Dear Friends,
In 1988, my dad and I set out to transform the abandoned Dr. Pepper Syrup Plant with a simple hope: to help breathe new life into our city's urban core. What began as a reclamation effort has become a national model for connected, creative urban revitalization.
Today, the district's carefully curated mix of tenants includes design studios, award–winning chefs and restaurants, a national media company, and celebrated names such as Billy Reid and Jeni's Ice Creams. We also have local makers, wellness experts, and neighborhood favorites like The Son of a Butcher, Farmstand, Yellowhammer Creative, and the beautiful shops of Laura Vogtle, Design Supply and Odette.
Beyond the storefronts, inside our historic brick walls, you will find dozens more businesses in technology, science, law, leadership, and beyond. Each adds its own creative story and heart to the district, blending Birmingham's talent with just the right amount of national reach. New tenants Schumacher and Kravet remind us of how far Pepper Place has come.
Saturday mornings remain my favorite time at Pepper Place. The Farmers Market fills the air with fresh fruits and vegetables, live music, and joyful energy, spotlighting our remarkable food culture. This year's reimagined Southbound Food Festival placed an additional national spotlight on Birmingham during this 10-day event.
Pepper Place is a catalyst and a connector. The Jones Valley Trail in our backyard links neighborhoods, history, and green spaces, inspiring connections in both design and spirit. It is a place where innovation and creativity are welcomed and celebrated.

Founded by award-winning Chef James Lewis in 2008, Bettola honors the Italian farm-to-table tradition. The signature Neapolitan pizza starts with naturally fermented dough, made daily with Caputo flour flown directly from Italy. Each hand-tossed pizza is wood-fired in an authentic brick oven from Naples. The menu features a variety of house-made pastas, woodfired roasts, craft cocktails and wines, all served by the gracious staff in a warm, modern setting.

This year has marked a milestone for the Pepper Place Farmers Market: 25 years of connecting Alabama farmers with Birmingham shoppers! What began as a response to the challenges faced by small family farms has grown into a beloved institution, attracting thousands of visitors each week.
The Market appears to operate seamlessly, but in fact, it can't thrive without community support. Revenue from tent feels is not sufficient to cover operating costs, making community donations critical to sustaining this tradition. Let’s not take it for granted! Give, shop and celebrate local so the Market can continue to grow for the next 25 years.
