WHAT IEMSC DOES The Institute for Entertainment, Media, Sports, and Culture (IEMSC) facilitates the education and development of a new generation of professionals who will play impactful leadership roles in entertainment, media, sports, and culture. We help create pathways for students to become ethical, business-savvy, and creatively minded executives, entrepreneurs, and attorneys.

MENTERNSHIPS Menternships allow Pepperdine students to meet with and receive career mentorship from industry executives, building relationships toward internships and jobs. A special thank you to Evan Lamberg, president North America at Universal Music Publishing Group, and Christa Zofcin-Workman (’97, MBA ’00, JD ’01), COO at River Road Entertainment for hosting in 2019!

I absolutely loved the “menternship” session! These meetings enrich students’ experiences in their programs.

The face-to-face conversation was invaluable and the on-site location helped paint the picture of the mentors’ day-to-day workplace. I also liked the group setting, and the chance to hear other students’ questions.

A STUDENT SUCCESS STORY Cayla Moore, now a business administration alumna from Seaver College, won the 2018 and 2019 women’s National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) collegiate national titles for Pepperdine’s surf team, under head coach and IEMSC executive board member Takuji Masuda (’93, MFA ’17). Moore received a scholarship thanks to Masuda’s endowment, and with his mentorship, she got an internship and eventually a job at the World Surf League as a business coordinator for branded content.

Takuji was a great mentor for me. He helped open my mind to the opportunities available in both the surfing and the professional world. He also helped me curate my resume and gave me great interview tips. With his help, I learned what the company was looking for and got my dream internship!
