High-rise interfaces

As a complex, the renovation is not only on the first floor where the public is most in contact with but also on how to apply the design concepts and ideas on the upper floors as well. Therefore, I have made different designs for different heights, plus considering the specific functional distribution.

Office interface | Sequential journey

Diagrams 1 to 3 show the journey for workers at the ground level. With the balustrades from the old building, which celebrate the entrance for office blocks. The cafe shop on the journey, which easy for them to grab a drink on their way to work.

Once they get up to the office level, they would have different access to different blocks. Also, the communal space is arranged to let people from different directions gather togther.

Year 1, Sem 1 Studio 34: Forms of Enchantment:

The project is inspired by art works, literature and current social issues.

The process of submitting the final product is divided into three stages: 1) the first stage uses models, collages and concept drawings to refine and optimize the main idea and project concept; 2) the second stage derives the plan, section and project-related design prototypes; 3) the final product is submitted and presented at the end of the semester.

Issue: Tale:

Urban form and ecology have suffered the impact of modern civilization and technology, and the rapid development has smoothed out the characteristics and personality of cities. The increasingly uniform urban landscape and cultural loss have invariably turned the rich variety of life into a thin uniformity.

"Love in the Time of Cholera" is an excerpt in which the hero and heroine hide their letters of contact with each other in the corners of the city, such as under the fountain, in the promenade bazaar, etc. The text describes the city in detail, and it is easy to see that the special and unique environment forms the memories of the city. And then, the hero and heroine are separated by thousands of miles, but they get in touch through a telegraph station in the middle of thousands of mountains and rivers, and it is here that the city develops, and the transmission of news is also the transmission of change. It was my first idea to bring back the lost characteristics of the city through these moving memories of the city.

Through model to visualize the concept: Cabinet of Curiosities

The model is divided into two parts, connected by a bolt that rotates 180 degrees. One side is taken from the façade of a common high-rise building to show the impact of such concepts as the "generic city" of urbanism. The other side is composed of four transparent acrylic panels in layers. Each piece is laser cut to create a symbol or image that represents an element of the city, and through the constant combination and separation of the two compared to the real and the imaginary, it expresses a record of urban change, while inspiring what is lost in the process: allowing us to think about the path of everything that happens.
