being bought out by Canadian company Brooksfield, and so

the next 4 years will be the icing on the cake. With all of our unique area’s charms and challenges, what candidate you choose will help influence how palatable the finish of our local areas are and how digestible their futures will be for residents.

Meanwhile, for those interested in an update on the proposed Koel Circuit multi-storey unit complex, Council’s Development I website shows that the planners Pivotal Perspective have requested the time be stopped on their application until March 6 in order to receive responses on an easement issue raised by Council. Love, elephants and a sea change WHEN it comes to gifted writers it seems Peregian Springs is a haven for talent.

Author and Administrative Officer of the Romance Writers of Australia organisation Donna Munro, pictured right, joined the Peregian Springs community nearly a year ago.

On March 25 she will release her third novel, Elephant Creek, set on a property on the Currumbin Valley on the Gold Coast where it was rumoured circus elephants were sent to live for a while after exotic animals were banned from performing on the Gold Coast in the early 2000’s.

The book promises “steamy romantic suspense” as main character Emma is torn between dating “rockstar handsome” Wade or pursuing her

crush on “sexy, silent, probablymarried Noah”.

Munro, who lived in Sunshine Beach in her 20s before moving to Currumbin on the Gold Coast, has returned for a “quieter” seachange.

She hopes to starts offering writing classes in the area soon.

NINDERRY update: State Member Dan Purdie With the State Budget coming up at the end of this month, I am asking for your support to demand the State Government fund a much-needed traffic assessment to help bust congestion in Coolum.

Upgrading the roundabout at the Coolum State School has been one of my biggest priorities since I was elected, and I have spent the past two years lobbying the Government to fix it.

Last year, the Minister agreed to meet me onsite, where he saw the congestion and safety issues for himself, and as a result of that meeting, a three month traffic study was done.

Unfortunately, that study has shown that simply fixing the roundabout won’t improve the situation.

A full network assessment is needed first, and that is why I am calling on the State Government to allocate funds in the Budget.

No-one wants to see taxpayers money wasted on a band-aid solution that doesn’t actually bust the congestion. We need a solution now!

WORK START ON NEW $2.8M POLICE STATION It is fantastic to see work now underway on the new $2.8m Coolum Police Station.

FAIRFAX update: Federal Member Ted O’Brien GREEN THUMBS UP FOR ST ANDREW’S Irrigated raised garden beds, trellising, indigenous edible and medicinal plants, native insects and worm farms – you could be mistaken for thinking I’m referring to an episode of a gardening show.

But it’s actually what St Andrew’s Anglican College plans to spend its $19,000 Federal Government Local School’s Community Fund grant on.

PARLIAMENT RESUMES Of course Parliament has now resumed for the year and we opened the 2020 Parliament by putting aside the entire first day of formal business to pay tribute to those impacted by Australia’s black summer bushfire crisis.

Both Peregian Springs and Peregian Breeze residents experienced firsthand the fire threat and we will be forever grateful for the extraordinary commitment, skill and bravery of both our volunteer and professional firefighters, as well as to all other emergency service workers, charities and volunteers supporting our

communities through the threat and on into the rebuild.

NEXT STEPS FOR NUCLEAR In my role as Chair of the Standing Committee on Environment and Energy, I tabled the report into the prerequisites for introducing nuclear energy in Australia.

The recommendations in the report, entitled ‘Not without your approval: A way forward for nuclear technology in Australia’, has now been referred to the Federation Chamber for debate.

Local Government Elections March 28 - 2020

Five candidates for Division 9 WITH just over 20 days to go until we vote for our next local councillor in the March 28 local government elections Peregian Springs and Peregian Breeze residents have five candidates to choose from.

Daniel Bryar (Greens), and independent candidates Angela Dunbavan, Bruce Dunne, Daren Edwards and Maria Suarez have hit the campaign trail and are busy doorknocking the electorates to meet residents and understand the issues.

All of the candidates turned out for the Peregian Family & Friends organised Meet the Candidates event in February, taking turns to introduce themselves and to answer questions on topics suggested by the audience.

The event drew a crowd of about 80 people. Peregian Family and Friends also live streamed the event from their facebook page at www.facebook.com/ peregianfamilyandfriends/.

Who goes where on the ballot paper in each of the seats in the Council elections will be decided on March 4.

Early voting will start on March 16, 12 days before the election day itself on March 28.

If you are unable to vote in person or apply for a postal vote due to ill health, a disability, or you are a carer, you can register to vote by telephone before 12pm on Saturday, 28 March 2020 by calling 1300 881 665.

Postal vote applications close at 7pm Monday, 16 March 2020.

People can apply to receive a postal vote by either completing an application form online on the ecq.qld.gov.au website or downloading a postal vote application.

Voting must be completed by 6pm on 8

election day and the ECQ must receive your completed ballot no later than 5pm Tuesday, 7 April 2020.

ECQ will send postal votes after the ballot paper draw on Wednesday, 4 March 2020.

For the first time at a local election, all candidates in 2020 are required to complete an online candidate training module devised by the State Government to ensure they understand the responsibilities and obligations that go hand in hand with taking on a councillor role.

The training includes information such as obligations in relation to reporting donations and expenditure during the campaign as well as the requirement to have a dedicated bank account. It also details responsibilities once elected, such as understanding conflicts of interest, the Code of Conduct and requirements involved with a councillor’s register of interests.

The Electoral Commission has formally announced the elections, which means Council is now operating in caretaker mode.

Electoral Commissioner Pat Vidgen has also reminded people that it is compulsory to vote. “All Queensland citizens aged 18 years and over on election day are required by law to enrol and vote in the local elections,� Mr Vidgen said.

I’m a family man being a father of two, and a small business owner.

I run two companies; one being responsible for building software and digital applications, and the other a regular builder, building physical structures for people and businesses such as the new facilities for CoYo at the Big Pineapple.

From 2015-18 I worked with Grant Kimmorley, a local Coolum resident (and president of the Maroochy River Golf Club), and our team of 17 to bring office equipment, networking, communications and related services to schools and businesses across the Sunshine Coast, including both Councils. For 15 years prior to that I worked at Fuji Xerox Head Office managing a network of dealerships across Australia and the Pacific, including the one here on the Coast. I’ve worked at all levels in business, home and abroad, and my experience speaks for itself.

I’m on the board of Zero Emissions Noosa, and enjoy a successful professional and volunteer career that covers a broad range of activities and community services. I'm the only person that has a wide range of experience in community and business across multiple sectors, particularly building (given the importance of planning), and understands current and future technology as it relates to modern planning and infrastructure.

I have a Diploma of Building and Construction, a Bachelors of Technology, 10

a Masters of International Studies (majoring in Politics and Economics), and a Commercial Pilot’s Licence. I’m a straight and honest operator, and if you ask me a question, you’ll get a timely, accurate and honest answer, because I treat everyone like I expect to be treated, and that is with respect, and not contempt. Sadly, that is where our current politicians fall down, caring little for us lowly regular folk, and instead focusing their attention on projects that have big dollar signs attached to them, and big opportunities for their mates.

The current spend in Capital Works has drained the budget for the everyman by putting all the money towards the headline projects, some of which have business cases that wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny, if ever we could see them! Most of them have been locked up in one of the 208 secret meetings our Council held last term. We deserve our fair share of the budget, and full transparency on where and how it is spent, and the only way that will happen is by cleaning out the pro-development lobby within the Council itself, and voting in people that will represent the resident’s best interests, as they are elected to do.

To connect the West to the East over the motorway I believe we need a pedestrian overpass or flyover from the bottom of St Andrews College, across the motorway to connect to Peregian Breeze, ultimately connecting at ground level to DLW and on to Peregian Beach and Coolum SHS, with ramps both ends for bicycles, mobility scooters, and wheelchairs. Estimated cost is $3-4m, and would need State backing.

3) If elected, during your term will you build the Street Skate element (stage 2) of the Peregian Springs Youth Play Space which is the next to the Basketball court at the Recreation Fields (The Avenue Peregian Springs).

Yes, I will ensure the multi-sport Stage 2 receives the capital works budget necessary.

4) What will you do about increased traffic in Peregian Springs?

I would consult with traffic engineers and town planners to take real world analysis and model solutions that batter address traffic flow and driver intention. The motorway and roundabout however are State controlled and require a good working relationship with TMR North to improve access out of Peregian. Council has a limited responsibility besides requiring conditioned inputs to TMR from developers to fund the necessary upgrades.

5) Will you ensure the Golf Course at Peregian Springs remains zoned Sport and Recreation and intact as a Golf Course?

The golf course must remain as so. If Peregian Springs GC is allowed to cede property and have it rezoned from sport and recreation to residential, then Clive wins (as the old Hyatt will immediately follow), and we lose.

6) How will you stay in touch with your constituents, given many may not be able to easily travel to Council Chambers in Nambour/Maroochydore?

I will host a Pop-up shop or similar event in each of the main population centres on a weekly basis, where residents are free to meet, ask questions, and obtain information from their Councillor 7) Are there any events people can meet with you in the coming weeks?

The Coolum Civic event hosted by SCD will be the big one but I’ll be at every other forum too. Unfortunately I have to remain working throughout the campaign to keep my businesses moving along; I don’t have the luxury of annual leave entitlements.

My skill set includes – • Bachelor of Social Work and 10 year’s experience in community and youth work in South East Queensland and the UK. • 20 years business experience owning and operating arts company Red Chair. Based in Coolum Beach, Red Chair is recognised as one of the most successful, independent performing arts companies in Queensland.

• Strong working knowledge of government process including experience across numerous council environments.

I am prepared and excited about the opportunity to represent Division 9.

I have always worked in demanding jobs that require long hours and after-hour commitments. My family and I have built our home life around this model of work and have navigated creative ways to ensure we are happy and supported.

2) What will you do to support safer and better connectivity for families who would like to walk or bike between Peregian Breeze and Peregian Beach?

Pedestrian and cycle connectivity between Peregian Breeze and Peregian Beach makes a lot of sense in terms of healthy lifestyle choices, safety for residents and the opportunity to reduce traffic congestion in our Division.

Given that constructing a bike path between Peregian Beach and Peregian Springs via Peregian Breeze has broad based support from residents, I would welcome the opportunity to work with residents, Peregian Family & Friends and other community groups, our counterparts at Noosa Council and Dan Purdie MP to determine the best option for the path and a strategy to fund this.

I’m aware that the next review of the South East Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan will occur later in 2020, and ideally we would work towards this as a deadline for consolidation of a plan. …………………………………continued page 16

Yes. Provided this element continues to be supported by the community, the Street Skate should be built as planned. The intention is to complete this stage during 2020.

I would also like to work with the community to identify the best way to resource the Youth Play Space to ensure it is well supported and supervised.

4) What will you do about increased traffic in Peregian Springs?

Pedestrian and bike connectivity (as discussed above) and extended and more frequent public transport services would be my first priority to tackle increased traffic. Further consultation with the community is needed to identify immediate and long-term solutions to increasing traffic and I would be guided by the community as to how Council can support this.

5) Will you ensure the Golf Course at Peregian Springs remains zoned Sport and Recreation and intact as a Golf Course?

Absolutely. Many residents bought into Peregian Springs for the golf course. It is also a growing tourist destination that presents complementary opportunities for the local retail and holiday accommodation sector. The Golf Course is an important Sport and Recreation Zone and given the limited availability of community facilities in the area it is essential that it is retained as such.

The Golf Course is developer owned and, given recent developer changes, as your Councillor I would expect to play an important role in advocating for the 16

community - to ensure the developer respects the community and Council’s expectations for this facility.

6) How will you stay in touch with your constituents, given many may not be able to easily travel to Council Chambers in Nambour/Maroochydore?

My role is to represent the voices of our community and having a regular presence in the community is key to this. I will be committed to ongoing engagement and deeper dialogue with local community groups as well as creating opportunities for residents who may not be affiliated with groups to meet with me on a regular basis.

I also support proposals that will lead to more transparent local governance including the live streaming of Council meetings.

I believe that the best decisions and choices for any community are those made by the community – a community that is informed, active and well represented. Council is there to represent the community and I intend to be present and available, part of the fabric of the community and responding to issues before or as they arise, so that they don’t become significant problems or a cause for conflict and disappointment in Council.

7) Are there any events people can meet with you in the coming weeks?

I am out and about in the community most days and welcome the opportunity to meet with residents. If I haven’t already visited you or your community group please get in contact.

As part of Budget discussions, I will be advocating for a divisional works program. One of my policy platforms will be to have a roll out capital works program which will include dedicated bike lanes plus more (and safer) footpaths.

To demonstrate, two of my achievements as a previous councillor have been the Coolum Skate Bowl (lighting and shade cover), which included many discussions with the different stakeholders (including many of the youth) to establish the best design and construction methods.

Secondly the Coolum fitness trail.

I will always be supporting facilities that encourage a more active and healthier lifestyle, for all.

4) What will you do about increased traffic in Peregian Springs?

As your Councillor, I would propose a Peregian Springs traffic study.

This would identify where problems exist, such as speeding, congestion, rat running, etc.

From there a Peregian Springs traffic management plan could be adopted and implemented.

Issues such as traffic management unfortunately do take some investigation and planning to achieve the necessary funding.

As the elected representative for Division 9, part of my task would be to lobby the other Councillors to gain their support for any Council meeting motions that I may put forward to protect the Golf Course and the flooding mitigation that it serves.

6) How will you stay in touch with your constituents, given many may not be able to easily travel to Council Chambers in Nambour/Maroochydore?

During my time as Councillor, I had an open office at the Coolum Library on Thursday mornings for residents to visit and raise issues. Also, I was very active in attending community meetings and gatherings.

I intend to make myself very contactable, available and approachable.

This position saw me manage 40-50 staff (six units/offices), budgets and resources efficiently and effectively responding to the needs of our community over a 3000sq km district (including Noosa).

I gained a great appreciation of the Sunshine Coast and the diversities it offers both with geographic and demographic challenges.

I was previously attached to the Homicide Investigation Unit and Ethical Standards Command (2003-11). These were high pressure units again engaging with members of the community at times in very difficult circumstances.

I am a representative of the people, engaging with youth, families, older residents and small business owners whilst managing a large workforce delivering on safer communities across the Sunshine Coast bringing positive outcomes.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Leadership & Management and was recently judged number 22 of the 100 most influential people on the coast.

My working history and life experiences prepared me with leadership skills and 26

2) What will you do to support safer and better connectivity for families who would like to walk or bike between Peregian Breeze and Peregian Beach?

I have listened to residents on this subject specifically when door knocking, and the lack of bicycle paths for students particularly to meet up with Coolum bike paths.

The bike path ends at Emu Mountain Rd and needs to develop further to meet up with the bike path near Coolum High School and/or north to Peregian.

I received advice that the council had funding to complete a design for the pathway from Emu Mountain Rd (Breeze end) to the David Low Way roundabout.

I am also aware of the trail which runs through the national park and is utilised by residents and children which may provide a better outcome as well for beach access to Peregian Beach however my inquiries reveal that Qld Parks & Wildlife Service may not be very supportive of this.

This trail could be upgraded and maintained to be more user friendly and safer as well as providing a fire break and access. This is something I would follow up with council and state government officers. …….…...…..continued page 28

From my own research I understand that council has funding allowed for this project as an urban plaza style skate space to occur so it would be a priority to me to get it done.

This facility is what the younger people in the Springs need and there are obvious benefits to have our young people occupied and enjoying outdoors activity 4) What will you do about increased traffic in Peregian Springs?

From speaking with residents one of the ongoing issues is the school zone drop off/pick up area and the follow on affects to other street traffic. I am aware that previous enforcement activity has been done by the QPS and council, and is a concern for the headmaster.

Other traffic issues generate at peak hour times with the main roundabouts as well. This may be time to have the roundabout reviewed for other options, ie slip roads prior to and away from the roundabout location. This has also been suggested at the main Coolum roundabout.

Continued education of our community would assist, thinking about the times they use their cars, direction of travel may also assist.

The facility should remain as the golf course. That is what it is and was designed and zoned for. That is what I support.

6) How will you stay in touch with your constituents, given many may not be able to easily travel to Council Chambers in Nambour/Maroochydore?

I believe there are various locations in Division 9 where the councillor can set up on designated times and days for ongoing community consultation and access with no cost to ratepayers.

I understand that the Peregian Shopping Centre is and has been used as a ‘listening post’ and eventually if we can be successful with the community house this would provide an ideal facility and further justification for it in the future.

Once the live streaming comes in would be another way to get residents to connect and have some more informed information as well.

7) Are there any events people can meet with you in the coming weeks?

I intend to have some listening posts at shopping centres where permitted throughout the division.

I have been attending various community association/groups meetings which are ongoing. On Saturday March 7 I will be at Bli Bli Shopping Centre – 9-11am.

Studying a Bachelor of Business (Marketing & Management) while working with businesses on the Sunshine Coast, enabled me to put theory into practice. During these roles I undertook market research, prepared various types of communications, undertook community engagement, organised community events, implemented environmental initiatives and met customer service needs.

These tasks involved being in close contact with not only purchasers but surrounding communities. What I enjoy most is doing work at the grassroots level.

That is why I chose to provide consulting services to help small and medium 30

businesses instead of chasing another full-time job with a large corporate business.

There is great satisfaction and reward in working with the community. I enjoy identifying needs in the community and working towards solutions.

2) What will you do to support safer and better connectivity for families who would like to walk or bike between Peregian Breeze and Peregian Beach?

Looking solely at connecting Peregian Breeze to the beach could include an option of a joint initiative with Noosa Council to create a boardwalk or path through the national park. This would need to consider impacts to the environment.

Alternatively, a proposal could be put forth to the State Government and Department of Transport and Main Roads for a pedestrian path adjoining Emu Mtn Road. It has seemingly been a difficult process to get State government to implement infrastructure upgrades in Division 9 in the past.

There are existing plans to widen the Sunshine Motorway and upgrade the Murdering Creek Rd intersection. Should this eventuate, it could present an opportunity to create a pedestrian overpass at the northern section of Peregian Springs through to Peregian Beach. ………………………...continued page 32

The northern location may not be the best solution for connectivity of communities, as the southern roundabout closer to Peregian Breeze is where traffic congestion mainly occurs and would provide better connectivity to the beach, schools and shops.

3) If elected, during your term will you build the Street Skate element (stage 2) of the Peregian Springs Youth Play Space which is the next to the Basketball court at the Recreation Fields.

The feedback report for consultation on the Multi-Purpose active play space is not available online. In chatting with residents, the majority of those were receptive to completing stage two and providing further skate and scooter opportunities at the play space.

Understanding the feedback from the community on the proposed plan for Stage 2 would be required first.

In discussions with residents, feedback has been mixed on the pros and cons of shade trees within the skate space as opposed to shade cloth.

Fine-tuning details such as these should occur prior to construction.

4) What will you do about increased traffic in Peregian Springs?

Despite the recently opened southern access point to the motorway, Peregian Springs residents are still experiencing heavy congestion on internal roads during peak periods.

A traffic study is required to identify the congested areas, produce a plan to alleviate these issues and implement it.

Much of this congestion is attributed to 32

the access and parking requirements for the schools, and access to feeder exits to the Sunshine Motorway.

Increased public transport options could also alleviate congestion. More frequent bus services and express services would assist. It would be beneficial if council invested in electric buses that could use the excess energy produced by the Solar Farm.

5) Will you ensure the Golf Course at Peregian Springs remains zoned Sport and Recreation and intact as a Golf Course?

Yes. Any encroachment of development onto the golf course would be outside of the town plan zoning.

Not only are residents who live alongside the golf course opposed to rezoning of the golf course for development, but so are many other residents and golf course enthusiasts.

I would not support any development application that encroached onto land zoned as Sport and Recreation at the Springs and I would not support re-zoning of this land in future town planning revisions.

Development approvals on land zoned for sport and recreation would set a precedent that could ultimately compromise the existence of the entire golf course.

Further development also takes away the amenity that was expected by owners who purchased homes adjoining the course.

6) How will you stay in touch with your constituents, given many may not be able to easily travel to Council Chambers in Nambour/Maroochydore?

I believe it is very important for councillors to be accessible and among constituents rather than forced to make decisions from a distant desk. ………………..……………..continued page 34

Division 9 is a large geographic area that consists of three densely urbanised communities.

These communities provide essential services to the surrounding rural communities.

I would spend time in each of these urban centres, whether it be an office space, or at a library, cafe or shopping centre.

I would also provide updates via newspaper and magazine publications, newsletters, e-mails, and social media.

I would like to encourage a culture where the community is consulted, informed and engaged.

Where residents are aware of council’s projects and the potential benefits and impacts associated with them.

I am continuing to door knock residents in Division 9.

Peregian Springs residents are always welcome to chat to me if they see me out and about at a roadside, doorknocking or even at the shopping centre, gym or school.

I am also happy to meet with groups and community associations.

Local Council Elections March 28 more than Roads, Rates, Rubbish, Recycling and Recreation...

By Rebecca Crockett Editor - Peregian Springs News With the lines of responsibility for issues and projects between Local, State and Federal government being increasingly difficult to discern, every election counts and the responsibility to vote is an important one.

It’s easy not to vote (but you risk a fine) and also easy to turn up and do a donkey vote because you think politics is just irrelevant and politicians just do what they want.

But that’s a pretty blunt instrument to teach them to listen – it’s like being given a key to another place that could help you move out of a situation that’s a bit dark, a bit cramped or that you’ve outgrown.

It won’t be a key to paradise but potentially to somewhere new that’s a bit better.

If you think I’m a bit idealistic, why not take some time to think about what makes you feel somethingangry, sad, curious, disappointed, hopeful, optimistic and see how particular candidates could help with that or you could trust to help.

We have a great range of serviceoriented people to choose from in this Division so please take the time to have a think and then vote.

A number of residents came to hear the Division 9 Candidates speak at a forum on Feb 28 at Peregian Golf Course – PFAF recorded the meeting with Facebook live.

Some of the issues discussed at the forum were around transparency of Council dealings and meetings, ease (and otherwise) of communications with Council, whether candidates were familiar with the Ridges Multi-Layered Body Corporate scheme and how that affects the ability to represent residents and also how Council will assist in the local area when the Developer leaves.

Find gold with great sleep SLEEP was something I took for granted until I had two children.

Now a full night sleep is like finding Gold in Gympie.

Did you know that it’s recommended we sleep 8-10 hours a night?

For teenagers, it is recommended they sleep at least 9 hours.

This term I have noticed there are a staggering amount of students having less than 6 hours sleep a night.

Many are spending too much time on social media, playing video games or watching steaming apps like Netflix.

Sleeping for adolescence is vital and should be strongly encouraged as it greatly assists their physical and emotional development and wellbeing.

Why is it so important to sleep?

Your body releases a number of hormones during sleep that contribute to your growth and development.

Without enough sleep your ability to concentrate, handle stress and maintain a good mood is greatly affected.

Studies are showing that a lack of sleep is also a strong contributor to emotional and mental health problems like depression.

If you or your adolescent are sleeping less than 7 hours a night, I highly encourage you to reflect on your habits and make some lifestyle changes.

It is important that we prioritise our 36

sleep!

I was a night owl once but had to change my habits and go to bed early to make up for my kids interrupting my sleep.

If I can do it, you can too!

We can adapt and learn to survive without sleep, however a lack of it will inhibit our potential and ability to achieve.

Some tips to improving sleep include: •Turning off technology (phone, T.V…) at least 30 min before bed.

•Maintain a healthy eating habits.

•Be careful not to drink caffeine late in the afternoon or evening.

•Participate in exercise even if it is just going for a walk.

•Manage your stress levels and develop ways to wind down and calm your mind.
