The past and present, bound by nature's art, are but two pulses of a single heart
A word from the conductor:
Tonight’s concert is inspired by a love of history. The more I learn about the past, the more intrigued I am by the immeasurable chasm between the now and then. It is impossible to know, for certain, just exactly what life was like one hundred, two hundred, and a thousand years ago; and yet, our engagement with art and literature gives us a sense, and our imagination fills in the gaps. We can also see the threads of inspiration that never broke; those iconic themes that keep inspiring great art such as love, death, hope, and pain. Artists have always picked up their brushes, lutes, and quills and tried to breathe truth into the deepest and most profound emotions of the human experience, and modern artists continue to develop this most honorable language of the heart. The aim of tonight’s concert is simply to pull the past and present close together through music, to feel the similarities and differences acutely, and for a moment, bask in the wonder of it all.
