Curriculum Summary for Parents

Term 3 • 2025/26

This information represents a summary of plans for the term. Please understand that all plans are flexible; there is always the possibility that fewer (or more) topics will be covered than those stated.

• Narrative writing:

Following the White Rose curriculum, the children will focus on the following units this term:

- Money (including looking at different denomination and currencies. Adding and subtracting different amounts and applying money to real life scenarios).

- Time (reading digital and analogue clocks, comparing duration of events and reading the time to the nearest minute)

- Shape (recapping 2D and 3D shapes, identifying more complex shapes)

- Position and direction (knowing which direction something must travel, using key terms such as ‘axis’)

- Statistics (interpreting data, understanding how to present data in different ways)

Through these topics, children will continue to develop a strong foundation in number sense and problem-solving. We will also be looking to consolidate times table fluency as well.

Key curriculum knowledge covered:

- The Water Cycle, including terminoloy such as, ‘evaporation’, ‘precipitation’ and ‘condensation’

- States of matter, including understanding the term, ‘particles’

- Animals and humans, describing the simple functions of the digestive system and identifying the different teeth we have

Key skills:

- Learning how to collect data and information from experiments

- How to present this information using tables, drawings and charts

- Discussing what was successful in a science experiment and discussing the reliability of the evidence gathered in different experiments.

Developing key historical skills, including comparing how places and people have changed over time by looking at different periods in history and suggesting why people have a different perspective on historical events. Looking at key geography skillls, including the use of compasses and being able to identify different lines of latitude and longitude on maps and globes, as well as asking and answering questions about different places of interest.

Looking at deeper, philosophical questions, including, ‘What is the meaning of Life?’ and ‘What is right or wrong?’. Understanding the importance of showing respect for people who follow different religions and knowing that many religions have shared values.

In Music we are exploring further instrument options and learning about the instruments of the orchestra. Pupils will have a chance to explore an instrument ‘petting zoo’ and will be assessed for their instrument suitability. These recommendations will be sent home to parents to inform them of any hidden talents and natural abilities. We will finish off the year putting to practice our music literacy skills by using beginning music technology to compose and record our own music.

Skill consolidation and tactical awareness:

- Improved consistency in fitness and skill execution

- Greater focus on spatial awareness and simple tactics in games

- Enhanced teamwork and problem solving in group challenges

- Tennis: more reliable rallies and controlled stroke play

In Games, the children will be introduced to the concepts of game play in netball and in rugby. In netball, the children will play 7 a side matches and will be able to play in a variety of positions around the court. They will continue to develop their core skills of passing, movement, attack and defense. In rugby, the children will be developing their passing, running, positional and spatial awareness and their tackling skills in a controlled game environment with a focus on safety and correct tackle technique.

Year 4 will focus on the more complex water skills; Learn how to do competitive diving, Turns and finishing, endurance swim (25mins), fun activity- Water polo and Time trials during week 9 and 10.

In PSHE, the children will continue to follow the Jigsaw program of study. The focus of the Jigsaw units this term are:
